>Stop and appreciate for awhile.

>You take a moment to groove to the Eagle's tunes. The harmonica isn't among your favourite instruments, nor is it especially popular in Yamato, being essentially an Eagleland instrument, but the Eagle plays it well. She glances over at you in mid-note, then extends one finger up in a sort of 'Just a sec' gesture. You can't put a name to her tune, though it does sound vaguely familiar, but, after about another 15 or twenty seconds, she trails off and lowers her instrument.
>"Sorry 'bout that. I always finish a verse, unless it's an emergency." Tucking her harmonica inside her shirt, she hops to her feet, then gives you a bow. "Redundant though it may be, welcome to the temple of the Metal Tiger."

>"It's an unusual thing to hear around here, so one doesn't have many opportunities."

>The Eagle gives you a nod. "True that." She plops back down on the wooden porch of the temple. Her speech is colored by a touch of a strange accent you can't quite put a finger on, and has an odd flow to it. If anything, she sounds a little like Rin. "Most folks 'round here prefer hearing me play the flute, 'r tin whistle, but haven't heard too many complaints 'bout my harp yet."
>She glances back at the shed you came out of, then back in our direction. "Look, if this's 'bout that little exchange you saw between me and the kitty, 's nothing personal. Just a friendly wager, didn't mean no offense to you."

>The Eagle rubs the back of her head. "Ah, yeah. Must've slipped through. Accent tends ta show whenever I break out the harp." She takes a moment before continuing. "Was born... Well, I suppose 'ascended' is the better word, down south. Hanakaze Island."
>The indicated island is one of the islands south of mainland Yamato, one of the larger ones down there. Rin herself was born on one of the smaller islands, one of the ones with an odd name, Anthemossa.
>"As I recall," the Eagle continues, "That little cat of yours, Rin, hails from down there, as well, don't she?"

>"It's a regional thing. Lotta folks on those islands have that accent, some stronger than others. Of course, I imagine your pet's lingo's a bit more unique than even mine, handled by Oni for as long as she was." She pulls one leg up to rest her elbow upon her knee. "Lynx and I had a running wager, actually, which student in old Mayo was gonna work up the stones to try and 'come to the poor girls rescue.' She was figuring on Marissa, which let's be fair, seemed safe money, it more ways'n one." She offers you a friendly-seeming smile. "But I knew it'd be you."

>September the 17th, not long after the start of your third semester in Mayoiga. The Manari would have long graduated before that happened.

>"I'm pleased you have that kind of faith in me."

>She chuckles in reply. "'Faith' implies believing in something unknown, uncertain. Faith implies at least some level of doubt, be it conscious're otherwise. I never doubt. Ain't in me. I knew was only a matter of time before someone stepped up to bat and knocked Konngara down a peg or two, and among the students at Mayo, I knew you'd be first in line. Though I admit, Marissa was a real close second."

>The Eagle laughs a pleasant laugh, though it has aspects of a cackle about it. "You've a way with words, y'know." She rests her chin upon her hand. "The other three were also pretty surprised you didn't turn her loose soon's you got the chance. 'course, they don't know Oni law well as we do. Now, I admit, I had wondered if you'd go looking for someone else to take care of her, least till her ten years were up. You ain't the 'owner' type, to my thinkin'. But..." She grins at you. "Rin's happy wi'cha, ain't she?"

>The Eagle smiles again. Somehow a more geniune expression this time. "Yeah. Most things in life'r better, when ya got someone t'share em with." She fiddles with the feathers on her armband for a moment. She seems about to say something else, but then thinks twice.

>Who generally cooks between us and Rin?

>Generally speaking, for breakfast, it depends on which one of you gets up first. Today, for instance, Rin had breakfast ready for you. When you're up before her, you prepare breakfast for your both. And that all depends, of course, on if Minoriko has done the cooking for the both of you, which she's been known to do. When you first acquired Rin, she wanted to do all the cooking for you. At first, this was out of a sense of obligation, given her role as your slave. Then, after you made it clear that what you did, you did for her sake, not yours, she wanted to do the cooking for you out of gratitude. But you'd much rather divvy up the duties between you both, rather than let the girl do all the work.
>Supper, on the other hand, is more a communal affair among the residents of Moonside. Minoriko loves to cook, and the rest of the girls, yourself included, love her cooking. Every once in a while, Rin or Reisen or youself will cook for the group, but Minoriko does the lion's share. Patchy's not the cooking kind, Letty's usually too busy with school or her extracirrucular activities, and Nitori's cooking doesn't always.... appeal to the palate of non-Kappa.

>"That is a lovely armband, where did you get it?"

>She grins, then tousles the band on her wrist as she holds it up. "Made em meself. Some of the feathers're mine, as I'm sure you can tell, but the rest? Some were gifts, but more're payments." She glances back at the shack before continuing. "Sure Lily told ya, but, I do a lot of business, make a lotta trades. And whenever I deal with folks with wings, I always ask at least one feather in exchange. Every feather y'see here's a story. Sometimes, that's all I ask, a feather, when it's someone with pretty, or unique, wings. Or sometimes, a few locks of hair, from someone with pretty or unique hair. Someone not unlike yerself, in fact." she adds as an afterthought, her eyes falling upon your gradient tresses.

>Have a closer look at the armband, since she's holding it up.

>The band around her wrist appears to be made of a black leather, whereas the one around her arm is white. Each one bears three feathers that clearly came from the Eagle's own wings, and each is wrapped in long strands of hair, ranging in color from pink all the way through the spectrum, including a black hair on the white band, and a white hair on the black band. Apart from her own, no two of the feathers on each band are alike. One is blue with a black tip, one is pure white, one is green with a pink tip, one solid pink, and so on and so on. Some appear to be 'mundane', as far as winged humanoid feathers go, but some are truly exotic. Despite yourself, you find yourself wondering about the stories behind each of them. A couple, you recognize belong to students at school. One of the black feathers COULD belong to nurse Utsuho, but you're not certain on that. The pure white one, however, you're almost positive belongs to Lily.
>Actually, you correct yourself. There are two feathers, one on each band, that are identical to each other. Both are green and pink.

>"I suppose I shall have to be especially careful not to take any bets."

>The Eagle chuckles again. "I'd think a couple strands of hair's quite a fair trade for services rendered, 'specially depending on the service in question. Now, I don't know what Lily or her catfriend have told ya, but, I consider myself a proper businesswoman. I find things for people, be it items, goods, information, favors, you name it. And I never cheat nobody, despite what folks might tell ya. And you, Byakuren- May I call ya Byakuren?"

>She nods. "Byakuren, then. You, my friend, have some pretty potent currency there." She accentuates her point by pointing at your hair with her toe, all of which, you now note, have toenails sharpened to a pretty decent point. "Money's all well and good, but I like coming to... alternative methods of recompense just as well, or better."

>"Oh, I'm more than just a simple Seeker, Byakuren." she grins in reply. "If, say, you wanted to know what, if anything, old Konngara's plotting to get her property back from ya, well, I can find that out for ya." Her grin wavers a little. "Not that I'm especially fond'a dealing with Oni, but, I'll still do it, when the need rises."
>"And as for how I do what I does, well..." she leans backwards, reaching inside her shirt (which affords you a rather clear view of what it conceals, incidentally. Which isn't all that much, in this case, but still.) and produces a different instrument, a small whistle,  and twirls it around her fingers. "That depends on what someone asks me t'find, now, don't it?" she finishes, chuckling softly.

Well this offer did come quite conveniently.
Maybe we can consider asking her to help with finding Chen's locket?

>You restrain a disapproving expression. Best not to take everything this woman says at completely face value.
>The Eagle gives you a grin at your line of inquiry. "Why so curious? Is... Ah, that's right, you've never actually dealt with me personally, have ya. Or any of us. Come t'think of it, I'm willing to bet you hadn't heard much about any of us Manari since we left Mayo, have ya? 'least beyond vague rumors and hearsay." She points at the shack with her flute. "Bet they warned ya about me, too, didn't they."

>The Eagle chuckles a friendly chuckle. "It's alright. I know the rep I have. I suppose it's not entirely unfair- I mean, I'm here, after all. But ya listen t'some folks, and they'd have ya believe I was selling babies, or something. N'I admit, I ain't exactly a Celestial here, but I ain't near as bad as folks'd tell ya. I's wondering how long it'd take her mama to look me up, or have someone do it for 'er. Ol' Ran's pretty much had the west side of town torn apart, by this point."
