That Zun plagiarism claim is absolutely ridiculous. The only thing similar is the tail, the leaf, and the brown hair. In the case of the first two, that's what a tanuki is generally depicted to have. It's like saying that Chen was a ripoff of Coku because she has cat ears and twin tails. Also tanukis are brown, so brown hair is a given, and the hair style must be purely coincidental.

Seiga deceives her family (by faking her own death) in order to train to become a hermit; and while she does become one, she reached her goal on malicious terms, and Heaven doesn't accept her. Miko goes through her life pursuing immortality because she doesn't like that humans are fated to die. So, Seiga finds her and she takes up taoism, in which one of the fundamentals is that you get rid of the fear of death and desire for life, or rather, not going towards the goal of immortality. She tries to cheat and ruins her body while achieving superhuman powers.  Futo, who belongs to a family of powerful shintoists, practiced taoism in secret and later met up with Miko. The three of them (well, Seiga only suggested the plan, she already was a hermit) plot to have Japan ruled by buddhism to keep Japan passive so that they alone can achieve immortality, and Futo manipulates a powerful political faction to become followers of buddhism. So now a religious war starts, the emperor dies of an illness and suddenly woahshit it's the shintoists' faults. Buddhism rules the country and tons of people die, all because these three want to become something of gods. Miko, having ruined her body, doesn't think she can wait long enough to become immortal, so she cheats again by becoming a shikaisen. But first, because she's a pussy, she tells Futo to die with her. Futo goes "oh ok I can be immortal too" and they get ready to fall asleep. Miko fakes it so she can watch Futo to make sure that she won't actually die if she falls asleep, awesome friend, and then she goes ahead. Then the buddhists build a fucking temple on her grave because they're pretty sure she was a manipulative bitch. Miko goes "oh well I guess I can just resurrect when I can take advantage of my awesome skills to lead the people", but whoops, after a while people stopped believing she existed and her grave winds up in Gensokyo, whereupon Byakuren builds another fucking temple. So now Miko's pissed and resurrects so she can get rid of everything (i.e. youkai) that keeps her from being supreme leader of all humans.

So yeah the religious factions in Gensokyo are getting interesting. Two shinto, one buddhist, and now one taoist. I would think Miko's faction isn't particularly threatening, since several heroines suggest Futo wasn't hard to beat. Meanwhile, Byakuren's faction just keeps getting bigger, she got two new members without even appearing in this game. Having Miko get them all riled up could get very messy!

Speaking of Byakuren, I'm sure Kanakers is pretty annoyed that right after she arrives in Gensokyo to gather the faith of the youkai, Byakuren shows up and does a better job of it (and it was her own fault Byakuren was unsealed lol). Has Kanako commented on the situation in any of Sanae's endings?

She served Miko together with Futo, but she was denied resurrection as a human due to her previous connections with Futo. It would be more convenient for Futo to deal with her as a spirit.
The Soga and the Mononobe had fought long and hard over Buddhism, but Futo and Tojiko's relationship is still in good terms, and took on a give-and-take nature.
Now, they both hate Buddhism.

IIRC, in one of Sanae's good endings,

Wow, but I wish I could read the endings to this game.  Most of the time you can infer the endings for the most part (just assume that it's a happy ending) but this time I really wonder what the heck happened at the end of all this.  Even the extra story prologue doesn't really indicate what the final resolution was, although it does confirm that
