If pc98 counts (somehow) definitely Mugetsu/Gengetsu. Sooo much fun IMO.
Other than that I found Kanakos, Mamizous, Alice Margatroids (PCB) and The Prismriver Sisters nonspells to be quite entertaining.

I'll also group the Three Mischievous Fairies together for this. Their difficulty helps here, as it's just high enough to make them a fun challenge as opposed to "just another thing I have to get through".

No one talks about Rumia.
I personally like Rumia's nonspells for their variety. Emphasis on variety.

My favourite noncards:
-Kagerou's for looking cool and being fun attacks based on quick reading.
-Murasa's are kind of repetitive, but beautiful.
-Ichirin's surprise lasers and bullet rows that require quick movements are pretty fun
-EoSD Cirno's have some charm to me.
-Byakuren's for beauty and variety.

Non spells, huh?

Koishi and Nue for fun mixed with difficulty.
Byakuren and Satori for patterns.
Sekibanki for overall "what" factor.
Kyouko for being interesting (also frustrating) and also keeps with her theme/ability.

What's the most comfortable way to play Touhou?

I'm still not quite sure how to best phrase my question, or whether it's even compatible with the thread's premise, so allow me to elaborate a bit. When playing Touhou, how exactly do you make sure that you're as comfortable and focused as possible? Do you use a laptop or a standard PC? Any particular controller/control scheme, or is any random keyboard/gamepad good enough?Do you sit on an armchair, lie on your bed with your head resting on a pillow, or sit on the floor cross-legged like a Turk? Is the screen on the same height level as your eyes? Do you stick your nose into the screen or keep your head at a distance? And any other conceivable playing habits.

Hey, don't laugh, those are all crucial tactical issues, well worth discussing!

As for myself, the answer is unfortunately "I don"t know". I admit that self -nterest is partially the motive behind my question. I usually play on a laptop, using UHJK as directional keys, sitting on my armchair and leaning more and more towards the screen as the game progresses (I guess the leaning part is subconscious), but I can tell there's something wrong with my setup.

Laying comfortably on my bed, resting the laptop on my chest. The entire time, your little sister and one of her friends should cosplay as Koishi and Suwako as they lay by your side, providing you and your body with the comfort it needs. As well as snacks, wine and... well, stress relief. Your right hand will rest on the laptop, your fingers resting on the IJKL keys that you have remapped the directional keys to. Your left hand will do the same but for the Shift, Z,X and C buttons.

While I'm not exactly sure if these are the performance-wise best options, it is certainly not going to be more comfortable.  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)

I post this because I have no idea which set-ups would be ideal for your performance. I suppose as long as you got a comfortable chair and play on a monitor that allows you to keep track of everything important (don't play with one that is too small or large) with a keyboard which keys feel comfortable (or pads if you don't like being flat keyboards or sticks)

I decided to post here rather than make a new "Please help me!!!" thread because I'm curious about everyone's preferences, not looking for direct advice (which is of course pretty much impossible in this case). As a result, there's a new question in the thread, and if any of the answers happens to be helpful in my particular case, then good for me. Everyone wins.

Laptop in bed sitting up. I've tried playing laying down, but it doesn't work out so well for the most part.

Desktop. Rotating armchair. Forearms on armrests. Default controls. Old trusty keyboard, horizontally centered on monitor. Monitor's center a bit lower than eye level when sitting upright, but top third of the screen is at looking straight level. Don't lean forward more than usual when playing, I can focus or unfocus my eyes just fine. Breaks every half an hour (like after each full run) with physical exercise (walking and stretching).

Change the Document holder by my laptop screen and the cool chair by a poor iron one.

Still haven't been able to figure this out. I think "laptop, on table" is the way to go but the rest is a mystery. Partly this is a problem because all of my furniture is broken, so I don't really have a good chair. I think headphones are a good idea, but my nice headphones are broken. Next week I plan on buying a nice office chair and some high-end headphones, so after that it's just a matter of figuring out the correct table height and distance, what monitor to use, and maybe getting a better keyboard.
I made a PADHerder. It's probably out of date though.
