Title: [Art] This is, in fact, jq1790's Atelier Topic
Post by: Jq1790 on April 03, 2011, 12:53:25 AM
Yes yes, this is my art thread.  Don't expect frequent updates, since I need to have that "spark" usually in order to draw much of anything.  Also, pardon the roughness of my work- I'm not exactly well-practiced yet, and such.  Also, I've always had severe issues trying to draw straight lines and non-wobbly curves, etc.

Anyway, here's something to start off with, a pic of the ever-lovable half-phantom gardener of Hakugyokurou(Did I even spell that right?  It's almost as bad as the name Kamishirasawa...)

Any requests, comments, concerns, etc are, of course, welcome and wanted, so hop to it!

...if you want, that is.  don't let me force you or anything.  You always have the option to leave me to rot up here in my corner of the Atelier...

EDIT:  I DID do the thumbnailing right, right?  If it needs to be linked, please let me know.

I like the semi-transparency you gave Myon. Did you erase her arm to get that effect? :P

I look forward to more.

It started out as me trying to do that, yeah.  Part of it was that my eraser was kinda bleh though, but it worked out well, haha.

/me needs to remember to use his REAL drawing type pencils more since he does have them*

Anyway, thanks for the review!  =)  I'll put more on here...eventually.

After far too long, I'm remembering to put something up here...It's only been like 10 months, that's no big deal, right?

Anyway, was bored so I was messing around in Flash(Best drawing program I own, since I haven't d/l'd anything like Paint.net or anything), and this came out.

Only 2 weeks since my last upload?  I'll take it.

Don't know what possessed me to do this, but have some Air Man.  Only this one's a little...different.

could more than likely have refined it, but I'm still happy with it overall.

EDIT:  Added another robot character conversion due to a friend planting the suggestion.  Hopefully heshe's recognizable.

Thanks!  Coming from you with your ubercute drawing style, it's definitely a compliment.  =D

To all viewers:  Any requests for random things to turn into Flash drawings?  I'm forming a list of projects to work on to add here for no reason(Got the PSVita and a Dalek on the list so far), so feel free to suggest away!  (Also, don't feel limited to just machines.  If there's anything else you wanna see, shout it out!)

EDIT:  Dalek done.  Rather happy with her to be honest.

Got bored before going to sleep, so have a Nue.

Was trying doing a more interesting pose this time.  Did it go well, or should I work on it more?

EDIT:  Poor Nue, I forgot her wings and tails!  Now showing edited version with said body parts in place.

Oh, hey, it's a Satori.

Will probably scan eventually, but until then take this crappy phone pic.

EDIT: Decided to add another pic to this post instead of making another.  Was thinking how Reimu might look if she were more Fire Emblem-ish, came up with this idea.  Thoughts?

Welp, before it hits the half-a-year-since-I-uploaded-something mark...Have something I didn't expect to start drawing.  I'm actually quite happy with how this turned out, even though it's still not exactly perfect or anything.

So, did it turn out ok to you, the viewers?  If you think it did, anything/one else you think I should try drawing, at least if I'm not working on drawing people better?  Was considering Ridley, but other thoughts are welcome!

EDIT:  In the meantime, I was GOING to try drawing 'nother Bow-zah, but ended up drawing a Marisa instead.  No idea how that happened.

EDIT^2:  Oh right, I drew Neo Metal Sonic earlier today too.

EDIT^3:  To end today's submissions(Though technically I'm referring to yesterday now), a Yukari.  Hoping you don't need to look at the filename to tell what she's doing, ehe.

Looks like the Yukari drawing went pretty well. The proportions looks quite alright and I can tell that she's sitting. So, uh, yay!

The shaft of the umbrella should be shorter, though. As in, you should see the end of the shaft sort of near the center of the umbrella. (Because you're seeing more of the underside than the top of the umbrella.)

Ah, yay!  How about the danmaku?  Obviously it's not exactly super detailed, but does it at least resemble the spell card it's based on enough?

Anyway, yeah I can see how there's the problem with the 'brella shaft now that you mention it.  Was having trouble with it throughout trying to draw it...  If/when I work on this more I'll shorten that so it actually fits where it ought to.  Thanks for the reply!

Happy belated Cirno Day!  The pic itself was drawn on-time, but I was lazy and didn't scan it til tonight.

Just...don't mind the arms.  Also don't pay attention to the random things in the top right corner, they were just me working on random ideas and stuff before the proper picture started.

Have a Sanae.  Oh, and I guess you can have the crow tengu on a tree branch, too.  (Planning to color the second one, maybe, if I track down my colored pencils...)

What a happy little tengu! Her right arm seem to be bending a little to inwardly, though.

I really love the Sanae pic, especially what you've done with the "sea."

Oh, I like your Sanae picture, especially the fact that she is performing an action and there is a perspective to it. I also like the walls around her; their perspective and design look pretty cool, in my opinion. Perspectives are tricky-tricky, but I believe that you should keep on practicing them; you seem to have a knack for them~  :)

Yay replies!

re: Aya- You wouldn't realize it, but originally I was going to try drawing "Illusionary Dominance" or "Peerless Wind God", but the rice bullets were proving to be tedious to draw, so I figured I'd do something else, so I decided to try practicing a pose instead, as well as add some little bits of environmental detail.

re: Sanae- I'm glad the waterfall things turned out well.  Also, I have a knack for perspective...?  Huh.  I might need to explore this further.  Also, after drawing "Xanadu of Straight and Curve" up above, I decided I enjoyed drawing Spell Cards, so I'm starting to think of what ones I might have fun sketching out.

Hm, I'm nearing 1k views...Wonder if I should do something to commemorate that since it's my first art topic thing.

Just posting to thank people for the over 1,000 views, and I -have- in fact taken a stab at VoWG, or at least Mountain of Faith.  Pic will be edited into this post when I get the chance!

Also another pic or two to post that I drew today, so be sure to keep an eye out for them!  Here's to another 1k views, maybe?

EDIT:  Finally got to uploading, and finally deciding to use Imgur like most people here,  There're 3 pics, and I grouped em into an album for simplicity.

Thanks again for the views and reviews! (http://imgur.com/a/xJMFV)

Where her hair is blown and where her skirt is blown is in two different directions. Not such a good idea.

I think you'll need to learn how to draw faces, because to me the shapes of your faces look real wonky. You'll do good to learn some facial anatomy, or copy a good artist.

On another note, i swear her legs are just a mite bit long...

Oh, and you seem to have banana fingers syndrome. Are you drawing with a guideline or somesuch? Because it looks very much 2d ish to me

...ouch.  Guess that's what I get for drawing without thinking!  Thanks for the notes.  I'll try to remember them for next time!  (Can't believe I messed that much up and still liked it though.  Guess I really don't have an artist's eye some days...)

Also, not drawing with guidelines or anything, so that's probably part of my problem.  My drawing style's still a work-in-progress, as is obvious, so there's obviously a lot I've still gotta work on.

...was there anything I did particularly RIGHT, so I know?(Not intended as a loaded question, and something like "No, nothing turned out especially well" is a perfectly valid answer.  Candor's more helpful than trying to be polite.)

Oho, I don't need to be polite? I like that attitude, gahahaha.

Well in all seriousness, I don't see anything that can be considered 'good'.

Let's not talk about drawing styles. Regardless of that, you're still going to need guidelines to help with your anatomy. Your best bet is to start learning that right now, so here's a tutorial I've been waving about at peoples faces.

Yeah, that's right, this thing's getting resurrected.  For how long I can't say, but for now here it is!  Only two submissions tonight, but maybe I'll do more later today after work or something.

Was drawing with a friend recently, but had no idea what to, well, draw.

>"Draw a Newhu!"

...so this came out.  For being done entirely on memory since I hadn't memorized any of the newbies' appearances I was actually pretty close apparently.

Just tonight(8/22 early early morning) I also drew this, Norn of the Present, Verdandi, from Puzzle & Dragons.  Ran out of steam and couldn't get myself to finish the wings or anything, but here she is.

Considering at least doing the other 2 Norns eventually, maybe some other stuff.  Let's see how long this lasts!

The fact that she was recognizable makes me happy. Yes, that indeed is PaD Amaterasu!
