Hi everybody. I'm here to announce the beta release of Butterfly madess (http://web.zone.ee/madness/) :]
The game is complete. Beta means that things can still change and bugs may be fixed. This may result in not working replays of the game. Be sure to read the instructions. Sorry, it doesn't have awesome bullethell music :S
important: For many people (including me for some certain firefox/java configurations) the java applet wont load. A simple "fix" for this is to download the offline version.
I am looking for bug reports and suggestions. If you encounter a bug then please describe exactly what happened and where. Also the contents of the error should be included.
Some screenshots of the game:

I copied this message from another forum (http://shmups.system11.org/viewforum.php?f=9) :V

Looks good, but neither does it run for me, nor do I know how to get the program running from the downloadable version. The readme tells me to use the index.html, which just brings me back to the page, where it still does not run.
Care to elaborate how to get it to work?

Click on NetLogo and then start game_applet.
But after I click on Start, the game just kinda... stops. I have no control over my character and I don't know if that's because it's loading or because something's wrong.
-
Click on NetLogo and then start game_applet.
The internet page is completely black with just the instuction/credits/download links on the bottom and a NetLogo symbol at the top, the clicking of which just leads me to the NetLogo home page.
The downloadable rar only contains a NetLogoLite.jar full of zig pieces of data in several folders, none of which look like an executable. :derp:

No, I meant "start NetLogoLite and then choose to open game_applet with it".

Not even danmakufu looks at a if(...){...} else{...} and then, when the if(...) condition isn't met, shows you a popup box that tells you if(...) isn't met instead of proceeding to the else{...}.
Wow, I need to stop making convoluted analogies.
You ignored my second point.
The NetLogoLite.jar that is included in the download contains tons of data but apparently no executable file. Only text documents and other data files. There is no file that can be executed to make this thing running.
Do I need to download the engine seperately from the homepage? Because that would have been nice to know. :derp:

It is supposed to work as a java applet. Since you are seeing nothing i assume you don't have java installed o.O Go here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to install java
The game starts paused. From instructions: P - pause/play :P
-
Nope, pressing P didn't work. The furthest I can get is this:

O____O How on earth.... You are not supposed to see that. You do not need NetLogo (did you download it? o.O) to play this game. All you need is a browser that supports java. I suggest you to play it in a browser.
And about not being able to do anything (copied from instructions):
If shortcut keys don't work then click the white area in bottom right corner

Sorry for being so confusing :S

And I checked. I HAVE Java installed on my Firefox.
-
Looks like java is disabled.
Open Tools > Add-ons > tabs "Plugins" and "Extensions"
Look for anything with "java" in it and enable it.
Another thing you should try is http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Now that it finally works for me, here my pros and cons:
+ Some very good ideas for spellcards
- VERY long stages
- no clear indicator if spellcard is survival or not
- if I have to play the game with the mouse, I'd love to use the bombs with it. You should give the players autofire.

Thanks for the feedback and im glad you got it to work :)
I agree about some stages being too long (stage 3 for example). The whole game isn't as fast paced as Touhou... i will definitely change this if i'm going to make more bullet hell games. Depending on how things are going to go in near future i might change the stages so they will advance faster.
Spellcard score bonus won't decrease during survival spellcards. If it does then its a bug.
Bombing with mouse - another good suggestion to make the game more enjoyable.
Autofire - it already exists. Just read the instructions.

clicking the "download offline" link gives me a 404 error... in German.
-
oops... forgot to update the link to the downloadable version  its fixed now

I'm here to announce that beta for Butterfly madess (http://web.zone.ee/madness/) is over. Hopefully all serious bugs are gone :derp:
I added:
*a world record board where people can download the replays of the best score owners in the whole wide world. You can also submit your own replay if you have beaten the best score.
*game manual so the people can have a more in depth understanding of the game
