Schedule is here! (https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule)

Some really good stuff being speedrun for charity again this summer!  It's running all week!  Most important is the fact that they are running Pepsiman and Super Amazing Wagon Adventure :V

Jewel Master, holy shit.

My best friend and I used to play the crap out of that at his place; then I forgot the title for decades til like last year when I literally just went through every genesis game on Gamefaqs to find it.

Already know who's winning this.

Also hype for that SMRPG run to close the show.

Yeah, they usually have VODs uploaded to YT.

And yeah, Halfcoordinated is nuts like that. He also did Vanquish and Transformers Devastation one-handed.  He pretty much has to though. IIRC he's partially disabled or something, hence "Halfcoordinated".

You're right, he has a physical disability called hemiparesis. But wow, he's incredible. Speedrun.com has him 2nd for Any% Insane in Momodora and less than 2 minutes behind WR. (http://www.speedrun.com/momo4#Any) Great to see he doesn't let his disability limit him.

Eh, there isn't really anything I would want to watch happening when I can do that. Also the Kitty Kaho plushes for 1/2coordinated's Momo4 run bid incentive are cute. Whoever gets them is gonna a happy camper. (And also something about charity and stuff.)

Oh, and have fun watching games being played fast as much as you do playing them!

More like Quality Game Neo  :V

Also if there was one person on American television who I'd trust with promoting a speedrunning marathon to a national audience, it would've been Colbert. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvLwpnn1F4Y)

This really made my night, thanks for sharing this. :D

I dunno how much of this marathon I'm gonna watch. I have my birthday tomorrow and I've been meaning to finish my FJF run so I can move onto other projects. I'll check in from time to time, though.

I couldn't go to SGDQ this year because I wasn't able to get cheap transportation. As long as it stays in Minnesota or North Dakota or something I should pretty easily be able to get there though, so hopefully I can go next time.

Anyways, same as for AGDQ I updated my greasemonkey script to give the stream maximal screen space and only keep the nav bar at the top. Try it out maybe?

The Super Meat Boy run last night was a scene to behold. I remember giving up at the start of world 3 because of how the difficulty jumps and watching platforming expert Raocow die thousands of times and struggle stage after stage. This kid blew through 170 or so levels with maybe 20 deaths altogether.
Also that game is super frustrating. The worst the runner had to say was basically "aw, nuts." What are these people?!

People who practice the game lot. Literally anyone can pick it up and practice to this point, they're all regular people

With enough grinding, I was able to eventually get all the achievements for Super Meat Boy.

Would never try to learn the speedruns for it though because that requires a much higher consistency than just getting through the chapters once without death.

Unfortunately I missed the back end of the J+D run since I had to go to work.

It was amusing what I saw however.

More needs to be said of the Sonic '06 run; which wouldn't have been that far off World Record... if for some random reason when going on a set of springs in the final level the game didn't softlock, leaving Sonic eternally spinning stationary in the air between springs. This took a little while to register as a softlock and then needed a restart mission button costing a fair bit of time.

'Every time you play Sonic '06 you see something new' - The runner.

As someone who's actually played Sonic '06 I agree.

More like "that one time only Behemoth walked away from that race." Sheesh, they can save as many frames as they want but it doesn't mean much if they can't save themselves. :V Maybe next time Safety Saves should be mandatory.

Also, over 1.22 million raised as of the end of SM RPG, holy crap!
Title: Re: Summer Games Done Quick - the record for posting this thread is 0:05
Post by: Silent Harmony on July 10, 2016, 06:35:33 AM
To me part of what makes the current Super Metroid Any% races so exciting is that understanding that the race can end at any time, especially with this new route (the old route is still around for people who aren't in the 50:00 range and is safer). It's the penultimate game and arguably the biggest game of every GDQ. Also the runners can allow saves if they so choose but they agreed not to (and to also not get any safety energy tanks). If they say "no" then you can argue that they can go with "who got farther faster" as a tiebreaker.

Also official new SGDQ record was reached right before the Smithy fight, meaning we get SM64 race. It's hard to believe watching SGDQ for the first time in 2013 that we'd get to the point where we'd increase the donation total by around 5x in 3 years (it was ~$250k that year).
