What are your current targets for each of the games, score or challengewise?
I try to keep a few goals ahead of me.
VoWG lunatic NDNB timeout- I figure I'll get this eventually :V
perfect lunatic Kanako- so I can say I perfected every boss in the game.
perfect MoF lunatic S4 stage part- so I can say I perfected every stage in the game (getting the 2 of these gives me a 'technical perfect' of a lunatic)
SA or TD lunatic 1cc- as soon as they STOP ANNOYING ME
GFW B route hard 1ccs- I really hate these.
IN perfect extra stage- rings of death, I'm coming for you!
90 FPS DS- trying to clear Spoiler.
60 FPS DS- I can has 108/108?
and by a few clearly I mean way too many.

EoSD - 400+ mil in Extra.
PCB - 2 billion in anything, no vert 1cc of Lunatic.
IN - Beating ASL.
PoFV - 300 mil.
MoF - Haven't really cared much about MoF. :/
SA - 1 billion for every character in Extra.
UFO - Breaking the score counter. Getting 600 mil with anyone in Extra.
DS - More speedruns. Maybe I'll attempt to finish the game at 90 FPS?
TD - Completing a decent scorerun in Extra with Reimu.

- Score over 100mil in PoDD as Chiyuri (Or anyone really, but Chiyuri would be awesome.)
- No-focus no-bomb EoSD (In all honesty I could probably do this any time I feel like sitting down and working on it.)
- UFO 90fps 1cc (Still a bit beyond me I think.)
Otherwise nothing. There are quite a few games I'll probably never play again. PoDD seems like it'll have the longest life-span for me.

I had to abort my last PCB run at Stage 3, but I had six lives at that point. So I might clear it :V
What do you think is harder, 60FPS Hard or 90FPS Normal?

Well. Thanks, Thanuris, for asking this.
My primary target is within UFO, it being counterstopping the game.
But I also have several other little tasks in mind. For PCB, I'd like to do some silly stuff with conditions in Phantasm and maybe Easy/Normal. And possibly compete and lose a bit with Heartbeam and T.
IN, I've been slowly working towards gathering the Easy top spots on this forum. I'd also love to have 1.7b Yuyuko and Yukari scores.
Then, the list would be mainly empty, sans some little targets like 1.5b off MoF.
And when I'm done with UFO, I'll probably head for PCB. 2b within PCB would be great, but it's another one that would need a huge amount of practice.
Time will tell, I guess.

UFO - Clear Lunatic, break 1b (probably on Easy/Normal)
FW - Clear Hard/Lunatic/Extra
TD - Buy a PC that doesn't lag on S5/6 Lunatic so I can clear it without feeling like I cheated.
Series - Perfect most bosses on Lunatic. Perfect most stages on Lunatic. There's some I don't care about, like SoEW/FW stuff, but for the most part.

Basically, any song in the fighting games, exclusive or not to them, which one is your favorite?
My favorite is Our Hisou Tensoku (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97WTRoPruwY) because like Guile's theme, it goes with absolutely any situation. Not to mention that, but it just gives me a feeling of pride whenever I hear it and enough confidence to fight the rest of the day when I feel horrible.
If I ever become a youkai, this will be my battle theme. I will make it my theme.

Other than that, SWR Border of Life is pretty awesome for it's difference from normal version and catchyness, IaMP Doll Maker of Bucuresti is also great for being almost unchanged from epic PCB version and Skies Beyond the Clouds is way too %^#$^ing intense and epic for a pre-battle theme.

I was hoping to ask a question today about what remix from the fighter games is your favourite, so someone can ask about originals later, but since you've asked both at once I'll answer both.
Original: Unfound Adventure. It has the same charm Heian Alien has, kind of hard to describe, but it's catchy and spaces out its loud and quiet parts well.
Remix: SWR's Evening Star. It's all over the place and yet it's really catchy. Honorable mention to IaMP Hiroari and anything Hisoutensoku has.

Future Goals
I'd love to say I'm satisfied, I really would, but... I'm not. I completed a Normal sweep of all the mainline games, yes, but there's one game I haven't 1CC'd yet. My immediate goals are two-fold - a Normal 1CC of The Great Fairy Wars, and a Capture of Profound Danmaku Bounded Field. Once there, I can continue working on my Hard sweep - I still have, what... 5 of the mainline games to clear on Hard, as well as the Fighters and GFW.
Favorite Fighter Theme
This is just a bit tricky. Opinions on this change and all, but, currently, Oni's Island in the Fairyland.

Nobody EVER pays attention to HRtP and I think that's bullshit because in a series that is strictly shootemups (Besides TasoFro's games), a Volley-shooter game was special.
My favorites are The Positive and Negative (ShinGyoku's theme) and Let's All Die Together (Sariel's final theme).

That aside, I actually don't even recognize most of these tracks. Eternal Shrine Maiden sounds oddly familiar, though I can't say why. The wiki assures me it hasn't appeared in any other games, which I would otherwise be inclined to believe. Especially since this version doesn't measure up to what I remember of it. A lot of the themes are very busy, often unnecessarily so. To me, Sacred Lot stands out as pretty much the only track with enough energy to justify being as busy as it is, and in terms of melody, Blade of Banishment is the catchiest.
Still, I think the only thing that could possibly top EWI Distant Star would be EWI Complete Darkness. (Which I'm not likely to get, since he already did Reincarnation. =/ )

Swordsman of a Distant Star is a huge no. The opening makes it impossible to listen to the song because you're all in a hurry to OH GOD I HAVE TO FORGET THIS TUNE WITH SOMETHING ELSE NOW.

I'd agree with either 'feel' or 'sound' - they're both good descriptors - but I think that's largely due to the limitations of the PC-98 sound chip. ZUN was evidently working with the oldest one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_YM2203), which only gave three FM channels plus a noise channel, and that obviously ties the hands of a composer/mixer with regard to both timbres and layers. That's not to say that ZUN hasn't honed his skills over nearly two decades of composing (for Touhou at least), but at the same time I can hear a lot of melodic variety in PoDD's soundtrack*... at least once I got past the 'this all sounds like the same bleeps and bloops' stage of initial listening.
I can hear some similarities within HRTP's soundtrack - "Magic Mirror" and "The Legend of Cage" share what later became the most recognizable portion of "Capriccio" (although sharing phrases between stage and boss sections of a level is a normal tactic as it somewhat unites that level's music), "Angel's Legend" and "Now, Until the Moment you Die" both borrow from Castlevania's "Heart of Fire", and there are surely a couple/few more that I didn't catch on first listen - but I never felt like I was listening to the same track. That is: it seemed to me that each track largely had its own distinct character. Or, at least, it didn't seem that ZUN was borrowing from himself more than he usually does.
*the only PC-98 soundtrack that I'm familiar with.

I know they're not identical, but they're similar enough to bother me.
Obviously most of the tracks have something defining them. Despite this, they fall in the same very narrow category or genre or whatever (terms, man) and give off the same feel. So although I'm listening to different things, I subconsciously feel like I'm listening to one huge track that isn't even interesting.

I enjoy pretending to play for score in SA. However, UFO objectively has the best system. It's both resources and score in one system, forces you to do stuff to actually get anything from the game. Super frustrating and hilarious when you pick the wrong colors, they end up escaping and so forth. Just a brilliant system, I hope it returns some day. The theoretically best score system would be one which incorporates all the previous scoring systems at the same time, with several different multipliers overlapping, making your high score far exceed the number of atoms in the known universe.

PoDD's? Really? Sustaining chains is largely based upon the sequence of enemy formations, which is random and unpredictable. You can increase your chances of sustaining chains by having good timing with your charge attacks, but otherwise it's luckshit. So the largest portion of your score is non-trivially luckshit-based.
Unless I'm missing something here. I am relatively green to PoDD.
If I liked scoring I'd say MoF's because it's brutal. But I hate scoring and prefer to accidentally get points while going balls to the wall. So PoFV's.

Esu is seemingly presenting this question in two parts, so I'll answer in two parts. :V
Subjectively, I like SA's scoring system the most. It's very, very challenging, but gives some pretty noticeable increases in score whenever you add in a new technique. Despite this, the best routes will still see you trying to capture some stuff normally (and not just because you've maxed out the multiplier, mind you), meaning you'll be tested on some really hard attacks just like you would in a survival run.
However, the one that's most sound is probably MoF's system. It's relatively simple at its core (as in there aren't a whole lot of things you need to keep track of) and greatly emphasizes survival, especially on Spellcards. Chaining has been tried and tested on actual arcade shooters to great effect, and while MoF's works a bit differently due to the bombs, the chaining part still works.

@K.B. I can't say I fully understand the scoring, but yes, it's pretty much luckshit. I think reflecting spirits may be more important than chaining, and I can at least say that as I got better at the game my average score per run increased from around 30mil to 50mil, so it's not completely random. But anyway, I like it because it's fun, not because it makes sense or is reliable in any way. I'd rather play through that game a few times hoping I get a good score (and having a shitload of fun while I'm at it) than memorize a bunch of stuff in a game I think is boring to get a score I don't even care about.

I'll have to pay more attention to spirits with regard to score. Not sure how to test how much you get from destroying a spirit, but there certainly seems to be a marked increase in cancel-able bullets as soon as there's any mass destruction of spirits, so there're probably points to be had by canceling those as well as the actual spirit-destruction. In that vein, I'll have to toy with spamming lvl2s in early rounds to see if that increases the cancel-able bullets (and perhaps spirits) on my side.
Edit: nevermind. PoDD chaining is the worst thing and I'm not touching this game after I finish my hard 1ccs. My z finger is too valuable to me to get some repetitive strain injury over a poorly designed game.
Edit 2: ok not necessarily poorly designed, but certainly pain-inducing. Venting.

In no particular order, here's a long post that I'm not sure who will even read:
IN's is somewhat interesting, but I wouldn't say it's the best.
MoF's is fun since you don't have to do that much to score. However, that also makes watching the world records not as interesting for the exact same reason. Also death = failure is annoying.
EoSD's is strange (bombing for canceled bullets?).
PCB's is fun but also confusing just because there's so much going on (instead of one main gimmick to focus on plus collecting point items at full value). And I'm not really a fan of the way unfocusing is nearly always better than focusing.
MS's is too simple (and heavily biased toward Mima), basically just survival plus collecting point items, though it's fun to get a score with letters in it.
LLS's seems to be primarily memorizing the best places to bomb for point items (which I never bothered learning).
SoEW's is luck-based depending on how many point items you can collect at maximum value.
HRtP's is somewhat interesting, but it's also the best way to play for survival, and trivializes the game more than TD.
SA I've never really tried scoring in, though graze auto-collect is fun.
UFO's is incredibly high-risk-high-reward. There's so many different ways things can go wrong, but when everything goes right, the points really start coming in... Probably my favorite to watch, but not my favorite to play (except maybe in Extra).
TD's is completely broken, and the result isn't even as fun as bombing through everything could be, since your resources are too strict.
In conclusion: I have no idea.
Also I second the vote for all the previous scoring systems at the same time (with adjustments so they all have some effect, and also limit the negatives like MoF's dying penalty and TD's bomb trivializing). As long as the limits are also removed, so it doesn't just max out at 999990 x 9.99 then crash when you summon a UFO.

Fourth. I honestly can't think of anything I dislike about PCB's scoring. It encourages unfocused movement (never a bad thing to get used to), has hardly any milking at all outside of borders, doesn't completely trash your run if you die once or twice, has plenty of depth and planning... And to quote Heartbeam: "PCB's grazing sound is like no other. It's really soothing when you stand by a stream of bullets." That tktktk really adds a lot to the enjoyability to it for me, however silly that may sound. Stage 4 grazing is such a beautiful thing...
I also like LLS and MoF's systems though! LLS is quite simple - collect the items, graze when you can, use up your bombs to collect items for double value, use up your lives for more bombs. It rewards good survival by giving you more room for suicides/bombing, and unlike games with similar systems (EoSD), there's hardly any milking involved with it. MoF is cool because it focuses pretty heavily on survival. Don't die and you'll get a good score. It can get pretty aggravating if you're going out of your way for high scores, but if you just play it for the sake of playing it's quite fun. And very encouraging since your scores will increase proportionately to your skills. I sorta like IN's solo human system too, since for the most part it's just simple no-focus survival. I really despise team and solo youkai scoring in IN though - too much milking.
Other games... As much as I love them, I'm not really into scoring for them. I'd probably like UFO's if it weren't so strict with UFO chaining, and TD's if it were more like what Nereid's doing to it.

What is your favourite spell card from Great Fairy Wars?
Freezing mechanic makes for awesome spell cards, and it's a shame they don't get the recognition that the main games do. A lot of my favourites are from this one, but I'd say my favourite is Luna Child's version of "Three Fairies". So intimidating and so much fun, even on Easy.

What is your favorite ultra patch?
You know, those things so utterly full of undodgable garbage, but also some really fun added challenges. Mine would probably be PCB, by virtue of *not* having a broken final spellcard, while still being fun through the rest of it (except Youmu's last nonspell. That's broken but technically doable.) Mountain on Faith's would be a lot more fun...except for Virtue of Wind Wall God. Honorable mention to the GFW ultra patch for being ironically easier than the main game on normal.

10-6 on Ultra is sheer hilarity.
I remember TAS'ing that with Hourglass, and I just could not keep a straight face while playing just because of how bat-shit insane it is!
You have to dodge unfocused through bubble bullets that overlap so much that you can't tell where you are, you have to navigate either via rote or following the path of the white lights off the bubble bullets because of the sheer density of it all, it's the most insane, cruel and sadistic maze I've ever seen.
I have not had that much enjoyment out of something totally impossible than from playing that scene.
I might not be in the spirit of the question since I played it with tools but whatever, it amused me and continues to. So it wins. Nyeh.

Favourite ultra patch: The only one i've tried was the one for TD, and it's pretty fun. Applied to normal mode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElWaAAwn-_E) it makes game much more fun like it should be.On hard and lunatic it becomes pretty ridiculous at times, though some cards (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk72J8MbbU8) in spell practice are still fun.

U.N. Owen Was Her? just sounds great no matter what (even as an automated Super Mario World level (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyAn2NfrI3I)). One of my favourite arrangements is actually the one from Touhou RPG, which many people seem to hate. The other one is Common State of Innocent Violence by Crow'sClaw.

Meh. Final (and Extra) boss themes are usually complete misses with me, only (somewhat) working in-game. They do well with building tension but nearly all of them are repetitive, and artists too often ignore this and make painfully drawn-out arrangements.
Anyway.
The correct answer is Victory Demonstration, which is from PoDD. Per CDWiki, there are exactly three arrangements (http://www16.atwiki.jp/toho/?cmd=search&keyword=%E5%8B%9D%E5%88%A9%E3%83%87%E3%83%A2) of it, but one of those must be ignored because it uses a second theme, and another one must be discounted because it is a mere twelve seconds long and thus hardly a musical piece on its own. The one remaining arrangement is flap+frog's "peace with the humans is NOT POSSIBLE." (from the album "dominoes e.p."), which is fan(fare)tastic.
Therefore, Victory Demonstration has a 100% rate of awesome arrangementnessicity.
Beat that.

OK I think I get the question: Comic Mind Emotional skyscraper, because it is like the only song that all remixes sound really good even that one in the music album

Septette for the Dead Princess. The original was OK, but something about the instruments or something feels a bit off to me. But to me the melody has great potential, and arrangements usually bring that out.
One notable one to me is "Linen" by White Elephant - and I'm usually not a big fan of vocal arrangements.

I've said it before, I'm generally underwhelmed by Touhou arrangements. In particular my favorite songs tend to lose the attributes that I like most about them. I realize, of course, that part of the idea behind arrangements is to change the song into something else, so perhaps that's to be expected. (And it would be a lie to say that I've delved into the world of arrangements to any significant depth in the first place.)
Anyway, I do like piano arrangements, as well as the occasional "8-bit remix." A lot of them don't translate well to piano though, so I guess my choices are still a bit limited. I'll say Third Eye. It loses some it's intensity, but it's complex enough to not sound empty.

My best achievement? Generally, the most recent one. I always seem to get excited for a while about whatever I just achieved, whether it was a new 1cc, a challenge of some kind, improving a high score, or what. Then it dies down, and I need to accomplish something else to feel like I've achieved something.

Ten Desires, so underrated. Old Yuanshen is my favourite in the series, and other themes like Youkai Girl at the Gate (198th in popularity poll is bull) and Futatsuiwa from Sado make it my favourite game for OST.

Super dense: You have nowhere to stand so it's impossible.
Super fast: You can survive any speed theoretically, unless they're so fast you physically can't move out of the way and they are aimed right at you.
So I don't know. I can't really answer since I don't know what's considered an average "fast" spell or "dense" spell.

Again, fast bullets are fine so long as they don't require maneuvering between dense patterns. For example, you'd be surviving Eternal Meek rather easily until when the game decides to send a dense cluster of bullets your way. and that's when the card is hard.

Yeah but it doesn't have to be very dense at all (for me). If Eternal Meek was slow you certainly wouldn't think it's dense.
I'll go with fast. But I think fast bullets with little density (Eternal Meek on Normal Mode) or dense bullets with little speed (can't think of a great example... Cirno?) both aren't too hard. Attacks need both decent density and decent speed.

Dense or fast - Fast stuff, when the fast stuff isn't just simple streaming or whatever. It's not very common in Touhou though. ZUN was all over it with his PC98s, but outside of Eternal Meek, I can't think of anything that's really all that fast in the windows games.

I'm finding it near impossible to pick a "hardest card" (or even "cards"), so I'll settle for my choices for "most fun" and why.
- Double Black Death Butterfly: Not nearly as hard as Satori's version, but still good enough to keep me on my toes.
- Izuna Gongen/Border of Life and Death: This would probably go into my "hardest cards" list if I had one. I like how I'm forced to really think ahead when reading the bullets in this card.
- Froggy Braves the Elements: Straight-up high-quality dodging. What's not to like?
- Rorschach in Danmaku: Pattern-based tight dodging, requires good judgment to ensure the gap you choose is actually big enough. :V
- Danmaku Chimera: Not that hard, but the idea of lasers turning to bullets and then back to lasers somehow never gets old.

I'm talking about things like unofficial phantasm stages, danmakufu scripts, fangames, and the like.
My pick would have to be a tie between Mitori Kawashiro (Fun as hell, and "Forbid!!" sold it for me), Koishi Hell 2 for Philosophy of a Hated Meme, not to mention the good spell design, the good degree of humor, and nothing was stupid, and my third choice being Kanpukugu Otohime
xxxx for just the sheer amount of creativity that goes into her cards. Almost all of her spells have an original gimmick of their own involved and honestly it's a breath of fresh air from DODGE THESE DENSE BULLETS THEN THESE FAST BULLETS THEN THESE DENSE FAST BULLETS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
But if you want me to pick one single, Kanpukugu. While Mitori is fun as hell to play against, Kanpukugu is actually beatable with a semi-rational life counter.

What is your favorite Final Spell?
I mean as far as the last spell of a game. This can count for either Stage 6 bosses or Extra Stage bosses. This can also count for fan-made scripts because they're just as good as the games in most cases. Kaguya's can be interpreted as either Rising World or Rainbow Danmaku, Eirin's can be interpreted as either Hourai Elixir or Astronomical Entombing, Mokou can be interpreted as either Imperishable Shooting or Hourai Doll, both PCB Phantasm and Extra can be used, Yuyuko's can be either Getting Lost or __% Reflowering.
My favorite Final Spell would have to be either Hourai Elixir, Divine Virtue of Wind God, or Flying Fantastica.

In all seriousness, I like most of the Extra finishers, namely BoLaD, IS and Crudge Bow. Hourai Elixir and -80% reflowering are cool, but I also do love Scarlet Gensokyo since I secretly play and like EoSD.

Still Emotional Skyscraper for having a good contrast of slow and action-packed parts for a uniquely epic feel, being really long without losing quality, and tied to an awesome boss no less. Honorable mention to Fate of Sixty Years, for everything I just said. <_<

PCB's and IN's are too weak, SA's and UFO's don't home.
TD's is fine for an unfocused shot but NEEDLES.
Thinking about it a bit I have to go with MoF-the homing part feels like it does more damage than the one in EoSD, which has...shotgun advantage but a weaker bomb.

I'd say that the one that just looks best to me would be either MoF or SA. They're both beautiful as fuck.

When I see Yuyuko's Overdrive, I see it almost like the arms of a galaxy spiraling outward. Yeah, I'm a geek like that. :V
As for best visuals, I think MoF takes the cake here. ZUN put a lot of effort into the Spellcard designs, something he hasn't truly been able to match since. The stage backgrounds are superb, especially Stage 3, and they're all accentuated with the floating leaves everywhere. Autumn really is the most beautiful season if you ask me, and that certainly helps the visuals for a game that specifically takes place in that time of year.

Subterranean Animism. Crisp sprites, colorful patterns, lots of visual activity, and LOTS OF FIRE in the last few levels.
Character art is a bit uneven (Reimu and Marisa look decent, Yuugi looks DERP) but acceptable and as usual ZUN makes up for lack of grace with abundance of style. :3

Which game has your favorite scoring system?
Dream system, EoSD's scoring, Cherry system, Time system, Whatever PoFV has, Faith system, Communication Gauge, UFO system, Freezing system, Spirits system.
I enjoy the UFOs the most, honestly. I used to hate them, but they've grown on me. UFO has since become one of my favorite Touhou games :derp:
SA used to be my favorite, then PCB before that. I wonder what happened >_>

After spending some more time with it recently, I'd definitely say MoF. There are other Touhou games that have more depth to them, but MoF feels much more intuitive and satisfying to me, since it lacks any of that shitty graze milking that puts me off of just about every other windows game. Just bomb strategically in certain places, manage your power, optimize item collects and don't die. No-missing is probably the most ridiculous thing the game expects of you, mostly because of Aya, but it's a kind of ridiculous that I can get behind. :V

My top 3 most annoying cards:
1. Mesh of Light and Darkness. Oh hey let's make a card that's like 80% dependent on luck to decide whether you live or die. How in the FUCK did ZUN think this was a good idea.
2. Gathering Void. Which one? Any of them. This might be cheating a bit, but it's all the same horrible gimmick, invisible or nigh-invisible bullets with tons of clipdeath.
3. Emperor of the Land of the Rising Sun. Awkward moving bright bullets with terrible hitboxes to make for a card that seems to kill me every bloody time and it never stops being embarrassing because it looks so bloody easy...raeg raeg raeg.

Kanako's final nonspell sucks not because it's a super bad idea and definitely not because it's hard. The fact you can't bomb it and get it over with is just dumb. This isn't a big deal with Remilia's nonspell because bombs didn't cheese the game in EoSD.
But our winner is definitely Midboss Kogasa's spell. UGH.

What's your favorite Touhou discovery?
Something that you learned in or by way of Touhou that caused you to think "holy crap that's cool" or something to that effect. Firsthand or secondhand, canon or fanon. Could be any of a host of things, such as a trick/tactic to handling a certain attack, a gameplay quirk, a reference (to mythology, another game, etc), a specific fan-work (or fan-work as a whole), a community, or a social event. As long as you didn't know about it before you Touhou-ed.
Extremely broad, even thread-level, but I thought it would still work here and that the results could be interesting. And HME's answers would be different from another sub-forum's.

Sheer size of the canon stuff... Yeah, especially the huge cast of the games. I mean, there are other games that have a cast of bigger size, but, as a danmaku game, Touhou was certainly the first game I got into that had a sizable cast of characters.

Phantasmagoria of Dimensional Dream. Maybe it's odd to just name one of the games as a discovery. I could of course just say something about all of those talented creators of erotic Touhou artwork of whom I've become aware, but this is better. Having been unaware of the game's greatness for most of a year, it certainly did feel like a discovery to me when I finally played it. I'd heard it was fairly hard compared to the newer games, and so I was just expecting a big pile of bullshit that owed any difficulty it had to being poorly designed crap. However, despite some bad first impressions, I quickly found that I had more fun playing that game than any of the others. Even after becoming less attached to the rest of the Touhou series, and branching out into other shmups (Cave, Psikyo, whatever) I haven't found anything else that comes anywhere close to PoDD. So I'd say it's a good discovery for me, having found a game that I can say is easily one of my favorite games of all time.

If I may also use one of the games as my answer, then SA. I should point out that I had known about Touhou for months before I got into any of the games, though I still didn't know much about the franchise and wasn't all that interested in it. I consider SA as being my most important discovery because it led to all the other things I would find out about Touhou afterward.

The most recent one I can think of is
Enemy Bullet Bonus When you finish off one of the boss's lives (caused by completely depleting the visible healthbar) or defeat a Spell Card of a boss, all enemy bullets on screen are tallied up to calculate the Enemy Bullet Bonus. The more enemy bullets there are on screen, the higher this bonus becomes. This bonus is independent of any star items collected from finishing off a boss's attack pattern. Finding the correct time in a boss's attack to finish them off can mean the difference between an Enemy Bullet bonus of 100,000 and one of 4,000,000 or more. The formula that the game uses to calculate the bullet bonus is as such: The first bullet that is on the screen is worth 2000 points. For each bullet after this, its value increases by 20, up to the max of 8000 points per bullet. For example, the first bullet is worth 2000, second is 2020, third: 2040, fourth: 2060, and so on till the 301st and beyond bullets are worth 8000 points each.

Kind of weird, but I discovered that the Extra stages were nothing like I thought they were; at first, I thought they were on par with Lunatic, but that's because I didn't know the difference between one sea of bullets and another. The moment I realized Extra is within my reach is the moment I got the motivation to go all the way.

At first, I had no idea regarding them. After some researching and analyzing their stories in the CDs, I found how interesting they truly were.
I've always been in the impression that they are like our representatives in Touhouniverse, or more precisely our dreamer representatives from the possible distant future. They have the potential to become the bridge between reality and Gensokyo, and I would love to see that. Highly unlikely though.

See, it doesn't matter what position you collect the items at, it matters what position the items are when they're collected.
That means if it's any distance from the PoC, it's going to be worth whatever value, indifferent toward whether you collect it from top, bottom, or side.

I think shin's UFO routes are pretty amazing discoveries. Also the suicide scoring trick at the end of TD is pretty damn cool.
Personally the only thing that I discovered (that wasn't already known, like the random bugs, obvious safespots, TD shotgunning etc.) is a non-random freezing trick in the C routes which might give 20,000+ more points than the current WR routes.

Which Stage 5 Boss do you enjoy most?
This has a bit to do with the fact that I've been playing a lot of Lotus Land Story lately, but Yuuka Kazami. Her fight is just all over the place and it's fun for just that reason. It's arguably more fun than the Stage 6 fight.

It is pretty hard to pick...maybe Sanae because FAITH IS FOR TRANSIENT PEOPLE is a enjoyable theme and it is easy to deal with in a real run. I also recall myself having a bit fun with Futo, but her theme has a long, extremely repetitive sequence, so I may stick with Sanae.

I quite like Endless Evening Cherry Blossoms. The idea of Yuyuko shooting off butterflies to shake cherry blossom petals off the trees is just so adorable yet foreboding. Also the sheer density of the card is lots of fun to read and dodge, even if I do get blindsided by it quite a bit.

Certain scores? Number of point items? Life pieces dropped by bosses? Dropped by UFOs? Spirits? What's your favorite system of extends, and why?
Personally, I prefer the # of point items system that IN and PCB have. It appeals to me personally because I have this OCD thing where I feel the need to get all point items even though I never play for score. It's a shame to see videos of people playing Touhou games without this system and not really bother to collect point items, so I like the system that encourages getting them.

While all of these systems reward you for good play of some kind, I think SA's is the best because at least the game directly rewards you for being good at the danmaku itself, which you should be striving for anyway.

Probably either SA's, or the point item system in MS/PCB where you can gain an extra extend or two if your point item collection is particularly optimized (as opposed to IN where 1100 is nearly guaranteed).
Special mention to HRtP where bombing for extends and recklessly attacking the bosses is actually possibly the easiest way to clear the game.

GFW's motivation system. Rather than have discrete pieces of lives as in all other games, in GFW the "life" acts as some kind of constantly refillable health bar. I thought that was pretty cool :)

GFW EX scoring - I just restart randomly if I get bored. If it's really bad I'll continue to experiment/practice with things. (and try to get those gold medals that my keyboard doesn't want me getting)
Since I don't really have any "goals" other than to satisfy my wretched addiction, I don't really care if the runs go to shit.

Got 900,000 Faith for the first time at the Sanae fight, after having died once and losing 200,000, and then dying to incredibly incredibly stupid shit (double-koing her opener because of walls)

For normal runs, past Stage 2. For scoring runs, it varies based on how severe the mistake is.

When you see yourself fail to capture cards that you can do consistently. For example, on MoF Normal, Stage 2/3 midboss card is a good test to see if I am normal to play Touhou that day :)
Once I get into stage 4, I never restart. Stage 3 restarts are rare too. If the run involves some kind of challenge, there isn't any "limit" :)

How late is too late to restart?
For survival runs, never restart. For scoring, whenever I think it's become unreasonable to reach my goal. The two games I score in have different restart points, UFO could be anywhere as sometimes I'll adjust my UFO route to add in two more large red UFOs and hopefully recover the run a bit if I dip below my allowed amount of deaths (>2 usually). I finish the credit if I get to Shou regardless of how reasonable finishing with a decent score is (this would also be the point where I'd stop going for survival completely regardless of how well I'm doing and try to one life the rest of the game, collecting only blue UFOs).
Non-Touhou, but it's fairly relevant so... DOJBL is auto-restart if I die before 2-2 ever since I started scoring. When I was just going for a 2-ALL I wouldn't ditch any runs that made it past 1-1, which was pretty much every credit. Dying on 1-1 meant I'd play something else until I felt comfortable with approaching DOJBL again since the death would completely annihilate my focus and bring on thoughts like "what if I make a silly mistake like this at a more important time?" so I always found it best to just forget about it and do something else for a bit. They only time I would restart because of a 1-1 death rather than stop playing would be if I was streaming or something similar.

It depends on quite a lot. Though I'd almost certainly restart after one death with bombs remaining up to the stage 2 boss, two deaths with bombs remaining up to the stage 3 boss, or three deaths with bombs remaining up to the stage 4 boss. After that, I probably won't restart, unless I'm going for a no-death run or something else that can be instantly failed (in which case I'll play it out anyway if I'm at least ~80% done, or if I think I need more practice on something later in the run, but otherwise restart).
However, if I have a new high score, and I'm beyond stage 1, I'll never restart (or continue in Touhou 4-8) regardless of performance.

Depends on how much difficulty I foresee on later stages. Should I invest time on how to learn later stages in a full run (practice stage feels a whole world different for me, no pressure), while effectively zeroing my chances on clearing it, or should I spam restarts so I have decent chance on making a somewhat complete run? Normally my plan on making run goes like this :
stage practices, route making -> no restart full runs -> full runs with a lot of restarts from earlier stage -> achievement

PCB and IN really get their respective themes across well IMO... Deep Mountain really has that "wintery" feel, and Illusionary Night really has that "dark night" feel.
EoSD was one of the first I've heard, but other than the nostalgia factor it's probably not as good as some of the others. Best song name ever though
SA/UFO are both pretty good, don't really know what to say about them. MoF is OK I guess but not the biggest fan, sorry MoF music fans

I'll say Reimu's bouncing yin-yang orbs, in both PoDD and PoFV. In PoDD they're very fast and tend to make walls, so lots of big movements are needed, as well as reading ahead since the paths open and close quickly as the bullets bounce and overlap each other. They're much slower in PoFV, but make up for it by being gigantic.

Almost anything from the PC-98 games. The Last Judgement would be my top choice.
Not that I'm overly aware of how popular particular songs are.

Voile, the Magic Library. IDK. It fits the atmosphere, I like the piano melody, and arranges of it often end up sounding awesome.
Another good on is Ran's theme. It's overshadowed by Necrofantasia, but apparently I'm the weird one because I actually prefer Necro-Fantasy.
I also think the Stage 1 Theme from both PCB is a bit underrated, as far as I can tell. And IN's stage 1 theme - very dark and different from ZUN's usual style, but done very well nonetheless. And IN's stage 3 theme. And IN's stage 5 theme. lol.

I didn't count Necro-Fantasy because Necrofantasia is effectively a remix/slightly altered version of it. I count them as pretty much the same. Like the Yukari and Ran fights are altered versions of one another.
As for GFW, the only theme I like there is Staking your Life on a Prank, the others are meh at best IMO.

Which character do you feel needs more development/information given to/about them?
There are the forfront characters that everyone knows about, those with back stories, those with multiple games worth of information. These tend to be the playable characters, or final bosses, however, there are exceptions. [Kasen is neither playable nor a final boss, for example.]
Then there are characters which seem interesting, but little is known about. A lot more potential exists for their character development, but none is given.
Personally, I'd like to have more revealed about Hina. She seems to be a feared Goddess, however, what event made people fear her? In addition, she is a Curse Goddess, and Suwako can control them. What, if anything, is her reaction or relation to Suwako? Has Suwako ever controlled her? What brought her to Gensokyo, seeing as faith isn't likely the fuel for a Curse Goddess like normal ones?

I think the only reason I didn't say Rumia is because I have my whole idea of Rumia's backstory in my head due to Rumia Quest.
That said there's also those characters that it's fun to think up the background of, those better left a mystery, because the mystery is part of the character, and what makes them... them. Without that ribbon mystery, Rumia would just be the 1st boss of Windows, and about as remembered as the Aki sisters or Yamane.

Yuuka is another one, but again, this is my bias speaking. I don't know who of the less-developed characters would really be ideal for the story in general, but just for my favoritism towards those two, some more material dealing with them would be great. Yuuka's storyline in PoFV was great.

Let's see, Yuuka, Elly, Rika, and the actual backstory of Rumia. 'Course there's also a bunch of other Stage 1-3 bosses that I won't bother to list. Does Murasa or Satori ever get mentioned again? NO. I hate how it's rare when a boss appears again in another game. It'd at least be nice to see them as a midboss like Cirno (Stage 1 of PCB for those who don't remember/haven't played the game).
As for 4-Ex bosses, the Prismriver Sisters were just encountered then left alone. I liked the three (Aside from the fact that Merlin's a jerk when it comes to danmaku) and I wish that they'd appear somehow in another game, maybe as consecutive midbosses like how Alice appeared repeatedly in Stage 3 of PCB :V

Kogasa first and foremost. ZUN should make a manga about her fucking up at surprising others. Something that would be both funny and seriously cute/seriously sad at the same time.
Then make an anime adaptation so it's easier to say Touhou is my favorite anime without being jumped by zealous fans. :V

What we need most is a 'real life' story about Genji. How Reimu worked him to the bone and never gave him any respect, and his thanks for all his loyal service was being kicked to the curb once she got off her lazy bitch ass and flew herself around. It'll go through the hard years he spent homeless on 'da pond', the lowest of the lows being his near-brush with death from huffing swamp gas, but it'll end on an upswing with him finally being cleaned up and having discovered a renewed sense of purpose after being 'saved' by the strict but caring Yama and hired as an additional ferryman.
The shinigami x reptile scenes will be released in a bonus dvd.

The ultra patches. I like them because it increases the regular difficulty of stuff (most of the time) and gives you auto bombs so you don't have to take care of resource management and focus entirely on dodging.

No-focus is also very fun, though only in certain games. (It's great in EoSD.) Another one I like, though it's rather specific, is PoFV without casting spells. In fact, I think that's more fun than playing normally.

They will quickly learn that ZUN put a lot of spells in there to spit you in your face if you dare to suggest not freezing things. Kinda moronic to do something like that when there's a gold medal system.

I can vouch for this being possible on A1. You do end up timing out a lot of patterns and I died a bunch but all my deaths were dumb.

No-bomb. Only like pacifist on certain attacks (especially those with neat timeout phases), not on whole stages. Will try 90fps when I get the new computer. Agreeing with Funen about the other things... I've read folks (or at least Zil) touting the benefits of no-focus (ex: reads/dodges you otherwise wouldn't have made), but I haven't seen that from my limited experience.
Alternately, convincing people to play PoFV.

It would take a lot for anything to beat this. Though I've been on a massive binge of The Butterfly of Isaac the Traveler lately. How has it taken me this long to realize how good that is.
And yeah, I can definitely echo Footprints of Trieste, that thing is the best Extra stage theme in all of Touhou. Bar none.
Can't forget to also mention Submarine Illusion and The Singing Leader Looks Up to the Sky, two themes that really don't get enough love.
Also, Stage 5 deserves special mention for having the best main-game stage theme and one of the best boss themes in the game, both of which are really saying something.

In terms of stage alone i'd have to say PCB because of how chaotic the bullet rape becomes. However, even though it's fun it still feels a bit unfair at times in how you just pray that not too many problematic things come your direction. But that's just because I suck no doubt, it's nevertheless the most interesting stage portion.
If we include midbosses though I'll have to go with EoSD because of Eternal Meek. That attack is one of the most badass spells in the entire series so that makes an otherwise empty stage feel rewarding to play through.

In terms of pure level design, none of them are remarkable at all, too brief and simplistic and with only a few instances of actual challenge. However, I still think plenty of them have some neat stuff and the atmosphere+music is usually great. UFO's is awesome to me but man is it annyoing without SanaeB. This stage is way different from the others. I think I'll have to hand this one to EoSD actually, love the foreboding music and midboss Sakuya is tough. It's fun to bomb the ring fairies. SA couldve been decent but the streaming section is too bloated and the midboss isn't interesting. PCB's would've been a good pick if it wasn't for the fact that you can just activate a border for the fairy spam (and this fact makes that section all the more annoying if you do not have a border) and Youmu's spell is too easily trivialized. The PC-98 game final stages are just pathetic. So yeah, EoSD (nevermind the fact that GFW's final stages are a million times better than any of the others)

UFO or MS. UFO has FIRES OF HOKKAI and space invader fairies and Hokkai as a background and yay. MS has tons of point items if you need an extend right before you go into the Shinki fight.

UFO has some motherfucking atmosphere and ZUN really exerted himself with the Hokkai background. That stage is one of the few things in video games that always gives me the chills.
I'd also consider MoF if it weren't for the boring and annoyingly precise streaming sections.

I'm a little conflicted on this, but I like LLS's and SA's. LLS because it's theme is beautiful for last stage (like IN, but better in my opinion), and SA's because of the tense lead-up to Utsuho.

Lotus Land Story. I was always charmed by the simplicity of both the stage and the music. Where virtually every final stage is dark or dramatic or tense, this one is just...calm. Like Yuka is happily waiting for you to catch up to her.

So basically the easiest pattern you can think of, perhaps even trivial, that would yet be extremely impressive to someone with no STG/Touhou experience? (No, I don't know why this question popped into my head)
Something like Honest Man's Death is piss easy and also unimpressive. What's so impressive about a single tap? Something like VoWG is on the opposite end, where it's extremely hard, yet extremely impressive when watched by anyone.
So how about combining the two extremes? I haven't given much thought to this myself, but I'll throw out one just as an idea. Perhaps Stage 4 of UFO with a forward shot type (excluding the red portion because that is definitely not easy)? Honestly I've always found stage 4 to be easy because you get so many UFOs that a lot of the truly hard stuff becomes rather trivial, but I'm thinking that perhaps all the dodging and moving around and weaving through bullets to collect UFOs would be impressive to a casual observer. This idea might be slightly tinged by the fact that all I've been playing recently is SA and UFO so... I'm sure there are better ones out there! (Or maybe a completely obvious one that I've missed)

While probably a shit standard, I am ways from consistency on Kaguya's 4th last spell.
It is simple, yeah, but easy to fail and so late in the game that you will be jumpy on good runs.
I guess I could say timing out SFN is oddly easy once you have enough practice with it, but, enough practice might make everything easy.
But I've said SFN enough, so we'll go with Repository of Hirokawa. Magic Butterfly as well, I guess.

Mystia Lorelei's SpellCards, when those arrow-like projectiles reach high speeds
Keine's Phantasmal Emperor, looks 1337 when you dodge through them narrow spaces via the most basic of methods [I had many "WTF how you did that" after doing a field test in school, but eh, most "easy when you know what to do" SpellCards garner that reaction.]
Also, Reisen's Visionary Tuning/Illusion Seeker, when you mastered it, it becomes a lot easier and impressive too. Her Invisible Full Moon also counts when you figure out the secret behind it.
Marisa's Master Spark and Stardust Reverie and her 2nd non-spell was what gathered most reaction, however, tied with Visionary Tuning.

After a bit of thinking, I think my answer is Kaguya's third last spell. When you just look at it, it's a go-to picture for "this is how insane danmaku is," but it's really pretty easy once you learn how to overcome the information overload. I hardly ever fail it.

Oddly enough I find the 2nd non to be generally much more manageable. :V But that's because I just seem to be able to dodge weird things sometimes while i'm still a worthless fucktard that can't dodge simple patterns like RTG or CC with consistency. Only sometimes. Which is indeed pretty worthless.

I was playing EoSD Stage 6 Lunatic at school once (because I'm that cool), and when I got to Remilia's three-part nonspell, people flipped out when I dodged the fast bubble attack. So apparently that one. Also, Thousand Needle Mountain looked really impressive to me as a noob, but I wouldn't call that attack trivial (but maybe I'm just bad).

Legendary Flying Saucer. I remember a time (before I played it or Flying Fantastica myself) when I saw a video of it and it seemed easy and anticlimatic compared to Byakuren's earlier cards. I think I was looking at the bullets in the top half of the screen instead of the region around the player's hitbox.

Doing well for some tournament or whatever is enjoyable, so is learning something new and nailing silly things. It's the little rush of excitement when you know you have something good going I guess. Randomly having some really silly dodging happen can feel nice too.

let's take a first 1cc. it doesn't even matter which difficulty it is, can be easy, normal, hard or lunatic. first 1ccs are hard work and never come out of nowhere, but once you've managed, it's all like "wooooooooooow, awesome". you know? I remember my first 1cc lunatic. I was freaking happy - and that was only TD.
Same with the perfects I've been doing the past weeks. Some of them were hard work and took a lot of tries (I.e MoF stage 4, MoF extra or IN Stage 6A). And even though most were done pretty quickly, it still feels awesome to have perfected Koishi, for instance. It also looks cool.

The great thing about danmaku games is that no matter your skill level there's a place for you. The barrier to entry is real damn low since you only have to deal with movement and one or two buttons, and the suggestion "don't die". As you improve there's always one or two accomplishments just above your skill level, up to the point where you're able to make WRs. And even then, there are still optimizations to chase.
Now, why I like Touhou specifically:
- ZUN is a pretty cool guy and I want to give him my money.
- REPLAY SAVING
Dear god if you're not from the arcade shmup community you don't know what a big deal that is but trust me.
- The community recognizes the value of practice and is generally competent.

Short term: the tension. When I'm close enough to my current goal, my heart is always pounding like mad. I've never been so nervous while playing a video game before (not even when playing Wolfenstein 3D and Doom in my early childhood, and those are seriously frightening games when you're seven years old) and I love it.
Long term: the sense of improvement and accomplishment, definitely. Touhou is the first video game series that really managed to incite my ambition - it's both so beautiful (visually and musically) and so challenging, you feel really inclined to keep trying. I still enjoyed playing various video games before, but never really cared about them.

I enjoy Touhou for making progress. Like Sakurei said, getting that first 1cc or Extra clear is amazing. Over the last couple of weeks, I've made some amazing strides in the series, which have given me the confidence to start working on harder accomplishments, such as more Hard 1ccs and Extra clears, and eventually challenge runs. It's that sense of accomplishment that has kept me going and will keep me going until I finish everything. And then I'll keep playing because it's a creative shmup with good patterns and great music.

Ditto "progress." Even in other hard games, you get better at them just enough to get through them. Here, even after you beat it, you still want to get better and better. It's nice knowing I can do something now I couldn't before due to hard practice, even if that something may just seem like a silly game to others.

Have to agree with everyone else... There's something rather nice about thinking: "How the hell was I not able to 1CC EoSD a month ago?".
However, this could be applied to anything. The reason I like Touhou specifically is that even if you aren't working towards anything, you can still have fun. There's something about how all of the music and graphics (make of it what you will) and gameplay come together that makes it so nice to experience.

It seems I didn't answer this myself... Anyway, first of all, the music. And the way the series has some of the most interesting scoring systems I've ever seen certainly contributes.
But more importantly, it feels like Touhou makes use of a higher proportion of the skills I've developed from playing so many other games: whether it's reflexes, figuring out strategies for specific parts of the game, the endurance aspect of surviving for a while without saving, learning details about the gameplay/scoring systems, even watching others' videos/replays and otherwise finding information online (something that can take the fun out of playing other games for myself, but feels like it makes Touhou more fun). This is especially relevant considering how easy many official console games have been lately.

I guess my primary enjoyment comes from the awesome feeling of seeing myself improve over time. This was much easier to see when I was still working my way up from Normal difficulty, and now I've kind of plateaued in the sense that I don't really have a good measuring stick for myself anymore. Also I guess I'm a natural show-off when it comes to things I feel I'm good at, and I know that when I first saw the game, I was basically in awe in terms of how people could play it. I think I rather enjoy passing on that feeling to someone else, especially when I get to show them a replay of myself playing at Normal as well. Embarrassing, but still awesome.
That's my general motivation for playing games, but for Touhou specifically, I can sum it up to the absolutely wonderful overall presentation. Music, design, lore (I'm still in awe at some connections that ZUN explains in his side books), fun-level, etc. I can't think of any particular area where the games are sorely lacking (ok the art, but the design is still great), and seeing the colors and hearing the music every time has a nice sense of familiarity that I just enjoy because I know that I'm sure as hell going to love what's coming. I guess I also like the somewhat relaxing part of playing the game. Sure I might rage every once in a while, but let me tell you that the community around competitive multiplayer games like LoL and Starcraft get rather grating after a while, and Touhou is a nice way to just kick back and enjoy a game just for what it is, and not necessarily because of some socially imposed import. And sometimes I get that feeling of social constructs and whatnot being far too stressful and rather fake, so like I said before, it's nice to just "enjoy a game just for what it is, and not necessarily because of some socially imposed import."

I like the challenge they provide. Not enough games actually challenged me, so I had to invent a bunch of silly restrictions. Then Touhou came along and was impossible, and I liked it. Though now some lunatics are easy but I can always make it harder with a silly challenge :V

I play it for many reasons:
- Awesome community where the players back each others up, congratulate each other on their achievements, help new ones grow their skills with advice and motivating pokes. Even chatting with people here through IRC is a rewarding experience to me. This is probably the best online community i've ever been involved with and I don't see myself wanting to leave it anytime soon.
- Hot and otherwise awesome loli characters. Need not elaborate further on that.
Oh and I guess the gameplay's pretty awesome too. I've reached the point where 1cc'ing the Touhou games I care for on Lunatic mode isn't hard at all but there's still so much to learn. I'm still not what I'd call a good player because there are so many patterns that still give me trouble and kill me all the time. To play these games and actually succeed on something that's wickedly difficult is very awesome and easily outweighs any frustration I went through due to fucking up out of retardedness and stupidity.
I also find Touhou style dodging to be superior to Arcade style dodging even if the latter has way better stage design. Touhou bosses kick ass. I hope ZUN never stops making games so i can keep giving him my money for them.

TAO Taidou ~Dao~, also known as Seiga's overdrive.
The 'nearly' is because I haven't done all of Patchy, Prismrivers or Satori due to different shot types to get there and long Stage 4s, and I'm missing a few Stage 3-5 UFO patterns and Orin's 3rd spellcard.

Just about anything Remilia has to offer really. Scarlet Meister, Scarlet Gensokyo, Vampire Illusion, that sort of thing. Why are these so terrifying?
There are attack patterns like Peerless Luck God, Purple Shit, Mokou's Rings of Doom or Greatest Treasure. But they all carry that same luxury that their games don't give the bullets considerably larger hitboxes than in any other game in the series so it's easier for me to survive through those, or at least see my death coming so I can bomb it.
Scarlet Meister is a cruel bitch because you have to weave through these bullets pretty fucking quickly. I haven't had much practice with it so I have only been able to capture it once but what i've seen from it is pretty harsh. Also, if Remilia moves to the wrong side then you can pretty much kiss your ass goodbye. Scarlet Gensokyo also has that terrifying 'kill you when you least expecting it' because it relies on dodging a lot of red bullets while an occasional shower of fucking bubbles in close formation is rained down upon you. This might not be a problem to one who regularly plays EoSD but for one who's main focus is UFO and to a less extent MoF and SA, it makes the card a dreadful pain in the ass to play since this game is the only one that is special and has bigger bullets with the exact same sprite. But that was not really what i meant to say with this. I just wanted to make clear why I think it's harder than any of the more obvious candidates.
The hitboxes being different than in the rest of the series makes it a far bigger threat than pretty much anything in the later games. Finally, Vampire Illusion. Because anything that randomly throws a pseudo-wall in your face is pretty dangerous.

Any number of patterns in GFW if you're doing it no ice. Some just seem plain impossible.
Other than GFW, I'll go with LFS. This may be because my last experience of it was with ReimuB at 1 power and her terrible bomb, but the red phase is absolute murder if you can't clear it quickly. There's no trick to the pattern, and muscle memory doesn't help you if you don't go in with 4 power and semi-cheese it by directing it in a specific way.
Then again, a ton of patterns become pretty damn deadly if you don't go in at 4 power using the most powerful shot type.

I literally haven't touched EoSD since two summers ago, and probably never will again. Thus, I'll leave them out of this discussion. Similar story with Mokou's eighth nonspell.
Greatest Treasure, however... I've definitely played that enough to understand just how luckshit it really is. My highest capture rate at any one time was something like 25%, but most of the time it's less than 20%. The kicker is that it's stayed at that percentage for most of the attempts I've given it. A guy like me doesn't just plateau for that long on the average attack. Even though a bunch of other boss attacks are really hard, there's never any reason to think I still can't improve on those. I'm convinced that's not the case for Greatest Treasure.

Guse Flash took me over 100 attempts which makes it 10 times harder than all other lunatic spell cards and 2-5 times harder than the overdrive cards. It's definitely the hardest TD spellcard.

What? Miko's fifth card? That was probably the first TD Lunatic stage 5+ card I ever captured, and currently one of two cards of Miko's I'm consistent at (the other being her fourth card). Definitely easier than Iwafune, Avoidance of Defiance, etc., and that's just considering TD, where nothing other than Seiga's Overdrive took me more than 30 attempts (meanwhile, most of the other games have at least a few cards that I've never captured, except PCB which has the stage 6 stage portion).
As for the question asked, I don't really have an answer yet since I haven't put enough effort into capturing the harder cards.

Success against Guze Flash is mostly reliant on reading ability and reaction time to dickspeed bullets.
I'm used to such things, so I'm not very inclined to say Guze Flash.
Honestly, there aren't that many patterns that serve as a brick wall to me.
In recent memory, I can only really think of GFW!Marisa for giving me any large amount of trouble.

I'd have to agree: TAO Taidou ~Dao~ is a bitch. (At least it had an awesome, if slightly nonsensical, name). I'd be inclined to say some of the other Lunatic spells in the other games, but I'm not good enough to even unlock the bloody things.

Disregarding the boss, what is the best stage in any Touhou game?
I'm going with stage 5 from Mystic Square. Badass dodging the entire way except for minor streaming portions, and the entire time, if you die, it's your fault. Also, the background is amazing for PC98, and the Last Judgement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_2mj4M-Rmc) just caps it all off.

SA stage 4 is pretty interesting, with all the spreading amulets. It also seems to be the stage portion that I'm most likely to get clipped on, but there's still something I like about it. The music is good too.

UFO stage 5. easy as that. the beginning with the big fairies and popcorn fairies is fairly cool, the streaming section are hilriously bad, but that's what they've always been. nazrin is probably the one best midboss in the entire series (arguably) and post nazrin is awesome stuff to dodge.

These, along with SA stage 4 (and maybe PCB 4) were what I was thinking as well. All fun to play and great music, and PCB 5 gets the bonus of being fairly short as well.
There's also something pleasant about cancelling bullets and collecting heaps of point items in IN 3, but it's not as good as these.

They're all terrible EoSD Extra. And I'm surprising myself by saying this because it has always annoyed me. But in the end, that's a good thing. Are we supposed to disregard midboss too BTW?
EoSD Stage 4 books is the best single part of a stage though.

I'm thinking Stage 4 in UFO. It's almost exclusively about dodging and it can be quite fun especially in the bit near the end. It's about as good as it gets for Touhou. There are other fun stages out there like SA Stage 4 and PCB Stage 3 but they unfortunately have that 'becomes piss-easy when you learn them' quality to them. They are still fun though.

My answer on a purely pattern-based level would probably be PCB's stage 5. The stuff you're expected to do in that stage is fuck-all insane (Lunatic level, I mean) to me, which is why I find it more fun, than, say, grindy and repetitive (PCB 4 / EoSD 4) or boring and simple (IN 6 / MoF 6) or just like, one thing (TD 6 / PCB 6)

UFO stage 4. I love that really odd feeling of seeing a whole bunch of sky and open space for the first 3 levels, then suddenly you're inside a freaking boat and the music starts and it's so... alien from what you were used to in the first 3 stages. It's pretty much a completely different instrument set (or whatever you call it). It's a wonderfully placed and paced stage, and the fact the music syncs up with the entire stage is just plain awesome. Not to mention that the music is catchy as hell, and the danmaku is just so freaking fun to dodge if you so choose. It's also the only stage in the game where you can literally SPAM UFOs if you get the path down. It almost seems like there's never a point in the stage (save for Nue) when you can't spam UFOs, and if you don't spam them, then the stage becomes fun as hell random dodging. No memorization crap. It's just you, your eyes, your fingers, and tons of fun.

Stage 4 in most games is pretty good (except for the unfair streaming in MoF's Stage 4), but I guess I'd have to go with SA's. Weaving between the amulets is a pretty good challenge of how good you are at streaming in an environment as well as a test of how good you are at switching between unfocused and focused when necessary. And it's a godsend after the horror that is Stage 3. Those damn lasers...

I love SA stage 4 on normal, especially the laser patterns and sitting inside them for hundreds of graze (that lovely clicking...). I don't like it so much on hard though, their pattern isn't nearly as nice.
I also really like PCB 4, just to be a contrarian. I guess if I just wanted to practice the boss I'd get sick of its length, but it's so perfectly timed to the music, it's a nice experience on its own.

TD Stage 5... or PCB Stage 4. Both of their atmospheres are really well developed, even if PCB Stage 4 was pretty long. Both characterise the place you are in/at, which is really quite nice given that the amount of explanatory dialogue on where we are going is pretty much non-existant.

For me, the best candidate is Tewi's theme from Phantasmagoria of Flower View, Lord Usa's Elemental Flag. After nearly two years of barely acknowledging its existence, I gave it a random listen a few weeks ago and suddenly found it almost as catchy as U.N. Owen Was Her.

Gensoyko Millenium~ History of the Moon. Was not a fan at first, now I think it's awesome.
Suwa Foughten Field has also risen a lot, as has much of the UFO soundtrack, but I have to give the biggest one to Eirin's theme.

Hall of Dreams' Great Mausoleum and The Legend of the Great Gods. I hated, hated Legend of the Great Gods when I first saw a video of it, and used it as more proof that TD was evidence of ZUN not giving a fuck and duping people out of their money. His synthesizer work is really great though, especially in the combined version.

I don't think I have ever seriously disliked a theme (and much less later liked it), but I know I didn't care much about Hartmann's Youkai Girl, History of the Moon, Higan Retour, Reach for the Moon, Tomorrow Will Be Special and a load of others. Particularly the first three are among my favourites now.
Also Magus Night and Spring Lane, although they've risen rather recently (and aren't in my top spots yet) so I can't say much about them.
I guess THE top spot would be Higan Retour because I didn't remember about it at all for the longest time or something?

I can't think of a theme that I've ever outright hated. However, I didn't really like Orin's theme when I first heard it. Pretty much was like, "I like all SA songs...except for Orin's theme." (I think that's because I love her stage theme so much) But, it has grown on me over the months, and now I like it just as much as the other SA themes.

I used to not really care for most of EoSD's music, but after hearing certain other versions of it (T.Stebbins' IT IS SO of stage 1, Cytokine's Girl Meets Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSFNZTkS4jM) of Septette), have now come to like the originals. I used to extremely dislike Kyouko's theme. I don't know why, it just rubbed me the wrong way. It has also warmed up to me over the many times I've fought her.
Miko's theme always goes up and down for me. Must depend on what kind of mood I'm in.

It's weird, because it's the only final boss theme that I clearly prefer to the extra theme, and my third-favourite final boss theme in general (after the two IN ones). Overall, most final boss themes are just "good" for me, not really "great" like the extra themes usually are. Maybe I shold listen to Border of Life or Nuclear Fusion etc. more, although I will not like them more than Necrofantasia or Hartmann's Youkai Girl.

Phantom Ensemble used to be my favourite theme (from when I had just played PCB and later IN, mind you), but for some reason it has lost its magic a rather long while ago. The calm parts are actually really beautiful, but they don't really connect anymore. Same for the characters themselves, actually (can we do that one next?).

Things that went from dislike to like: Most of PoFV's original songs. In particular, I found that Reimu's theme is very nice when you're lying on a hammock on a summer afternoon, though I don't like it in-game. Some of IN's soundtrack has grown on me as well.

I generally don't start disliking things once I like them, and I don't consider the usual boredom that comes from hearing a song too many times as dislike. The only exceptions are things that sort of "wow" me the moment I hear them, get me very addicted, then become completely uninteresting once I know which notes are coming, etc. A lot of Metallica's guitar solo's (or metal guitar solo's in general, really) tend to have this quality. Non-melodic super fast stuff.
I feel like I should draw some parallel between music and shooting games now, but I won't.

The only thing I can think of is the PoFV remix of Cirno's theme. Not that I hate it or anything, but initially I considered it to be superior to the original, whereas now I think it's slightly worse.

Dislike to like: Heian Alien is probably the biggest one. I thought it sounded like crap when I first heard it, then I warmed up to the chime section, then I warmed up to everything else, and I'd say it's my 2nd favourite extra boss theme now.
I'd really go with a lot of stuff though. I discovered Touhou through the BGM, and when I did that I listened to tons of stuff I didn't like. Then I started hearing the themes in the games, and a lot of stuff that didn't thrill me at first (History of the Moon, Hiroari, Green-eyed Jealousy to name a few) started to sound a lot better.
Like to dislike: I can't stand a lot of PC98 stuff outside of the game itself, all three of MS Stage 4 boss themes probably being the best examples. No idea why, I just don't like them anymore.
Other than that, not much. I know there are a lot of themes I used to love but now feel pretty meh about (Centennial Festival, Nuclear Fusion, Immortal Smoke) but I wouldn't say I dislike them.
Special mention to Luna Dial. Went from great in my "EoSD is awesome because it's the only one I've played" phase, to crap in my "EoSD sucks because it's too popular" phase, to above average in whatever phase I am now. <_<

Nostalgic Blood of the East ~ Old World (IN stage 3) used to be my favorite song in the whole series, and I'd just listen to it on its own all the time. I don't dislike it now, but I'm fairly indifferent. It's good in-game, but IN music as a whole I have a hard time enjoying on its own without the game running.

Though it's mostly the blaring synthesizer or whatever that is. The strings/piano parts are alright.

Dislike to like: Hearing with a headphone of good quality makes me love a lot of songs --- I love Ran's theme once I hear the percussion in the background.
Like to dislike: IN soundtrack in general, it changes from not bad to meh, sort of the reason why I rarely play it.
Some songs are in hybrid of like and dislike, for example I really like the climax of Last Remote but not the main part. I like MoF soundtrack a lot in general, but stage 1 theme has one phrase that I really hate while I love other phrases a lot.

Awful theme. Shameful that I ever liked it. Take a line from Luna Dial and try to make an entire track out of it, sapping all the goodness from it and attempting to beat the listener into submission with mindless, annoying repetition.
It's a posterchild for the worst of Zun's compositional laziness.

Pretty much most of the EoSD theme songs... Once they're played over and over again like Christmas songs played near Christmas season, I would grow tired of some of them. I think that was especially the case for Shanghai of Meiji 17 - like, it was once one of my most favorite theme songs and now it's gotten to one of my least favorite.

IN's soundtrack is good... don't get the hate on it.
There are good tracks in it, sure. But there are also (at least) three tracks that are ripped straight from other games (st4 boss themes, credits theme) with the only potentially positive change being re-instrumentation, and it's debatable if that's a positive. And Wriggle's theme has less than two bars of writing for a minute-long track, which makes it painful to suffer through the boss and which maks it my pick for the worst of the worst among Zun's compositions. Then, some of the otherwise good tracks, like Cinderella Cage, drag on so long that they become annoyingly repetitive. With that one, it'd be better if a minute were chopped off and the track looped in-game. Finally, IN's trumpet sound is the worst the entire series (which is really saying something), and it's in nearly every track.
None of that damns the entire soundtrack, but altogether it does makes it comparatively weak. And yeah, I wouldn't want to do without Eastern Night and Voyage 1969, so I'm certainly not hating on the entire thing.

For me, it's quite a lot of songs to be honest. A lot of them have really lost their charm over the years though I don't wish to explain that as simply having listened to them too much rather than me developing a different taste in music as time has passed.
I used to be a big fan of ZUN's music. As in, all of it. Nowadays I still regard him as a damn good composer but his style of music only really works with the games unlike other sort of game soundtracks that I can put on even when I'm not doing anything in particular. Though, I still enjoy a large amount of ZUN's music while actually playing the games, there are quite a few songs I just don't like anymore.
Most of the time, it's when that awful ZUNpet is involved. Some people likes it but I just find it really obnoxious to listen to and it to be quite sad when otherwise good songs are almost ruined by it. There are also other cases of ZUN music I have grown to dislike. Mostly stuff from the pre-MoF days. I still find many pieces from IN and PCB to be quite good though.
Time to call out some names:
UN Owen was Her. I used to like this one a lot. For some reason. I cannot explain. It's just annoying now.
Necrofantasia. Stop screaming into my ears ZUN.
That song that plays during 80% Reflowering. This song was a lot better back when actually capturing that spell was something that was hard to do. That is to say, a long time ago. The song is great if it accompanies the tension of almost getting a very good run or having a hard time dodging every single wave but when those aren't the case it's just either needlessly loud and trumpet fixated or just annoying in the event you actually fail it.
Almost the entire EoSD soundtrack deserves a mention though I still enjoy Tomboyish Daugther, whatever Sakuya calls her and Septette for the Big Hitboxes. Rest of the soundtrack is pretty blegh for me though. Especially anything Hong related. And Stage 4.

Hm stuff I used to like then dislike... I think a lot of songs also fall into this category, so to list a few:
-Sakuya's EoSD theme because while it seemed cool at first, it's just so sorely out of place and sticks out like a pound of lead in a haystack. And not just with regard to the EoSD soundtrack either.
-Capital City of Flowers in the Sky (PCB stage 4 theme). I think this is partly just because I despise the stage so much, but every single time I listen to it I feel as though it's a missed opportunity to make something truly grand. After I heard TD's stage 5 theme the feeling got even worse.
-Ghost Lead. I find it rather obnoxious now. In fact I find the stage music rather annoying as well.
-Magus Night. Another case of "sounded cool, but seems rather boring on repeat listens. It definitely evokes a very "Marisa" feeling though, if that makes sense.
-Seiga's theme. Whatever those trumpet sounds are, my ears don't like them the more I listen to them. It's a shame too because the song itself isn't that bad.
As for IN's soundtrack, I don't think it's particularly better or worse off than other games. It is, like most games, a mixed bag. I do love the different style ZUN went for in the game though, but that also makes the entire thing suffer from a... muted sound? I'm not sure, but I always felt the whole thing suffered from audio issues or something, which has consistently annoyed me.

Positively:
Koishi used to be one of the only characters I actually rather disliked because I found the whole "no mind" deal rather creepy and depressing. Now she's pretty much one of the most interesting characters (exactly due to that), and she's quite cute. Gotta admit that's a bit of flandreflanderisation because it's more of a "look, so adorable!" deal rather than a "look, so scary!" one.
I remember doing one of those touhou chars sorting lists a while ago, where Koishi scored #38 at first. A few weeks later, she suddenly jumped to #2 and is pretty much #1 now in my books.
Mokou is a distant second place, I didn't care about her much at all when I first learnt about her or even when I met her in-game, because IN was just that rather boring game with rather boring characters at that time. But then eventually she sorta replaced Koishi as my depressing character, what with her becoming immortal and facing a fate worse than death. Contrary to what my avatar might imply, she's not my favourite or second-favourite, but she should be around #5 or #6 and is a cool character overall.
The world needs more Mokou x Koishi.
Negatively:
I haven't exactly grown to hate or even dislike them, but the Prismriver Sisters aren't really anything more than "nice" to me. My first impression was that wonderful theme they had, that really difficult battle (at that time), and I swear when I first saw Lunasa I thought she had no arms (the artwork cut off, and her sprite had them really close to her body), so I found that a tad creepy as well (plus that stern stare; she's a poltergeist after all). Now they've just been replaced by other characters as I started playing more games, and the three are hard to separate, so you can't even do very much with them (they were in PoFV, which I found awesome, but then they were among the few characters not to be featured in StB, and after PMiSS, ZUN forgot all about them). Compare to Youmu and Yuyuko, who became mainstays through IN, TD, the fighters, you name it. Note that this doesn't mean I don't like the Prisms anymore, they're just only a bit above average (Lunasa and Lyrica, that is, Merlin has never been that interesting to me).
BT earlier asked whether there was a correlation between them and their theme. I guess so, as when I lost interest with the theme, the same happened for the characters, and both really have been replaced as I played more games with more music and girls.
Then there's Nitori, who was my favourite MoF character when I first played that game, because she was cute. But that's all there really is to her. She's cute. My interest in her waned rather soon. And then there's that questionable SoPM article (although SoPM in general is rather questionable).

Hmmm when I started to play touhou I was used to dislike every 4/5th stage subboss, so I didn't like Lily White and Tewi, but knowing more about the canon/fanon story now I like Tewi. However I still disliking Lily White, she sucks and will suck forever :P
And I think that there isn't any character that I was used to have interest on it but lost it.

Nue: I have no idea why, but Nue has jumped into my top ten (currently seated at 6). I think it's because she is a pretty interesting character to me. She can be portrayed as serious, mysterious, complete trickster, and cute. It all works. Also, I've really started to love her design. I never hated it, but I was just kinda indifferent to it.
Byakuren: Used to hate her. Thought she was uninteresting. Then I sat down and actually looked into her character and came to the conclusion that she is one of the most noble characters in the whole series. Her backstory helped as well.
Negative
Kanako: Holy shit, do I hate Kanako now. I used to be pretty OK with her, didn't like or hate her, but now I think she is now the number one character that I despise. I think it's because I read "Utsuho of the Void" and I realized what a horrible person...god(?) Kanako is. She is so unapologetic about everything she's ever done. I know she doesn't want to disappear from lack of faith, but she doesn't have to be a complete bitch about it.

Positive? In contrast to the post above, Kanako. I first encountered her when I didn't care the least bit about the backstory, so my initial impression was along the lines of "look at this ridiculous drawing... and what a mediocre theme song... meh". Afterwards I found out she's a scheming goddes of wind and rain (exactly my favourite weather!) as well as a proponent of scientific progress, which was enough to instantly make her one of my favourite characters.
Negative? Probably Komachi. One year earlier, when my knowledge of Touhou was pretty much limited to music arranges and Touhou Soccer videos, I was for some reason so impressed by Komachi that I even christened my then-new laptop after her. About one month later, after I actually started playing the games, I renamed the laptop to Patchouli, completely puzzled by my previous decision. I guess this thing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRYGM9xNHZU) was the whole reason behind it.

Probably not that many because my most favorite character list has stayed rigidly the same since I started playing Touhou (save for rare exceptions). However, if I have to pick a character that I changed my opinion on the most positively then it would be:
Eiki: Srsly she didn't really change that much in my favorite Touhou list - maybe like top 30 to top 15? And that's probably the case where the change was the 'most positive'. Acen 15 Touhou panel had to do with it.
honorable mentions to Momiji and Koishi. All these characters rank somewhere in the top 30 region in my most recent touhou sorter results.
Negatively
Got so many dramatic changes going on here, on the other hand:
Reimu: Used to be one of my most favorites, bar the top 6 most favorite I already discussed here (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,13819.msg921669.html#msg921669). Now she's placing like third from last place. Srry Haku and all other Reimu fans! No hard feelings on you all but it just came to that way because of err... her characterization in some ways. It kinda clashes with Yukari's characterization in some ways that I don't seem to like that much.
Aya: Same with Reimu, only that she dropped to the last place (again, srry Ammy and all other Aya fans! No hard feelings!) I blame the fanon for ruining my impression on her :V
Rumia and Mystia: Was a close tie with Reimu here. After accidentally being shown some really really bad depictions of her I can't unsee what I've already seen :(
honorable mentions here would include Wriggle, Cirno, and Renko Usami... for various reasons. All these characters mentioned above rank somewhere in the triple digit region in my touhou sorter results...
Funny thing, Reimu and Aya are actually considered for my next cosplays, and I'm actually putting in a lot of efforts into them.
In the end I guess I like all Touhous, but the division between the characters 'I like' and characters 'I like more' seem to be quite extreme.

I used to really like Sakuya. She's a great Stage 5 boss, yeah, but now she just seems incredibly bland and cliche to me. And most of her shot types in other games kinda suck (with the exception of PCB SakuyaB).

positively: Alice. I don't even know why. I used to not like her all that much (she was what, in the 80s when I last used that touhou sorter) and now, did it 3 days ago.
she was in the single digits. man, I really don't know how that happened.
negatively: everyone from PCB excluding Chen and Youmu. ...and alice xD
especially yukari and yuyuko fell. use to be single digits, now they're in the 30s and 40 respectively. I blame their terrible music :V once again, I really can't put my finger on it why.

Anyways... I'm not the biggest guy for either being a huge fanboy of fictional characters, or being a sworn enemy of fictional characters, but if I had to pick one... I guess I'll go with Patchouli. In a positive way. At first she struck me as a random bookworm with a weird design, meh theme, and the personality of cardboard. But then I realized she has the coolest shot-type in SA, cool spellcards, the coolest playstyle in IaMP (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn2T-gP4I_Y") (this is the biggest one), map rap skills (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAQ3Wk59zoM"), etc.
Shikieiki gets an honorable mention because she just seemed like someone who is overly critical and needs to take it easy. But then, when I was playing through PoFV with each shot-type, I suddenly found myself eagerly anticipating the next fatal flaw that Eiki will criticize for the next character - like the Touhou version of the latest celebrity scandal! And I'm not even into that stuff in real life. In addition, I thought her theme was meh at first and it grew a lot on me, so that's part of it, too.

To me it's quite hard to answer a question like this one. Mainly because... how am I supposed to know these characters? There has been less than a 2 minute conversation with each of them before fighting them and that's all I know. Going to the wiki to read up on some background story certainly helps painting a bit more of a picture but it's still quite limited so you kinda have to fill in the blanks yourself and at that point the question turns into whether or not I like or dislike the character that I've partially written myself.
It can therefore easily just boil down to 'who are the most sexy characters' or 'who are the funnest to fight' which are two reasons that explain basically the entirity of my Top 10 characters. But ehh... even within those less about the character and more about the... well meat for lack of a better word.
Positive changes: I haven't always been as fond of Shou as I am nowadays. But as things developed and I become a stronger player, i began to better appreciate Shou. So I started reading into her character, what little information on that you can actually find, and was quite pleased with most of my findings so she quickly grow to share my favorite character spot with Kogasa. And yep, it's possible to have two top favorite characters when they both fill out two vastly different needs.
Negative changes: Usually when I start liking something/one it doesn't change too much but I'll definitely have to say that a lot of the older characters have moved quite a few spots down but it's not like I've started to hate any character since hating characters tend not to be something I do kinda how I in real life don't really hate other people either unless they are actively working on fucking up my life so... yeah. No picks here I guess. Can't really think of any.

Positively: Kanako. When I first went through the later games, I thought that she wasn't nice because she seemed very self-entitled, trying to steal faith, causing a certain bird to go mad with power, etc. But when I looked further into it, she was really just doing it to improve the quality of life in Gensokyo, which is quite a.. nice thing to do. She just did it with the air of a twat.
I've never really disliked a character, they all seem to have respectable, or unfortunate reasons for what they do, and nothing most of them do even does any harm.
Additionally, I have to agree with Zengeku. I don't understand how people can create complex characters in fan fiction because there is literally nothing to go on, bar how they look, what few lines they say in the games and their backstories. I have though, thought that this is the reason there is so much fan fiction for Touhou. Because the characters are so flat, it means authors can write any genre, with any theme, with anything going on.

I think the only person who I've changed my opinion on is Utsuho. I first hated her for the fact that she wanted to nuke Gensokyo and rule it blah blah blah...
Then I realized that she is actually pretty nice.

Though I agree with Yatakarasu. I HATE Kanako. No matter how much good she's tried to do, she's always had that underlying reason of doing it just to gather faith. Plus all of her plans have just managed to spark a religious conflict. Gee, thanks Kanako! I really appreciate the fact that Gensokyo is going to descend into religious war soon enough because of you! :V

Most positive: Fairy Wars - Found it quite boring at first, but after the Nitori's challenge at HME earlier this year, I have a newfound appreciation for the game :)
Honorable mention to LLS and MS: PC98 games are just fun to play with XD
Most Negative: EoSD - After having played Touhou from TH10 and afterwards, I grew somewhat tired with some of the older games. EoSD is where this effect took place the sharpest. Still, when I get to play it once in a while, I appreciate ZUN's old art style, and the game still reminds me of the PC98 style games lol

I used to not like MoF much at all. it seemed like something really average and I used to loathe UFO. I was one of these "it's too hard, it sucks" people. yes, shame on me. now they're my favorites.
don't misunderstand. IN is still good. spell practice and last words and stuff are awesome. it's just that I used to like it a lot lot more than I do today. I still play it with joy, but not as much as back then.
PCB turned from super awesome to pretty damn underwhelming. Youmu is still my 2nd favorite in the series and verything, but with a few exceptions, the boss fights in particular are pretty darn...how do I say? not as exciting.
the stages are boring, really. Stage 3 is cool and stage 6 spam is, but...well, that's about it, I suppose.

Well, SA used to be my favorite. Now I can't stand it. The same more or less applies to MoF and UFO as well. They just seem bland and empty to me.
The positive pick is a bit harder. I can't really say PoDD seeing as I've always liked it. Same for PoFV, GFW, etc. I think my choice here is PCB. There was time when I would have called it the worst game in the series. Now I've seen the beauty of the scoring. If I ever start playing the (non-funky) Windows games again, then it'll probably be PCB scoring.

Positive: The Phantasmagoria games, FW (slightly)
Negative: IN (slightly), SA, TD (slightly), the photography games.
I loved IN at first, but I'm not as into it. I was really into finishing Double Spoiler (read: unlock and beat the Spoiler Stage), but those days are long gone. SA for the fact that I've repeatedly failed to 1cc Normal with any Marisa shottype (though I should really give it another shot). I don't really hate any games, but there are some I'm just not into as much.
On the bright side, I'm warming up to the Phantasmagorias, which were kind of weird to play at first but turned out to be decent games.

Wow there Sakurei... that is almost copy-pasted from my mind... except the MoF part that I always enjoyed but nowadays actually enjoy somewhat less. It's still good, it's just so damn easy most of the time that it fails to hold my attention for very long. :(
Also, I thought GFW was really awful when it was first released. I didn't like how you had to rely on the ice to get through most of the patterns and how impossible everything felt. Now most of the stuff still feels pretty impossible but it's like a Touhou-version of DoDonPachi Daifukkatsu except only 1/4th as long, with a way worse score system and no loops. The game has definitely grown on me to the point where I say things like GFW has some of the most fun stages in Touhou and I feel that the style of patterns used is something I'd love to see in a main entry of the Touhou series... just toned down a bit of course.

The fighting games, I remember when I was not a touhou-fan yet, I saw someone playing one Touhou fighting-game and I thought "Blah it's boring, just a game of hadoukens, its better to play Tekken" or something like. Today I like more these fighting games. Maybe in that time I was in the 3D fighting game mood :P
And about the "normal" touhou games I always liked all of them since the first time that I played them.

EoSD, so much. I used to find it average, but now it looks like it has everything I like in it (except Extra Stage, which is a bit meh).
PCB, slightly. I used to loathe it, now I find it quite good, and border system is interesting.
TD : way more fun when you learn to use trance as it should be.
Would have put SA here, if stage 3 weren't as it is.
Negative :
IN : too much memo.
MoF : because nothing outstanding (stage 4 is cool though).
DS : fun at first. Not anymore (also, too hard for me).

TD becomes more fun when you learn to use trance correctly? Funny, I find that using trance at all takes every bit of fun out of the game. Maybe if you were vulnerable it wouldn't be quite as bad of a design decision, but eh. Anyways I'd have to say that TD is one of my favorite in the series to no-bomb (which is kind of becoming my thing) next to MoF and UFO. That's something.

For games that changed negatively? PCB, PCB, PCB. I still respect scoring in it a lot, but it's one of the kind of games where you can have so many lives and bombs that there's very little sense of risk and you can just sleepwalk through the stages. You can't even do a no-bomb run of it because you'll end up abusing border breaks (and if you decide to do NBNBB get ready for a lot of restarts :V ). I'm also not terribly fond of EoSD because the stages are boring even for Touhou games. Sakuya and Remi almost make up for it. Almost.

Positively, IaMP, because when played competitively, that game is friggin beast and quite well-balanced. It's the only fighting game I've ever been interested in getting into competitively outside of Smash, so that's something.
Negatively I don't feel like answering.

positive: the Phantasmagoria games. I never disliked them, but I didn't really even consider them as legit single player games until I started playing them on lunatic which made me change my opinions on them completely. There's nothing as awesome as fighting Shikieiki.
negative: SA, for one. You stream/cheese most of it. The game rewards you for bomb spamming and there's hardly anything fun to dodge in it. To think that it was for a short period my favourite game in the series... IN is the other one, I think it's quite a decent game in some ways, but the boss patterns are no fun.

Most positively: UFO. I was also one of those "what the hell this game is so hard and boring and stage 1 is such a chore" kind of people. Now it's probably my favorite game to play just to relax. The absolutely amazingly fun Extra stage and boss battle is a huge plus too.
Most negatively: EoSD. It used to be my favorite game when I played on Normal/Hard. Now I can't stand it. The stages are just so boring compared to ones later in the series, and the boss fights just seem so... unbalanced in difficulty. Then again at this point I'm mostly only playing MoF and later games, so I think it's just a matter of ZUN getting a tad more consistent at making good stages/bosses.

I remember that people used to call it No-Intentional border breaks so if they break a border then that's just that but they don't do it intentionally with the intent of abusing the system. That would probably be the approach I'd use too.

Currently I don't have one but formerly it was Youmu's "Dance of Angels". Back when I was still horribly noobish at these fighting spin-off games I used to suck at playing with Remilia and found it pretty difficult to beat Youmu in Remilia's story mode. Naturally her first spell card was the most annoying for me lol

Changed opinion - Negatively, IaMP. Used to love the game, but after a while it just became frustrating and made me angry whenever I played it, so I started playing less and eventually just stopped altogether. Positively, LLS. Absolutely love it. The approachable scoring system really drew me in, since it's more about consistency than absurd precision and timing. PCB is a close second. I don't like it enough to get super serious with it, but it's my favorite for casual playing now. It's a really well designed game, so I don't really get tired of it if I play it a lot.
Annoying SWR spells - Tenshi final by far. Supposedly it's easy but I don't really get it, and once it hits me once it starts to totally destroy me.

Which spell card do you consider to be your personal nemesis in Touhou?
Hopefully I'm not repeating past questions too much. A slight variation on the "hardest Touhou spell card" question, but this time it's personal. Not necessarily the objectively hardest one, just the one which simply won't stop killing you and wrecking your runs (and mood).
As a relatively new and inexperienced player, I'm especially emotional about Normal level cards. I can think of two candidates and, ironically, both happen to be from the easiest Windows game, Imperishable Night: Apollo 13 and Milky Way. At least in the latter case I managed to get my revenge by timing it out, but I'm still not consistent with that spell card, not to mention Asteroid Belt (horrors...). As for Apollo 13, I simply cannot find a way to handle it at all, as my shameful spell practice history of 12/74 proves. Both have given me probably more grief than all other spell cards combined, excluding maybe Youmu's spells.

Any survival card ever (only exception being Youkai Polygraph). I'm serious. These are the reason I basically need to no-deaths Extra stages up until said survival, just to blow all of my resources to get through it. And the reason why I haven't no-bombed PCB Extra.
Also, Marionette, which used to take two lives in my normal no-bombs attempts.

- Dipper Creeping Close. I hear it's pathetically easy but I don't want to go back and practice it because it's at the end of a long stage, and if I keep failing it I'll be even more pissed at myself. Plus it freaks me out in a way almost nothing else in Touhou does. If I attempt LNBNUFO this will be my undoing.
- Iwafune Ascending to Heaven. Despite 55 captures in Spell Practice and many "aha" moments, it all comes down to whether Futo decides to go mid-screen like a bitch and force me to kefitdodge in the corner. LNBNT runs come down to doing the part before Futo successfully, and then capturing this. Aaaargh.
- King Kraken Strike. Screenshake? Giant fists blocking my view of bullets? Ichirin moving all around the screen so by the time I force my way to one side she's already moved back? Maybe I suck at it but I fucking loathe this attack.

There are many cards that will fill me with grief. In many cases though it's a case of inexperience with the pattern. Some cards though remain really hard to make it past without dying or bombing so here goes:
- Peerless Wind God: Ugh... so much misery. It's really hard and for both the survival and scoring wise things I'd like to do sometime down the line, the mere existence of this pattern slaps me in the face but it's just a hard card and I capture it every now and then but it's not all the time so it's a fucking problem and one of the only things in MoF that genuinely gives me real trouble.
- Source of Rains: This one isn't particularly hard but for some reason I find myself clipping arrowheads of all things while restreaming. It's something that really shouldn't mess me up but still does from time to time. That and the fact that I hate it's very existence. That makes it enough of a nemesis on its own.
- Greatest Treasure: Need not say anything. Basically same deal as PWG but with AB bullets making for the ultimate bag of NBNUFO destroying fun.
- Good Omen: Cocks. Moving on.
- Devil's Recitation: I don't get why this is so difficult. I have literally no excuse to be so bad at this one but alas I am and it's along with Good Omen one of the only Byakuren attacks I genuinely fear.
So these are five picks that stand out the most in my brain. There are many more though because I suck at shmups.

for extras, there's always that one spell that costs me a ton of resources and is really really annoying to pass - read: fuji, kokkuri-san (and yukari's version), GENETICS, stupid miko (and several others of her spells) -, but those are at least legit. karakasa's surprise flash, however, is just spamming those luck-based insta-materialise-and-kill bullshit lottery lasers that i cannot stand. maybe if i figure out the trick to it, i will learn to tolerate it but atm it just screws me over in ridiculous ways. it also happens to randomly have bomb armour or something so i can't even instabomb it and be done with it grrraah.
as for the main game spells, vajra hates me and i hate it. most stage 5 spells are quite legit and i give an earnest try to capture them (needle mountain is hard at balls, but it's quite fun once you manage to capture it), but vajra is really just a giant middle finger. at least a bomb will do away with it!
a lot of the UFO (and SA and TD) glowshit spells also qualify for their clipping tendencies.

-Sylphae Horn High Level. I just can't do it. To me it's actually the hardest mode in Hard mode. I pretty much NEVER capture it on Hard or above. I actually have a better record on Scarlet Meister, Scarlet Gensokyo, Killing Doll, etc. than this card. And it's stage 4. Why.
-Kokkuri-san's Contract. I don't know why, but I am just so bad at it when I shouldn't be. I'm pretty sure it's not even supposed to be hard. What's more, I used to be not that bad at it, but I, like, got worse at it. wtf mate. 0/10 record on it.
-Apollo 13 because my brain just doesn't understand it on any difficulty, even easy. I pretty much just flail wildly and hope I survive. eff you bro
-The Grand Phantom of Guignol, just because it's my least favorite card of all time. It's the embodiment of memotrash.

Personal nemesis? I have many.
-Kokuri-san's Contract and Yukari's version: It's so simple, but I clip stuff so often. It's pretty sad how much I tense up when I get here.
-Mamizou's regular version of Wild Carpet: See above.
-Tongling Yoshika: This becomes near impossible to do at below 3 power, which really irks me. It's not that you have to dodge the same pattern for longer, no, you have to dodge a progressively harder pattern all over the god damn screen.
-King Kraken Strike: This should be really simple, but I'm terrible at it.
-Devil's Recitation: I really fear clipping stuff before the blue waves start to come out. It scares me so bad that I pretty much always clip something.
-Cat's Walk: Orin!!!! How am I supposed to read those criss-crossing bullets?
-Needles of Yore: ORRINNNN!!! Clip, clip, clip.
-IN Stage 3, Stage 4 and Stage 6A and B: This game has my hate for having the absolute worst bullet hitboxes ever. I swear that the amulets have the hitbox of a popcorn bullet, star hitboxes aren't star shaped, rice bullets aren't oblong, and everything is cluttered so close together that I can't SEE anything. It's not intuitive and I hate it because it takes me a lot longer to get used to the specific bullet quirks than in other games. Also, I hate how many of Keine's cards are pure memotrash, and the two(?) that aren't memotrash are stupid.

TBF it's not a BAD card (hello Hello Forgotten World) but its awkward movement [to me] and the big hitboxes [to me] are a huge "lol sorry not gonna happen" [to me].
There's also Murasa's survival card for Easiest Card That Pressures Me The Most.
