Title: Double Spoiler: speedrunning individual scenes (DSDQ video on Youtube!!!)
Post by: I have no name on May 02, 2012, 07:21:34 AM
Third edit:
DSDQ VIDEO HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TGRj4zFCqA)

Second edit:
Thanks to all who participated in this process, I'll be handling the administrative parts and recording it and you can expect a DSDQ video up by the end of the summer.  You guys are awesome, getting the total time for all 108 scenes down to under 46 minutes-an average of 25.56 seconds per scene.

First edit:
Alright, now that all 108 are done, here's what I need from the contributors (this can be PMed, but I need it before submission):
How you want to be referred to on SDA: The standard is first name "username" last name, but the real name is optional.  keep this PG-13 guys.
Comments on the table as a whole (optional): this can be literally whatever, from comments on favorite ILs to sometihng completely unrelated.

Remember, you are all the man [/SDA-ism]

Original post:
So, it's an idea I've been bouncing around for a while, and since the school year is over for me, I've decided to go ahead with it.  You may or may not know this, but I'm a pretty active member over at speeddemosarchive.com, and I've decided I want to work on an IL (individual level) table for Double Spoiler to submit.  The thing is, I know that someone will almost definitely be able to do it better, and I want it to be the best it can be.  So, I was hoping to garner enough interest between here and there to, between the forums, complete a submittable table.  Every scene must be completed, using Aya (or Hatate, but that'd be a separate category outside of SP5-9), as quickly as humanly possible.  So, what I need anyone who's interested in helping out with this to do is make a replay of yourself doing any scene in the game as fast as you can.  Then you post it here or link to it, and I can compile them into a folder.  I will be tracking current bests in the second post.

Just so you know, IL tables on SDA are often filled by multiple people, so  yes, you will be credited for the work you put in.  A short comment on each scene (perhaps attempt count, strategy discovery or the like) would be appreciated but it's not required.

So, who's with me in this undertaking?!

EXAMPLE SUBMISSION (this is also a real one from me)

The strategy on this one is a little annoying as the first and third photos are luck.  Lost a half a second by trying to jump the gun on the last photo.

First capture, only 1 defensive shot taken.  Maybe doable without any?

Well this will be a good excuse to redo all of the DS scenes, since most of my data vanished a while ago.

As it happens, I still have all of the replays from stage 7 and up, so I can just throw them all together I suppose. Maybe some will turn out to be fast. (And hopefully I attached them correctly.)

I'm not sure if the names of the replays are at all helpful, but they should be in the right order at least.

1-2, 76.28
Lots of camera lag today,  it's all below 5% though.
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20662

1-3, 75.88
Not much strategy to talk about here
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20663

1-4, 85.42
Only vertical movement required
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20664

2-2, 70.20
Time your shots for when Hina comes around
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20665

2-4, 99.03
Hina goes offscreen at a bad time, and there's nothing you can do about it. Or is there?
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20666

3-3, 99.15
This one needs good timing, trying to be as fast as possible seems to be a bad idea here, wait for a fraction of a second to get more kunai for faster camera recharge instead.
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20667

3-4, 95.03
I was trying to do it from the top of the screen for instant shots at first, but it was too hard to get into, should be easy to improve.
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20668

3-5, 94.84
Moving through the rainbow to show off, but it's not a great time I think.
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20669

3-7, 103.76
This one is just random.
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20677

3-8, 95.45
I could have been more trigger happy I guess.
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20678

4-4, 62.17
A normal clear, without caring for score. Momiji wants to snuggle.
Replay - http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20679

5-6, 94.60
It doesn't look like you can shoot Murasa at the very first wave of the second cycle, so there's no rush during the first cycle.

I'll try to make my posts shorter, sorry for the double post.
Attached a zip contains replays of 5-4, 6-7, 7-4, 8-8, 9-5 and 12-1
Filenames state the scene number and time left.

5-4, 94.72 Went out of charging too soon for the last shot, but it was pretty good attempt overall.
6-7, 97.73 This scene is just silly.
7-4 89.99 I managed to get two shots off during the first cycle once.. but the second missed Nazrin. I'm satisfied with this strategy though, it's a fair bit faster than the normal way.
8-8, 91.29 Not the best time, can be improved. I like the strategy though.
9-5. 102.38 No missed shots and no screen warping is good.
12-1, 175.63 This scene is also silly, could have been faster.

So I did it in 97.75. (Yes I beat you by 1 frame)  :V

Ok, please no emoticons in the comments guys.  it makes re-formatting them a pain, and updating the table is already a time-consuming, sort of tedious task.

@Ridley, very nice optimizations.

The fourth and fifth shots are slightly tricky since Minoriko is just out of reach. Entering the very edge of the bullets is needed to take those shots quickly. Sub-97 should be doable.
Replay: http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20684

1-4, 85.48 remaining
This one depends a lot on Minoriko's random movements. I captured almost all of the red bullets on the first shot and captured all of the red bullets as they spawned on the second shot.
Replay: http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20685

1-5, 70.05 remaining
Sub-70 BV A lot of luck involved since double focus makes it hard to dodge all the bullets. I realized it was helpful or even necessary to stay close to Shizuha so that I could capture more bullets and thus charge faster.

It's even funnier because this isn't optimal. Proof being that I took pictures so fast one time I literally went ahead of the pattern and died due to the superfast stuff. Yeeeaaaaaaah.

e: Trying to improve this, I just did 98:00 again. Twice. In a row. That makes it three times and no improvement. :(

Goddammit I keep going too fast.

An improvement is definitely humanly possible because it is humanly possible to fluke your way through the superfast stuff.

It happened once. Which is enough to prove that it can happen five times.

Jesus christ.

It only needs to happen 4 at most.

Keep posting improvements and new times, I'll update the table either around midnight or tomorrow morning.

2-1: 99.49 s
I was delayed a bit by the micro-dodging before the second shot, so there's room for improvement here.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20697

2-3: 90.32 s
This one isn't too speed-friendly. I waited to take the third shot so I could cancel some hearts. A faster run would have a bit more dodging to do.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20698

2-4: 99.15 s
Have to get lucky with how the bullets form. Staying in the middle makes it easier to catch Hina when she's on the sides.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20699

2-5: 100.45 s
The third shot is probably the hardest. Changing direction midway through the bullets helps.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20700

2-6: 100.22 s
This one really punishes speed. The blue bullets are aimed in some way, but I'm not sure if there is always a bullet aimed directly at your hitbox or not. I eventually found that you could tap your way through the blue waves, but it's hard to do 2.5 times in a row.

Scoring this and speedrunning it are very different, though both are very dependent on luck. In this case, hope she doesn't force you to unfocus.

I mistakenly named the replay 9-1, but it's 9-3. I like how the uploader is full of DS replays.

Better than my old replay. This is the kind of spell you can do by standing completely still and hoping nothing hits you as you take pictures as quickly as possible. I didn't do that, of course.

Going through stone buddies like they were no thing.

Their hotboxes actually make this deceptively tight. Not to mention, the bullets that spawn from beneath can potentially box you in if you're not careful.

Survival wasn't a trivial thing so some of my shots weren't lightning-fast, meaning this can be improved.

I feel like an ass doing this but

Chalros EX-6 147.59 remaining (http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20770)

I took 1 defensive shot as well but I guess it came out a tenth of a second faster at the end. I definitely think it can be done without one but its very luck-based and since the Z key just popped off of my laptop today I wont be throwing runs away for nothing until I find a way to fix it (I can still use it some but the actual button part is about to come off so I need to be careful for the sake of playing other Touhous and other games). God I can't wait til I can get a new computer... must remember to backup all Touhou game data and stuff.

Also
SP-5 19.54 (http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20773) remaining

Couldn't get SP-1 though :P

Also I was trying  12-2 "Purple Mirror" (inspired by No name's post in another thread) and got this one where I missed the final shot because panic but I figured I'd throw it out there for people to look at the strat. Not completely sure if it would shave anything off so it might not be worth trying but w/e. My final shot began within a tenth of a second from the replay that No name has currently but I'm sure it can be refined by someone better than me.

Title: Re: Double Spoiler: speedrunning individual scenes

I think it's faster (and safer) to go above for the last shot, and that was otherwise the same as IHNN's. About 2 seconds ellapse after you take the final shot in any given scene, so you'd have to take a picture at ~183 to get a better time. (It's pretty damn optimal as it is).

EDIT:

I'm sorry, what?
Chalros EX-6 147.59 remaining (http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20770)
147 left is a crap time you know, I posted a 173.  Was this a typo?  Checked the replay (more work for me, yay) and it's actually 173.59.  Not that it matters because I cut out the defensive shot with a 179.12.
Also
SP-5 19.54 (http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20773) remaining
19.54 is impossible, is this actually an 18.54 or did you time it off of when you took the last shot, not the final frame shown in the replay?
Checked this one too, and it's an 18.54.  I managed to improve it to 18.55 though :P

Also I think I'm going to settle into daily table updates, that's probably the easiest way for me to do it.  (Note: not now, probably in a half hour or so, if not this afternoon)

For 12-6, seeing as it's bugged it may honestly be better to live-record attempts on that one.  I would need the original .avi file in that case.

I don't think my 12-6 was as good as yours, so don't worry about trying to make it work. Doing live recordings is a good idea for that one, so if I want to retry it, that's what I'll do.

Hopefully this will help chip away at those last few stages:

8-5 127.05 http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20802
This didn't take me too long to do, so it's probably not perfect. I'll probably try this again sometime. There is a bit of hesitation in the shots, but I discovered that a little hesitation is necessary to include the newly spawning zombie fairies in the shot, reducing your charge time and increasing your survival chance considerably.

6-1, 95.59 - Keep an eye on Yuugi's movements so that the lasers don't push you around.
6-2, 95.46 - Not too speedrunning friendly, I make a compromise before the last shot for survival.
6-3, 85.25 - I'm trying to get into the charge asap after the fourth photo.
6-8, 83.33 - This one is annoying, because there's no way to snap more than one photo per cycle, so I just tried getting the last photo really early.
8-2, 89.78 - Survival, I don't know if there's any good strategy on this besides rushing up right after the last cycle ends.
11-4, 169.68 - Survival, doing it any other way would be too annoying.

EX-6: 179.93
In Soviet Gensoyko, bullet dodge YOU!

Will probably update the table around 5-ish, that seems to be the best time for me to do it.

Is a faster route possible?

10-7, 167.21
The laser is harmless, small clusters of bullets can force you out of charge though, which ruins the attempt.

12-8, 249.79
I missed a shot... it's a starting point I guess.

EX-1, 171.47
No defensive shots, nothing special otherwise.

EX-3, 176.97
Did this on my first try. Turns out you don't have to think about those bullets from the sides!

EX-4, 178.17
A nifty little strategy I found, can be improved further though.

1-1: 97.24 s
Moved to the side at the beginning so I could stream back toward the center and be in a better position to dodge the next set of bullets.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20842

1-2: 76.50 s
Looks like I captured most or all of the red bullets in the second photo.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=20843

1-3: 76.17 s
Fortunately, the bubbles have small hit-boxes.

1-4: 85.67 s
I used the horizontal format for the second photo. Not sure if it helped though.

7-7: 82.57 s
Improvable by more double focusing.

There's been a little (read: one person expressing interest but they don't have the game), but not too much.  SDA is a much slower moving forum than here anyway.

I lied about updating at 5, I'll do it as soon as my computer isn't tied down with video editing and I have a half hour a lot of time to spend on that.

Maybe some competition will arise once it's finished and submitted then. Will you make a video out of all the replays or send them in as they are?

Holding the third photo to let more bullets spawn, to make it easier to remain on the same side another wave.

Looked some at 9-1, seems like no defensive shots is doable, too bad the final phase can be so annoying when Satori moves up high on the screen.

Hopefully.
I'll record each replay separately and then combine the scenes for each stage into 14 videos, which will be the finished files on the site if the table is accepted.
SDA has a whole verification process that runs have to go through, which after submission shouldn't take more than 6 months from submission to posting (assuming verifiers are fonud quickly, which if we verify everyone else's ILs then it wouldn't take long at all  :V [the Marble Blast Gold ILs are verified by the other runners anyway]).  If the thread is locked at that point I'll just PM the contributors updates.

Added the stuff edited in to catfish's post.  As usual point out anything else I may have missed.

list of scenes missing:
1: none!  Nice work Ridley.
2: none! ditto, plus catfish and myself
3: none! Amazing job catfish, Ridley
4: 4-2 Catfish, nice job on most of these, good job Ozzy on 4-7 (and I'm proud of my 4-5)
5: 5-5 Catfish, Seiga, Ozzy, nice job on clearing most of these at speed.
6: none!  Amazing job owning those oni catfish and BT.
7: also none! Kudos to Seiga, myself, catfish, Ridley and Apathy/Haku.
8: 8-6, 8-7 Catfish, Ozzy, Apathy/Haku, Seiga, Ridley, nice job getting 6 of these 8.
9: 9-1 Ridley, kudos for clearing most of Koishi's, Zodiac, thanks for getting 9-7 out of the way, catfish and Zil, nice work towards these.
10: 10-2, 10-4, 10-5  Catfish, Seiga and BT, nice work on those 5.
11: 11-2, 11-3, 11-5, 11-8  Catfish, Zil and BT, kudos on those 4, but there's still 4 to go here.
12: none!  This is surprising, Zil catfish and Apathy/Haku have 6 of them, and surprisingly I have 2 of them.
EX: EX-7, EX-8, EX-9 Catfish, kudos for beasting most of these, Zil, nice job getting EX-5 out of the way since I hate that one, and I have EX-6 via uber strat.
SP: none! Seiga and catfish, nice job clearing the hard ones, while I have the 2 easy ones and SP-9 (my favorite in the game)

Well, it looks like all scenes are done now! This has been lots of fun to participate in this and I am very impressed by the level of optimization you guys achieved.

This challenge felt novel to me, I've previously attempted some scoring, but usually it's way too hard to get a competitive score, so it's not all that gratifying, this on the other hand requires a whole different mindset, and since the concept is so new you get to set the bar yourself, which allows for more casual play.
I really liked the way 4-6 and 2-4 turned out, even if they can be quite a bit faster, I'm happy with the strategy used, it was fun figuring out and playing those scenes. I believe 5-8 is the scene which I spent the least shots in before submitting, only 50ish (edit: looks like 11-4, EX-3 and 10-1 took even fewer shots). Improving Zil's 10-7 took me almost 700 shots and I did something like 650 in 9-1 before accepting the one defensive shot attempt (feel free to improve this one for me).

I haven't watched all the submissions, but from the few I watched I really liked Seiga's 12-8 and 8-3, Ridley's 3-4, Apathy's 7-1 and ihavenoname's 12-2!

Big thanks to ihavenoname for the initiative!

Well, just because all the scenes have a time doesn't mean that improvements can't keep coming in (in fact keep improvements coming if you get any).

Updating the table now, and besides, future updates of the table will be easier since I won't have to add any new entries  :V

Also wow this took a lot less time than I expected and had a lot more interest than I expected.

Scenes that could use improvements: 9-1 (cut out the defensive shot), 11-2 (nothing there yet...)

EDIT: as this draws closer to submission, I have to ask what you want to be referred to on SDA as.  The standard [first name] "[username]" [last name], although the real name can be omitted.  If I don't get a response by submission time (should be weeks from now, if not later due to IRL stuff) I'm just going to go with your current MoTK username.  Additionally, if you want to write some short comments on the overall part post those here too, they'll be included in the overall run comments.

edit 2: i guess i'll write a description

The first 3 pictures aren't much of a problem at all. Sometimes I'd get clipped by those tiny white bullets, but it's not a big deal. The fourth picture probably pissed me off the most. I barely have enough time to react, and most of my runs ended with 99% on that picture. The fifth isn't nearly as bad. The last 3 is just pattern recognition, but I thought I got really lucky with moving before taking that last picture. 162 is possible, but have fun trying to get that :V

fixed, and testing replay.

I've been testing 'seeding' the RNG and the most pictures I've got a replay to take of that scene is 5.

Your replay consistently failed after the 5th picture for me, if anyone gets it to complete please record and pass along the .avi, without a recording the time is worthless other than showing mine can be improved.

The song playing during 12-6 is very fitting.

More work for me?  Not really, assuming 50 comments (more than possible) it wouldn't take more than 10 minutes total with the systems I have in place for tracking all this.  Good thing I worked it out in advance rather than on the fly, made keeping track of comments, players, times and replays muuuuuuch easier.

Is it allowed to add in music on the submission videos? I'd think it would be nice if you recorded the replays without music and then put the song going in the video later, to have people get to listen to at least half the song instead of just the first 5 notes on repeat.

Nope.
Quote from: SDA FAQ
Runs with no sound, horribly loud or overpeaked sound, or mixed-in music are unacceptable.
Although I guess it can't hurt to ask if I can play the music for the stage overlaid over the ILs from that stage (i.e., from Stage 1 play 1-1 through 1-6 back to back with no breaks in the music)

Sanae's move...ments keep ending my runs.
I'd have beat this by now if she'd just move towards me instead of running.

edit: SANAE IS NOT A GOOD GIRL I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE MEME
edit 2: I got a 180.27 with...a bad first shot of all things, delaying the third shot, causing less bullet, causing more delay.
edit 3: Here's where I'm at.  I'm going to beat this.  After I do, if you beat it back, it's yours.  Also I'm not updating the table until I do, darn it!
edit 4: 180.38.  Sanae moves the wrong way 2/3 of the time I dodge successfully, 3/4 of the time I don't.  I fail the first shot on 20% of tries.
edit 5: keep dying to random part.  fail first shot 50% of tries.
edit 6: 180.46.  tie.  878 shots total.
edit 7: YOUR MOVE KAKU 180.53! ~1200 shots total on the scene, about 900 in the past 3 hours.

Bothering to actually make a submission block:

EX-6, 180.53
I spent 3 hours improving this from 180.46 to this.  Nearly 1000 shots were had.  The history on this scene went from my 174.xx to Apathy's 179.5x to my 179.6x to Seiga's 179.68 to my 179.95 to Seiga's 180.46 to my 180.53.

EX-6, 180.56
...

*looks closely at replay
5.010% slow rate?  That's more than 5%...... (since we're now in a frame war every bit of slowdown matters)

Comparing the 2 replays, mine has a slow rate of .620%.  Meaning that, if we had the same slow rate, my time would have been better (if I had 5%, I would have had a 180.60 at least, yours probably would be 180.45 at my slow rate).  Meaning I have to react faster because I'm not running at an average of 57 FPS.  Since we're at a frame level...that matters.  if it was 4.9% I'd be complaining but I wouldn't do anything about it since it's less than the accepted 5%.

Hopefully though I can just beat this so I don't have to worry about slow rate having an impact on anything.

it's less than the accepted 5%.

Yeah, just out of curiousity, why IS 5% the accepted maximum slowdown rate?

Not that I really have any problem with the number since slowdown isn't something I generally have to worry about, just 5% strikes me as rather arbitrary.

How does slowdown work in relation to ingame time, then? I always thought the game just displayed the time every frame regardless of the actual framerate, since this is game time and not necessarily real time we're measuring.

If what you say is true, then all of my records have some unfair advantage, because this computer is old and can't run anything past UFO at perfect speed all the time, just take a look here. (http://replays.gensokyou.org/index.php?u=Seiga+Kaku&g=125&p=&t=--&d=--&c=1&ch=0) Hell, my 180.46 run had 6% slowdown. :/

Post by: I have no name on May 11, 2012, 05:46:33 PM
game-time ticks down one 60th of a second every frame.
and if we're going for ideal game-time then we'd be TASing everything which defeats the purpose of preparing a submission.
so if the game is running at 50 FPS instead of 60, every game second is actually 1.2 seconds.  So, in your 180.56 run, every game second is actually 1.05 seconds, while for my 180.53 run, every game second is 1.008 or so.  Multiplying out time taken by seconds per second:
19.44*1.05=20.412 realtime
19.47*1.008=19.626 realtime
Making my run faster by nearly a second in realtime despite being 2 frames slower.

Although again, hopefully I can beat it in gametime, negating this whole discussion.

Yeah, just out of curiousity, why IS 5% the accepted maximum slowdown rate?

Not that I really have any problem with the number since slowdown isn't something I generally have to worry about, just 5% strikes me as rather arbitrary.
I'd like to know that too.

Since it's on the threshold I'd say accept it, I can sympathize with having a slow computer. However, I did discard a replay with ~5% slowdown (of 10-7 no less) myself.

Here are some last minute submissions.

11-6, 172.13
Still a bit survival heavy, a big improvement nonetheless.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=21055

EX-7, 167.35
New strategy, saves over 7 seconds... still not optimized. Maybe even more risky strategies are plausible for this scene.

EX-8, 177.50
Being more aggressive pays off.

i got a 180.56, left to take care of some stuff, came back, took 10 shots and managed to get all of them pretty much instantaneously, AND have a one-movement dodge in the spam dodge...to get 180.70
Time spent improving the 180.46: 3 hours for a gain of .07
Time spent improving the 180.56: 1 hour for a gain of .14

EX-6, 180.70
This is pretty much an ideal run, except the direction Sanae moved >.>
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=21059

I'm also done with this scene, if anyone beats it, you've earned it.

The amount of times I ruined a run by going to take the picture at 98% charge (99 just charges the rest of the way lol) or stalling at 100% on the 3rd or 4th shot is probably about 3 dozen between all attempts.

I just looked through all replays currently on the table and found 2 with a slow rate of 5% or higher: Zil's EX-8 (since improved) and my SP-5 (because fast forwarding dialogue results in 55 FPS, I fast-forwarded to take more tries quicker as opposed to mashing Z through it.  It does not affect the "mash Z" part of the scene, so I think it's a special case alongside SP-1)
Title: Re: Double Spoiler: speedrunning individual scenes(108/108 done! check 1st post)
Post by: Zil on May 11, 2012, 08:13:36 PM
I think the photography games in general are a kind of "special case" since the slowdown is clearly caused by taking pictures. When I play UFO the slowdown is almost always 0.000%, but in this game every time I take a picture the fps drops to 0 for a split second, reducing the average fps while having no realistic effect on gameplay.
Title: Re: Double Spoiler: speedrunning individual scenes(108/108 done! check 1st post)
Post by: I have no name on May 11, 2012, 08:17:37 PM
Well, sometimes it's 'post-photo lag" and sometimes it's "framerate drop during dodging" lag.  The first isn't a problem, but the second obviously gives those an advantage.  Although while recording live I did notice a lot of lag after photos, but less bullets didn't result in lag at all.  So the problem is the 'bullet to charge' effect.

For a YouTube version, fine.
For an SDA submission, I have to leave in the original music.  Good thing I have an external hard drive to store the original recordings on!

This took me 700+ shots. I wish I was fucking kidding.

The exact same time but the slowdown rate is lower. I feel bad and unsatisfied about nitpicking the technicality like this but a better time via technicality is still a better time. I apologise for being so anally retentive about this but I've been at this for long enough that even something as small and insignificant as a percentage of slowdown makes a huge difference.

I got a tie on EX-6 after a similar amount of shots-keep going!
I understand there's no formal system in place for dealing with ties but I feel that the best way to handle it is (honestly) first come first serve.

No time to update anything major right now, have to finish packing for tomorrow.  I'll try to update everything by tomorrow night though.

Oh, I noticed something a while ago but forgot about it. You added my name to the table for 10-7 but left Catfish's time and replay.

I'll fix that.

In terms of submission to SDA, IL is technically a different run, so I need to submit them as individuals, but I can also include an 'all scenes' video-I'll be sure to do so.
A Youtube upload will follow, unfortunately with no sound effects due to the way I'd add in alternative music, since I need the original music for the SDA submission.

It'd be the individual IL videos shoved together into one.
Why not record with the ingame BGM down to zero?
Because that would require re-recording, re-appending and re-encoding 108 ILs with game BGM set to 0.  The process would be tedious and take hours, all for sound effects?  Are they really that important?

If someone figures out a way to charge all the way through the final phase without stalling in the first 8 shots first it could probably be improved to 150.xx

I don't really understand why this is faster... but I'll take it.
Minoriko moved towards the bottom before the second photo and allowed you to capture quite a bit of the lasers. It also looked like you took the photos quickly, which sounds obvious, but it feels like you took them really quickly. I worked on this scene for about an hour yesterday and the closest I got was 85.77, so good job :V

EX-6, 180.75
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=21152

strategy:
>take first photo vertically as usual

>take second photo horizontally so that more bullets are in your next photo
>dance around like an idiot until your camera finishes charging, it's no use trying to dodge that consistently :V

The reason I stopped trying to beat it (aside from annoyance >_>) was that when it gets that perfect, it seems to become an issue of getting a lot of bullets in the third shot, which I have no patience for. :/

I've never gotten more than 5% on the third shot. 6% could happen if you're incredibly lucky, but I'm done with EX-6. Unless I decide to complete DS at 90 FPS, I'm never touching it again.

7-4, 93.25 Too much delay before the penultimate photo here.
8-2, 96.76 Much better execution, nothing changed in strategy.

This kind of submission is honestly a lot harder for me to work with than the gensoyko.org upload.  it would honestly be better to name the replays after the scene, without the time since I get the time from the post.

Alright, I just didn't feel like spamming the uploader with so much at once. I looked at 7-4 more today and found that you can combine the top of the screen switch with the 2 shots in first cycle method and potentially save about 2 seconds over the current best. I'm not too consistent with getting off 2 shots in the first cycle though, so I'll leave that to someone who is more trigger happy.

edit

10-1, 174.25
There are easier ways to dodge through the bubbles, but they are also slower, improvements on this strategy include snapping the third photo earlier and charging more before slipping through the bubbles, dodging more/all waves like this might save a second or so.

Freestyling. No through the rainbow goodness, but when the time is this nice and even I don't mind.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=21271

3-8, 96.03
Getting a great time here depends on how many umbrellas you can catch, I'm not sure if it matters for the first one, since getting more means waiting (possibly getting 2 is faster than 1/0 but I haven't checked). I've gotten 5 in the second photo a couple of times, and in this run I got 6 in the second to last. I'm not sure exactly how the umbrellas work, but it seems like you can manipulate their movements to some degree.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=21270

8-4, 85.52
Playing it normally, has room for improvement, is snapping a photo before the sun spawns at the third or fourth photo viable?

8-6, 93.03
A faster strategy, might be viable for the second photo too (much more annoying to play like that though).
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=21273

EX-3, 178.05
Faster strategy, only slightly harder since the last phase remains unchanged. Perhaps horizontal camera orientation will help too.

3-1, 100.35
100.xx was my goal, I didn't think I would get it by such a wide margin. It comes down to favorable boss movements (and fast photos) but 101.xx is definitely realistic.

Not backing down before the last photo makes it faster and much more luck reliant.

Thank you for showing how it's done Ridley! 168 and beyond is likely attainable, but needs some luck to not have to break the charge in the last few waves.

11-3, 180.07
I don't think a significantly faster strategy is possible, as the lasers give next to no camera recharge, can still be improved quite a bit by faster photos though.

Not updating yet, but I have added a total time to the spreadsheet.
As of this moment, the total time of all 108 scenes is...46 minutes and 11.76 seconds.
Let's go get sub-46!

Doing the fast strat for all shots, not the best execution perhaps.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=21583

I currently hold many scenes which should be pretty easy to gain a few seconds in, 3-6 can probably be improved by several seconds, but it's pretty random, 8-4 was played purely survival in my run, 9-6 was generally sloppy and since it's so long there might be like 5 seconds to save there. 11-2 only used a fast strat for the first 2 shots. Also I would like to see 4-4 done without waiting for the bullets  :V

Iku can go die in a fire.  I number of attempts I lost to being walled on the last shot... I went from 145 to 1426 shots while improving the 176.67, including 2 ties.  I had a virus scan start up right before this that I didn't realize until after, so the FPS is out of whack, but the overall slow rate is less than 5% so it's good, and there were a few moments of 61 or 63 FPS to counteract the 56 near the beginning.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=21584

As an added bonus, have the 7 replays I felt were fast enough to save leading up to this.

P.S. Seiga, can you kindly go join Iku in the fire she's been in for the past week or so?  kthxbye (translation: you got burned)

Sorry bro, I'm spending all my time building a fire for Koishi. It's gonna be at least ten times as powerful as yours.

I just stumbled across an excellent DNA path, but it's so precise that I've placed two pieces of tape on my monitor to line up my hitbox so I know where I should be to make it work. I'm kind of sick of it by now.

Deadline to renew submissions (i.e. someone get one in or I'll start recording then): 2 and a half days

Posting because I've readied the next update, so no edits before this post (not that the 4 day old posts are likely to be edited...)

Also, once I do start recording the video files will be stored neatly, so they'll be easy to replace if necessary, although obviously I'd rather not have to record them more than once.

After playing around with the scene for about 2k shots, I can see why it would take a lot of time and some pieces of tape :V In most cases I would start fine, but the DNA path would be completely off by the end and leave me without enough bullets to capture in the penultimate photo. Good job (http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/7492/icon56g.gif)

He's said this about recording:
Also, I'll need a final time when I should start recording these, this will be either June 30th or after a week of no new submissions.  After this point, I'll begin recording.  Once a scene is recorded, I will not be adding improvements of it to the table...until Double Spoiler Done Quicker?

Goal was 174.xx, I like my positioning for the final photo.

11-2, 161.39
Taking my chances and going into charge before the last photo.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=22081

11-6, 173.07
Goal reached. My tactic involved waiting for the first rings to spawn before snapping the third and fifth photo, this is to make uninterrupted charging more viable, but it also a means to acquire more certain camera recharge. It is possible to slip through the rings, but it would be TAS only to have that in the planned route. Also, Suwako's movements can make a pretty big difference to how this scene plays out. I believe faster and better strategies are possible without resorting to ring slippage, though.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=22085

EX-2, 177.67
I don't get full 35% after the third photo, camera orientation/positioning can probably improve that, I guess being faster also helps ;P
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=22087

EX-3, 178.14
Staying close to Sanae to catch more bullets, saving those frames...

EX-7, 168.87
Risky strategy, not the cleanest execution, but I like it, especially how Aya points the camera away from Reimu in the last photo looks so pimp.

Might still exist room for improvements in the strategy department, otherwise, the second to last photo could be faster if you are closer to Koishi and/or shoot the third earlier.

:ohdear: Sorry Seiga, but I'm sure you can reclaim this anyway!

Table updated with every entry thus far.

I also fixed my recording quality, so I'll start recording the ILs within the next few days.

I do have one final question: since the SDA submission will have to be the original game sound, for the DSDQ video (on my channel) do you guys want:
1. original sound  (no editing required)
2. new music, no sound effects  (requires some editing but it's not a huge deal anyway)
3. new music, sound effects  (requires recording every IL again without game music)

If 2 or 3, music suggestions?  I was thinking 1 song per stage, the song being the theme of one of the characters in the stage,

If I have to record twice I'm going to do the DSDQ versions first.

Great!

I would like to see a 3-5 min highlight video tightly edited to a song, something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fl0Sub0sk5o

If that isn't an option then I'd like to have an unedited video with original sound just to get the full experience available on youtube.

But I'd prefer to have both  :V

I think that's asking a bit too much. :V

IMO don't switch songs for every scene since that would be kinda awkward. Just have a few songs one after another for the whole thing, if you're changing sound in the first place. I don't think I'll object to the original. More boring, sure, but I'd definitely still watch it.

Does that also include original music (a.k.a. beginning of Infinite Nightmare 30 or so times)

imo the best solution would be just playing the respective BGM over the respective stages so it has a chance to play through, but that's just way too much work. <_<

That falls under option 3, playing the corresponding music over the video.
Really, I don't mind adding different music in, I suppose I just want to know if alternate music is more important than the sound effects, or if recording everything twice if worth having both.

I'm definitely going with the third option, recording everything twice wouldn't take too long.
In terms of the music choices, most of them are picked already.

I'll still accept any further ILs for stages I haven't recorded-that's anything Stage 3 onwards as of right now, though I'll likely record Stage 3 tonight.

Good to hear that it's coming together now, do you know if people from this forum can help verify the levels?

Yes-you can verify the levels you didn't do.
Because verifying your own stages would be biased  :V

Thanks, I must say, that sounds just like every scene I've speedrun thus far. Except replace "torture" with "fun", "Orin" with "the boss" and "one of the fairies" by "some danmaku" :P

Just going with horizontal alignment because it seems it gives more recharge more consistently.

I'd say 175.xx is realistic with this route as I was a bit slow with the last few photos and you could always shoot the second earlier, even if that means smaller chance of survival.

Good to see things are moving forwards.

Figured I could post my personal speedrunning highlights here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4vjwYoqw1g). I re-uploaded it to improve the video quality.

Scenes that can be improved: 10-8, 11-2, some others.

Scenes recorded: 50/108
Recorded stage 8.  58/108 scenes recorded, in number I'm more than halfway there, but in time I'm not quite halfway there.
Recorded Stage 9 and 10-1 before deciding to call it a night.  Tomorrow morning I'm going through 11-1, leaving 11-2 until the night so it can be improved.  67/108 scenes recorded.

Going through with a much faster strategy. With a shot count of 2200 this scene is definitely the one which I put most effort into.

EX-5, 175.40
This scene is harder than it might look.

That's a 9 second improvement in EX-5. And you thought 11-2 needed improvement? >_>

We must be getting close to sub 45 now, right?

I tried 10-8 a bit, and while I can get somewhere between 0.25-0.5 seconds ahead at the third shot, this creates a bottleneck of sorts because there aren't enough bullets on the screen to refill the charge. Did you not get this problem (I'm sure the loss in charge isn't bigger than the time saved by fast shots though)?
I'm pretty sure with higher calibre players sub 45 could be taken. Like, if Baity would have joined in on this I have a hard time seeing myself holding any scenes at all :P

I did have that happen as well, and it's not worth waiting.  If you're that far ahead at the 3rd shot then you can definitely beat it.

Recorded 16 (!) more scenes, everything from 11 and 12.  Meaning only 19 scenes are left to be recorded, 10-8, and all of extra and spoiler!

EX-7, 170.47
Most interesting EX-scene, and one of the most interesting scenes to speedrun in the whole game IMO. This is as far as I am willing to push this scene, but know that if you do things differently in the Reimu-manipulation setting up the fourth shot, you could probably push it to 172.xx. That would involve passing several red rings on top of getting lucky with Reimu's attack position, I am not even remotely consistent at dodging more than one ring at once which is why I don't go for that.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=22934

Sorry Ihavenoname, I'm not doing 10-8, too much effort for too little gain, I'm fairly sure most of my already submitted could be improved by 0.25 seconds given a dedicated runner.

-edit-

SP-6, 181.95
By going up higher on the screen when possible I increase the chance of getting off fast photos (because Aya can move within reach on her own).

Also, I tied 10-8 (http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/6279/108ko.png). Is it really just a matter of camera orientation (vertical first, horizontal rest)? My only other clear was 176.70, so I'm wondering if there's anything else to it.

Replay for the 10-8?  I did some testing under the same circumstances mine was done under and it was running at roughly 50 FPS while displaying the numbers 56-63, so I may have inadvertently TASed it >.<  Since you've tied it (definitely not TASed as opposed to maybe TASed) I'll go with that one.

edit: I'm calling it here on all submissions aside from major (read: .25+) improvements on the unrecorded scenes, assuming you have the replay for that Ridley.

Said it on Youtube, but I'll say it here. Great work guys. You really took these things to the limit. (I seem to recall some joking about no defensive shots on that one Byakuren scene, then it actually happened. :o)

There's only one scene I can think of a potentially easy improvement for, and that's Ichirin's first nonspell. I discovered once, when trying to score the scene, that you can stand among the lasers in the blurry ring where they all spawn. Clearing the scene without ever unfocusing should be simple using that strategy. A bit late I guess, but maybe in the future.

In any event, I'm looking forward to a similar thing for Shoot the Bullet.

btw, you can timeout Camera Shy Rose by running in big clockwise circles. I might even say, "no dodging needed."

Some notes...

EX-5 is my favorite scene in the video (that I did), because of how well it went with the music and because I'm confident that the time is OK. (Random's 7-4 is one of the biggest highlights in the whole thing for me, because it's crazy and he went beyond what I though was possible for that scene.)

In EX-4 the Hatate WR goes around Reimu in the even closer tier and can snap photos without having to move out of the way of the blue barrier, which could probably be faster than what I'm doing, since I have to move out of the way. I can't tell if its actually possible to snap photos at all times while doing that strategy though.

I'm a bit sad that the strategy I found in SP-9 didn't end up being used in the final submission, despite being potentially faster (providing good execution, of course) as far as I can tell.

My play in 8-8 and 7-1 looks way too sloppy.

6-5 isn't static, or it sort of is, but the whole pattern has a random orientation each time. It's just another luckshit strategy.

I was able to tie Random's 4-5 time using the same strategy, and by going into one of the cells closer to Nitori after the first shot you can get a small gain in camera recharge over the current strategy, it's quite challenging to pull it off though, and then you have to dodge one ring of big bullets too before you can snap the photo.

3-2 and 3-3 are maybe the only scenes that never saw any improvements from their first submission? And they were some of my earliest submissions too. In 3-3 I break the charge to avoid the swarm of kunai before the final shot, I guess doing something stupid like dodging through the kunai swarm would improve it.

And something which I didn't say before because I though someone would go and beat my time if I did:
I did the EX-8 submission on my second try :P

Yeah...

I'm getting worried about the verification process, apparently stuff gets rejected if its not optimized enough. With that said, I made a 0.82 second improvement to 5-7 just now. Pretty cool looking change to the strategy; sitting against the right side of the screen after the first shot and getting completely obscured by lasers like in the WR scoring runs in order to get more recharge by getting said lasers in the second shot. But after that point I'm not sure if my route is the best anymore, perhaps going diagonally above Ichirin and switching to horizontal camera alignment will save time in getting the third shot off while still catching the next brofist. Maybe even 102.xx could be attained?

Can I keep posting replays to the thread? Could be nice for people to have more resources if they want to improve the times.

Yeah, sure.

I still have no idea how to submit a run (looking into it though) so I can re-record some scenes that got improved.

So apparently I have everything ready for a submission now, post the improvements you already have because it would be silly to not include them (read: anything you already finished, 3-3 and 5-7, maybe 7-1 as well but that'd look basically the same) and then I'll submit the run.  Personally i didn't see a problem with 8-8.

12-2 only ever had 2 ILs-mine and the .09 improvement near the end.

Which strategy?

Hug any side of the screen after the first shot with vertical camera alignment, snap the photos ASAP with no delay (if you are lucky Aya spawns over you and you get an instant photo, go for as many in a row that you feel like), then go back to the middle (and switch to horizontal) because getting all photos like that would require insane luck even if it is 50% chance (or is there something determining where Aya spawns?).

I don't actually know if it will be faster since I felt so incredible stupid when you started speedrunning that and used horizontal alignment vs IHNN and me using vertical all the time  :colonveeplusalpha:

Hmm, would moving upwards through the kunai swarm without breaking charge (and then possibly dashing the last way if you are early enough for Kisume to be too high on the screen) be faster? I'm guess it would, but it would probably be about as likely to succeed as the 12-3 strat.

I went for it all of once and took like 50 shots to put down the first one because it's my favorite scene  :V

Either way, unless you can think of any major improvements I'll record those 4 and send it off to SDA.

There's always improvements to make, but I'd say go ahead and submit the thing unless someone wants to play more.

I'm good at the moment.

Oh OK. Doing that could definitely be faster, though I see it being hard to gain a significant advantage due to the randomness of everything. Plus I tried it for a bit and seemed to die more often when I stuck to the sides :V

Hmm, would moving upwards through the kunai swarm without breaking charge (and then possibly dashing the last way if you are early enough for Kisume to be too high on the screen) be faster? I'm guess it would, but it would probably be about as likely to succeed as the 12-3 strat.

I never attempted to speed-run 12-3, but doing 3-3 that way seems like it might be harder since the kunai move in more varied angles and are a little denser. My plan was to make the unfocused dash as short as possible and hope to dodge the side of the kunai cloud.

DSDQ: half the views stopped before a minute in  :(
Beyond that most people watched until at least the credits.

How does it handle jumping ahead? Since I tend to skip around and such.

Any responses from SDA yet, or are they waiting until the official submission?

A couple people in #touhou on the SDA IRC channel have enjoyed the video, but 'officially' they're waiting for the submission...which reminds me I need to send that E-mail to puwexil.

Double Spoiler is currently available for verification on SDA!
http://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/runs_needing_verification_81_changed_august_19th.html

I still have to record those scenes (going to find out how to record them straight into RAM) and wait to be asked to send in the files but from there it's good to go.

Well, your execution of the current strategies is superb anyway, so any further improvements can definitely wait until later, when maybe more interest is raised over speedrunning DS.

All you need is knowledge of the game, and an account (to access the PM feature) on the forums.

It helps to have been around to make sure they're up to standard but I already know they are  :V

Nope, you can't verify your own runs.
There is precedent for IL tables being verified by the other people doing them though-the Marble Blast Gold IL table was verified by the people who did it, less their own scenes.

Title: Re: Double Spoiler: speedrunning individual scenes (DSDQ video on Youtube!!!)
Post by: ARF on August 22, 2012, 04:05:14 PM
I did some camera speed testing with Aya since the information on the wiki wasn't quite elaborate enough. I just wanted to find out how much of a difference any amount of % charge regained from bullets actually makes.

After snapping a photo and having regained control of Aya, there is an approx. 1.09 second time window where you can't recharge the camera.
The first 10% of charging the camera takes approx. 0.62 seconds, the first 20% takes 1.02 seconds, and every 10% afterwards takes 0.33 seconds for a total of 3.66 seconds to go from 0% to 100%.

So, say you change your strategy and gain a 3% charge advantage over your old strat, you can potentially gain 0.099 seconds  :V

Anyway...

2-1, 100.77
Going to the side for the second photo to get a slight recharge bonus, sometimes I could get the shot off before the rings split, so there's definitely room for improvements still.

2-3, 95.27
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=23344

2-5, 101.70
Making a quick sideways dash before the third photo to catch more bullets.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=23363

5-6, 94.89
Going to the right for the second photo to leave more bullets in the screen to the left for the second cycle, seems like I got 3% more recharge in the third photo compared to the previous record by doing this, but my last photo was slightly delayed...

7-3, 96.25
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=23370

8-4, 89.35
I'm guessing 90.xx is possible with flawless execution.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=23415

9-3, 167.05
I got lucky with Satori's movements after the last barrage.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=23347

10-1, 175.56
Sometimes a more simplistic approach is better I guess.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=23424

10-7, 168.40
Yeah, no real strategy this time, just pressing buttons and hoping for the best.

12-5, 165.75
Another scene where a ballsy strategy yields a faster time. I was hoping to get 166.xx and indeed, I was delaying a bit too much at the end there. I might come back and redo this later.
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=23397

SP-4, 88.36
This run was pretty much flawless up until the fourth photo, if you watch the replay you'll see why...  another second can be saved here, pretty sure.

SP-7, 183.13
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=23402

I looked through the data sheet and updated it with the new times and it looks like there's 14.58 seconds left before we go sub 45 minutes now.

Thought I'd give my opinion on the current video in the OP - not sure if this has been brought up yet, though. Why not completely cut out the "Spellcard - Player - Time" title and just place it in the bottom of the clip, like what they did for QDQ? Similarly, for most speedruns like this I've seen online, they have needed to be cut together in such a way that it looks like a single playthrough, even though it isn't - the example again is QDQ. Will it still be accepted even though there is no footage of the actual selection of spell cards?

Other than that, all I can say is good job! :3

The first frame of each (as well as several others after) shows selecting the replay.

I'd say that it should be fine, since every scene is unique anyway.

-Been having trouble getting enough recharge from the penultimate shot of 2-3. Is the pan up necessary for this?
-Is the improvement in 9-3 mainly due to the quick last photo?
-Probably won't attempt 2-5 or 10-7 for a while, if at all. I almost never got two rings to show up after the second photo of 2-5, and the dash at the end of 10-7 might be a bit too tricky for me :V

@5-6, Pretty sure they do make a difference, I just didn't execute it very well.

SP-4 Great execution, I was strongly suspecting that you could get off the last photo without moving out of the way of Hatate's viewfinder, but looking at your attempt it still looks pretty far off. Hmm hmm.
2-3 Not sure, I couldn't replicate it myself when trying to improve it a bit more before submitting. You could just try something with positioning and camera orientation/panning, or maybe I was just lucky with the bullet density that time.

9-3: Yes. Seems like it's a weird scene, waiting a bit for more bullets for recharge on the penultimate was the best bet.
2-5 10-7 oh well. Those are solid times then I guess.

I wanted to ask you something too, when you speedran 1-1, how did you deal with the tutorial screens that come up? I tried 1-1 some more too, and found that you can get off your photos BEFORE they pop up on the second, third and fourth photo. When this happens you just have to press z and your photo will snap immediately afterwards, which should be good for optimization. But maybe you already did this? It's quite hard to do though, I could only make it happen like 1 out of 8 tries or so.

I'm still not doing any updates on stuff until the first, aside from recording. (probably)  I wanted a break from this stuff darn it.

Understandable. And yeah, you did :V But I figured we could still keep track here even if we can't on SDA.

Oh OK. That *might* be possible if you can get 35% recharge both times and cut out the long dash after the 5th photo.

I just snapped those photos as soon as I could after the prompts like normal. Is the idea to snap the photo in the instant between reaching 100% and the prompt popping up?

The idea was to start aiming the camera before the prompt popped up, it should look like in the image. When I fail it I just mash z hoping that I'll make the photo go off immediately after the game resumes, but I fear that I lose time that way.

Very nice looking 2-3 strat! But the recharge gain from the 4th seemed about 5% lower than from my time. Maybe worth looking into further later or something. Good job though!

Yes! Excellent job at SP-4.

Oh OK. I went back and managed to take the photos before the prompts about four times. Only cleared once though, and it was about 0.2 s slow. Definitely going to be tricky to use it effectively.

Yeah, it will be tricky to get it on all the photos possible, but also fast!

I guess that means 2-3 has even higher potential then. It kinda looks like you could have gotten more charge from vertical camera orientation actually, obviously hard to know without trying.

8-4, 90.95
Rewatched my previous improvement and figured that this could be done. And it seems 92.xx is possible by making the last shot before the final cycle ends.

8-4, 92.77

9-6, 229.47
Found a way to do the second phase 1 second faster, first shot in third phase as well as final shot had a slight delay, so I guess maybe 231.xx could be a very optimal time for this scene, unless faster strat for second phase is found.

I managed to clear with a vertical fourth photo and only got 19% recharge on it, so maybe it depends on the individual bullet density?

Welp, it might be hard to do with a shot that early then? Not sure to be honest.

I've been trying to step it up on 10-1 and save another 1-2 second by starting with the new strat from the second photo, got withtin 9x% of the last shot a few times, definitely doable, most likely doable within 100 tries or so.
10-2 while recently improved can surely be about a second faster still if you stay closer to Iku.
12-5 can still be improved some by being faster, but so can probably 90% of the scenes :P
Some small improvements shouldn't be too hard on 4-5 and 5-4, there's better strats for both of those, I can show what I mean if you want.
And there are big timesavers on many of the hard-to-speedrun scenes, such as 11-2 and EX-7 but they are also the most difficult/unlikely ones to pull off I think.

If someone wants to format the table the right way with all the new stuff that'd be great, I'll still have to pick through and update the spreadsheet/replay archive but half the work would be done already.  I'm going to be a while (and it's no rush since SDA is still waiting on verifiers you slowpokes)

k, so updated this table.  Left to do:
re-write comments to reflect changes in table
download/archive current replays
make someone record everything

and also...
create the base table for StB, as well as the data tracking
make the thread!

This should all be done by tomorrow night-I have a few essays to write for school but I needed a break so I updated this.
Please, no more (unless you manage to shave off the remaining 3.58 seconds until 44:59.99)

Yes-as soon as I get everything set up I'll start the thread for that.  just give me a couple hours and I should have it up, with any luck.

OK, I'm not really planning on trying too much but I was at least looking forward to another finished product in a few months.

If it wasn't clear, this is completely called as of now.
I've been contacted by SDA for the run and so it shouldn't be too long, but this essentially means absolutely no more submissions.
They'll just be ignored.

I'm nearly done setting up for StB though, just have to get the times of Namazu's replays into the spreadsheet and then we're good to go on that.

Want the 5-4 scene now or should I keep waiting for the thread? I can just put it on the uploader.

Shameless doublepost bump.
I see the run has got enough verifiers now. Does this mean we can expect it to be approved within a month or so? I'm looking forward to it anyway.

I'm having someone record it in HD, so the files still haven't been torrented.  It'll still be a while, the SDA process in the background takes a while.
