Title: Apparently selling games in inexpensive bundles has become somewhat of a trend
Post by: MatsuriSakuragi on October 26, 2011, 08:19:01 PM
http://www.indieroyale.com/

According to IndieGames.com (http://indiegames.com/2011/10/indie_royale_grab_four_great_i.html):
Quote
Today, IndieGames.com is excited and proud to unveil a brand new website dedicated to indie gaming. As part of a partnership with digital distribution platform Desura, we can now reveal Indie Royale, a fortnightly indie game bundle site that will be providing the very best indie games at ridiculously low prices.

From the moment each bundle launches, the price will be a mere $1.99 and offer four prime indie games. As people pick the bundle up, the price will slowly increase, so the best idea is to grab it while it's still cheap! However, bundle-buyers can choose to pay over the current minimum price, and therefore knock the minimum price down for everyone else, while also getting their name and preferred url on the Indie Royale front page.

The premiere Indie Royale bundle, predictably called The Launch Bundle, includes as one of its lead titles Wadjet Eye Games' Gemini Rue. A previous Independent Games Festival finalist, the Joshua Nuernberger-created title is a moody, classic 2D adventure game, with a futuristic sci-fi setting and hand-drawn backgrounds galore. Also included in this initial Launch Bundle
is acclaimed FPS tower defence title Sanctum, which includes four-player co-op in its fast-paced action palette, as well as underappreciated 'Metroidvania'-esque Dream Build Play winner A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda, and Noumenon Games' acclaimed, ingenious puzzle/racing game Nimbus.

It's sort of fascinating to see this becoming more common, especially among independent developers. In this case, there'll be a new one every two weeks. I wonder how this will turn out.

EDIT: Though, unlike the Humble Indie Bundles, these do not seem to be cross-platform, etc.

I approve of this trend.

I approve as well, which is why I ended up buying this bundle, as I've been curious about at least two of these games. A.R.E.S. is a total P.OS. Some of the clunkiest platforming I've ever had the displeasure of playing through, not to mention the utterly cheap boss fights and a completely uninteresting character cast and storyline.

Nimbus on the other hand is straight up crack. Dear lord, it took all of my willpower to put it down. This thing is freaking addicting. A Nintendo Hard, hybrid racing/puzzle/strategy game is apparently right up my ally. Haven't tried Sanctum or Gemini Rue yet. I'll get back to y'all when I do.

I just got the bundle the other day as well, Sanctum doesn't really work so I'm going to try Nimbus. The other two I'm not sure about... haven't heard of them before.

Bah, gonna have to miss out on this one, it seems. (EDIT: Or not!)

Ah, well. It'll be totally worth it come next month, when I can actually play Skyward Sword the day it comes out.

I can't pay a penny for games but at least it's still cheap.

Tried A.R.E.S, it's OK but I wouldn't recommend it... It is kinda clunky and gets kinda repetitive. At least it runs on my shitty laptop :D
Other than that it's a stereo-typical platformer... And the difficult bundle is up next... :ohdear:

I pretty much got this for Gemini Rue. I've been enjoying it a lot so far.

New bundle is up, and the site is overloaded/crashed.

The games this time are:
NightSky (http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=NightSky)
Fate of the World (http://www.fateoftheworld.net/)
Scoregasm (http://www.scoregasm-game.com/)
Time Gentlemen, Please! (http://www.sizefivegames.com/games/tgp/) and Ben There, Dan That!  (http://www.sizefivegames.com/games/ben-there-dan-that/)

"It's called the difficult 2nd bundle because of how hard it is to purchase."

You should, it's a great twin-stick game. Some of the levels make me wanna pill my hair out, though. XP

Looks like I'll have to give this one a pass. Pity, Scoregasm looked like fun, and I already enjoyed Fate of the World... but we just don't have the extra money to spare right now.

It'll all be worth it when I get my Skyward Sword preorder, though.

Three DLC packs have been added to Fate of the World, and there are two more games added as well-- Irukandji (http://www.charliesgames.com/wordpress/?page_id=11) and Bullet Candy Perfect (http://www.charliesgames.com/wordpress/?page_id=14), both by Scoregasm creator Charlie's Games.

2 days, 21 hours remaining, current price is $2.84 as of this post.

Soundtracks to NightSky and Scoregasm have now been added. They really are adding a lot to this one. o_o

I got it today, mostly because of NightSKy and Bullet Candy Perfect. I hope the latter works with a gamepad this time. XD

I got it but I've only been playing scoregasm so far.
Everything except insane seems easy, but insane is just insane.

Thread has been closed for the sake of a general sales/bundle thread. (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,11344)
