Since the subject came up in the BDSM thread, you might be happy to know that you can take a test that helps determine your psychological gender.

There are five genders: masculine, feminine, cross-sexed (opposite your physical gender), androgynous (both) and undifferentiated (neither). And it's not originally an online test, but used to be a pencil-and-paper test created way back in the early 70s.

EDIT: Do keep in mind that this test does not conclusively nail you down into one psychological gender. Normally you take a series of tests under the supervision of a trained physician. It is not a substitute for a professional assessment.

EDIT EDIT: Muffin found the unabridged version (http://garote.bdmonkeys.net/bsri.html) of the test. Take both tests and compare the scores - so far people are seeing a lot of consistency. YMMV.

That's not how it works.

The questions are one-third masculine, one-third feminine, and one-third neutral. If you click the link, you'll say you're asked to assess yourself on a scale of "never" to "always" in terms of particular traits (e.g., "secretive", "leadership" etc.). The scores mark your scale of affirmation for masculine and feminine traits. So someone answering "sometimes" or "never" on masculine questions scores a low masculine level. It is possible to score a high masculine level and a high feminine level.

It's not on a scale where masculine and feminine are polar opposites. They each have their own scale from low to high, so that high on both M/F percentages result in Androgynous, and low on both M/F results in undifferentiated. You can theoretically get 100% for each one, or 0% for each.

To expand on that: the BRMI is a real test used to help assign psychological gender created in 1971, and has been in use for decades. Don't let the fact that it's on the internet fool you. But without taking it under physician supervision, coupled with other tests, it can only give you part of the picture.

Also, keep in mind it's an adapted inventory for entertainment purposes, read: "The test consists of a list of 30 personal attributes. Rate each attribute on how accurately it describes you. (The original BSRI had 60 questions and offered seven choices for each attribute, but long tests are boring and OKCupid only allows four answers per question. Not that it makes much difference...)"

Keep in mind, I took it a long time ago, and I think the BSMI had more categories than just Masculine, feminine, Androgynous, and Undifferentiated. I remember scoring somewhat high on both, higher for feminine, and got some kind of result that indicated a blending of the two.

Driving two hours south in the morning, turning around and driving two hours north in the morning. That's four hours of the sun pouring in through the driver's side window.

I'm not too worried about skin cancer - I imagine something would have happened to me by now if it really happened. Besides, I don't have the health care coverage. >_>

I used to be a delivery driver, so my left arm was always two shades darker than my right. I'm somewhat tan from being half Filipino (mad farmer's tan tho), so I just get darker instead of pinker. I still drive a lot, but it's not as bad anymore.

That really doesn't look normal though, Kilga. O_o I've never heard of sunburn/tan persisting that long.

That's it.  I'm going to start going back to the gym and take advantage of free tanning so I look good throughout the winter.

Honestly when I took it for the psych exam I was too worried about what a "girl" would put so that's how I got an absurdly high feminine score.  This time around I just answered honestly :l

Sort of.  There are personality tests that are based on your first instinct but others work better if you really dig in and think.  Like I put I was athletic when I'm really not, and I answered competitive higher.

Honestly the BSRI is pretty out of date.  There's a better psychological battery test for gender that I wish I could remember the name of.  BSRI is just a quick test to see what archetypes you fit to, but it's pretty inaccurate at actually diagnosing your perceived gender role.

Oh, you're right! It's probably because this one included stuff like competitiveness and competition. Cool.

...And I think the only things that I missed a lot of female points for would be moody and loving children. I didn't put all maxes for the others, though.
