OK, between DDC fast becoming my favorite, the answers he gave at the panel, and how totally chill and friendly he's being with these fans, I think this might be the best year for Touhou for me. I don't think I'm being hyperbolic when I say that this is a pretty historic moment for our community.

moot fails at closing tags in his announcement text. This happens pretty much every second or third announcement he makes.
There were requests for ZUN to play the Extra stage, but there wasn?t enough time among other things.Damn, that would've been so awesome :(
The doppelganger is awesome because he's like, a Wario to ZUN's Mario. In that case, maybe other Asian people look TOO similar to ZUN to pull something like that off.Hmm... That's true...
I'm glad we gave ZUN a good impression. He seems to be very impressed to find out he is well known even outside Japan, at least judging by his happy expressions.ZUN does look like a happy man! Could be the alcohol too...
Damn, that would've been so awesome :(Yeah, but he did comment on the game being played! Too bad no one's uploaded any text or video of what he said. There wasn't a translator translating on the fly either.
Also, so far JP's reaction to the scroll is positive. Impressed even. They've already been impressed when they found out the scroll exists.

Q: I heard there was a rumor that the games were going to be sold on Steam. Is that true? And he also said he still haven't planned for localization, mainly because it's too complicated. Maybe you guys should ask him if he wanted some help from the fan on that. But since he said making Touhou is all about himself, he might refuse.
ZUN: Steam is really good. I like it. There is talk about it, but it?s just talk. It would be good if it was, but it?s just a rumor. Nothing has been decided. It?s also really difficult to release. The process would be really complex to complete.
Q: Is there anything you can tell us about Satsuki Rin? The character that was cut out from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil?Ask him whether he'll put her in future games or not!
ZUN: Ahhh? Well, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil was the 1st for the Windows platform. I wanted her to be a playable character in the game, but due to time constraints I had to cut her out.
Q: I heard that in Undefined Fantastic Object, there was going to be a boy character. Are you considering to make any boy characters in the future? That just kills any chance for a male playable or boss characters. And since ZUN said he can only make Touhou, that pretty much means he's not going to make any male in games. Word of God, right there.
ZUN: I feel as if boys get in the way of the game. I?d like to make boy characters in another game as long as the game was completely unrelated to Touhou. Boys would just ruin the balance of the series.
Q: Are there any characters that hold a special place in your heart?I hope this is just a miss on the translator part or ZUN just being silly. Or neither, who's that?
ZUN: Hakurei Rin.
Q: Will you consider bringing back very old characters from the series? So, who's going to start asking about Mima?
ZUN: I won?t say no. There?s your answer.
Q: Have you ever considered taking some of your musical ideas and take them into orchestras, small bands, group ensembles, and etc?You heard the man. Now go make one!
ZUN: I don?t need to, because I have the fans do it for me.
Wow, I would like a digital version of that, or at least a better look at it.http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/243/4/f/scroll_project_final_by_totaku-d6kgz14.jpg

At first I was bit dissapointed that the rest of DDC weren't in the picture, but then I looked at the background and saw what they did there. There wasn't enough time to get people to draw more DDC characters, since the game was released very recently, and the deadline was the 31st of last month. Totaku himself had to do the background for that section, he said he pulled an all-nighter to do it as well.
Also, is that Littleshrimp doing Tojiko?
... for sharing ... people. It's mostly just me being creepy and stalking the interwebs though :fail:
It's mostly just me being creepy and stalking the interwebs though :fail:I meant more like the initial people who are at AWA, sharing and caring. Though of course the translators and bloggers/twitters count in as well :V Someone needs to make the transformation from RL to Interwabz.

Also, apparently the AWA shirt smells pretty rank. The shirts were of a thin fabric so smells got through them pretty easily. They also shrank easily once I got them in the wash. Good thing I got one a size bigger.

My concern is, do we have enough North American artists to fill the booth? My thoughts exactly. I don't foresee America being able to support a doujin event like Japan can, just because America just doesn't have the ability / right factors to support doujin creation.

HOKAY I'M BACwell technically I'm actuaylly not back yet, Gandalph and I are at Silentsword's house. Sweeeeet jeezus the video I got this con... well, sweet jeezus this con in general. I've taken to referring to AWA 2013 as "The 72-hour sprint" because that was about the tempo from Friday morning to Sunday evening. I think this time around I'm gonna prioritize uploading the stuff you guys care about, probably starting with... well actually apparently I'm being requested to get the 108 Touhou March up asap, so that'll go up tonight hopefully as an appetizer. Lemme get that going now, actually. Okay folks, stay tuned!~

Sedrife, you brought up a lot of points that have been bugging me for a long time. Speaking only of geography, 30% of Japan's population lives in the Kanto Plain, an area the size of New Jersey. This makes events like Comiket and Reitaisai feasible commercial endeavors, because most of your customer base lives only a train ride away. I love Montreal and I would love to visit Boston, but finding time and funds for even a weekend trip is (as I'm sure it is for most us) a huge opportunity cost. Even the most popular western doujin circles (I'm thinking of people like Odyssey and Leo Modesto) might find it hard to recoup their travel costs. That's why your idea of a virtual doujin event makes the most economic sense. To do that requires someone to have a real heart-to-heart with ZUN about relaxing restrictions on online sales of derivative works. AWA, as it happens, was not the right time or place to do that, but could provide the necessary impetus.Since you bring up Montreal and I was the organizer of that event I just want to clarify something. While we were supporting some local Canadian doujin circles at our event (we're very lucky to have a very active fanbase in our area), we're primarily about gaming. I tried to avoid using terms like Reitaisai to avoid confusion. We had quite a few artists and a music circle who performed live but our main programming was panels, tournaments, screenings, amongst other things. I hope no one got the wrong idea.
On a lighter note, I really enjoyed your piano CD! It makes me want to practice the piano more to get up to your level, and that's a good thing.
Posting to cause thread updates to be sent! My AWA 2013 set is released! Most of the "extra" frames from action sequences were dropped. Enjoy!

That Kagerou was pretty cool and answered one tough trivia question. I gave her and her boyfriend the last of the maple candy we had.
Thanks! Which question was that? They ended up calling on me three times (though the third was the guest question-asker), since I think I got a bit too excited about having all of this stuff memorized, especially when we reached a point when nobody raised their hand. And oh gosh, can I just say thanks so much for that candy? It was probably the most amazing thing we've ever had! What was it and where can we get some, if I may ask?
No joke, I will straight up pay $100 for one of those AWA Tenshi shirts in XL or maybe L depending on the actual size.CHIKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO うおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおお

Pop quiz, hotshot! The quiz panel really made me want to read CiLR again considering I read the first half ages ago and couldn't finish it at the time. I shoulda known the Mokou/Iwakasa question because it's one of her spell cards and Iwakasa pops up in like chapter 3. Stupid work website filter.

What was it and where can we get some, if I may ask?I can't even take credit for the idea, but I can at least point you in the right direction. Maple candy is a bit of a delicacy in northern states and Canada, partially because the candy really is ALL maple sugar. It was intended to be something New England-esque to give to other people. It can be pricey, but buying it in bulk and making it last will help. Candy stores with a good bit of variety could have some, but can be found online if you look (http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/store/jump/productDetail/Food_&_Candy/Pantry_&_Gourmet_Food/Vermont_Maple_Syrup/Vermont_Maple_Leaf_Candy/14955;jsessionid=AD78188DB41F94CB3B9853591DF7E9FA.vcs-app-11-p-app1). They'll be a bit pricey just about everywhere, though. Or move to Vermont. Just don't provoke the cows or the entire state is DONE FOR. :V

If my memory serves well, the question was, "Which is the only boss was Reimu afraid of, both before and after the battle?"Thanks! I'm guessing that's the one that stood out since it involved a ZUN ticket, hah. (The other two were "What three instruments were featured with characters in DDC?" with an answer of "Biwa, koto, and taiko drum" and "Who created Kokoro's masks?" with an answer of "Toyosatomimi no Miko" said way too fast due to nervousness, but the latter doesn't quite count since someone else said Shoutoku first and I guess they missed that and didn't hear?)
The answer was, "The Five Magic Stones."
You're welcome~! :DHurgh, thanks to you too! That was certainly the best part of everything~ :D

Sky Bars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_Bar) are another bit of New England confectionary candy charm, too, but aren't lactose-intolerance friendly.

I was peeved at the Shoutoku thing. They did hear it and said it wasn't the right answer, but Shoutoku and Miko are the same person!Aw man, really? That's too bad. What got me was the oni question. Yes, there are three (confirmed) oni... Suika, Yuugi, and... Suiki, the kishin that tries to kill Seiga. Seija's profile even specifically states amanojaku aren't oni, if I recall correctly... And then my friend got one of the CDs with ZUN's music on it without being official, but it was said to be incorrect. But ah well. Coming up with a lot of Touhou trivia must be hard, and they did really well otherwise~

Wonder what the distinction is.
Aw man, really? That's too bad. What got me was the oni question. Yes, there are three (confirmed) oni... Suika, Yuugi, and... Suiki, the kishin that tries to kill Seiga.Just because a species name has the character for "oni" in it doesn't mean they're literally oni, any more than a Tasmanian devil is literally a devil. Vampires and snails (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sazae-oni) also have it. Kishin are probably a type of oni, but ZUN hasn't confirmed it.

Yeah, something people should probably keep in mind is that a "Touhou trivia panel" is probably one of the hardest things you can run, because if you botch it the crowd will let you know immediately and you'll never hear the end of it. Only three screw-ups (one of which came on a super bonus question that they ended up fixing later anyway) is respectable.Exactly my point. I loved their event and their cosplays regardless :V
(They should have really played Innocent Treasure when ZUN entered the stage, :V)You mean they DIDN'T?! What two-bit operation was this?
I call 'em like I see 'em.
Wow, I had no idea the communication at AWA was so atrocious. I definitely agree that they should have done room clears, even though I got the privilege of being early in the Saturday line and thus got to stay in a nice place for the whole series of Touhou panels that day.
Pretty good writeup. Something I keep seeing is people talking about "next year's AWA" but for me, it was just a chance to see ZUN. I spent way more time and money than I would have to just go to a convention. I think it was probably like that for a lot of people since the AWA staff was clearly unprepared to deal with the sudden influx.
Definitely the same for me. I am not flying all the way to Atlanta again for the hell of it, especially because the con isn't near anything else cool in Atlanta and I don't have a car.

Following the photoshoot was a ?Touhou Fan Panel,? which was apparently supposed to be about the fandom as a whole. It started off okay but quickly diverged into one huge circle-jerk with ?representatives? of the fandom from different regions of the country talking about the Touhou fandom in their area. Now, the way this should have been done is by getting in touch with the more well-known fandom leaders and having them submit a few photos or Powerpoint slides showing off their region?s fandom or whatever. But no, it was basically a circle-jerk around certain people for an hour instead. So I left.
