Title: Remidoki
Post by: Hinacle on April 12, 2012, 03:15:01 AM
Now that the english patch is out. I hope more people will play this game now.

<Tengukami> Low content OPs like this are not a good idea. Here, let's flesh it out a bit more:

For those who don't already know, Remidoki (http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=7801.0) is a platformer that's been around for a couple years now, and there have been folks dutifully working on an English patch. Well, your wait is over: the patch is out! (http://www.gensokyo.org/archives/2382) Now you non-Japanese speakers can finally enjoy this game to its fullest. Unless you don't understand English, in which case you probably can't read this thread anyway.

Here's a video of some gameplay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHuRyr6AdUg). Looks pretty fun, don't it?

I've been religiously wanted to try it, but was being stopped by not having an English patch (game is very story-driven). But I looked into the wiki, and it looks good, and not just a simple platformer. I just patched it and will be trying it shortly.

With the release of the english patch I finally decided to give this another whirl.
Just finished my way through the game and
Flandre mode.
Amazingly fun platformer.

How do you get the key in the chest in the dining room? The gap is too small to fit through.

It takes a bit of practice and positioning, but you can fit. Try jumping normally until you can fit in the gap.

What's the positioning? I've been trying since I saw your post and I can't fit in the gap.

Ancient, this game is. About 1.5 years old.
Thanks to the people who made the patch, the story was rather interesting.
And I didn't know F1 shows the hitbox before the patch, which is very helpful.
The item descriptions were also somewhat helpful, too.

The Vampire Ring is so good.

How do you get the key in the chest in the dining room? The gap is too small to fit through.

I guess you mean the one on the lower side, right?
First, you have to open the music door and clear the blue blocks on the right.
Next, drop the worm through the trapdoor somewhere on the middle-right.
The worm will break the lower block.

Slightly veering away from tips, etc.: With the amount of achievements available, some on the hard parts (like not retrying, etc), and with my limited time to play around lately, I'd even be happy enough to just finish the game.

On another note, hate those electrified blocks.

Took me a while to get the hang of those damn trap blocks, but with a combination of visible hitbox (press f1 a few times till you get the big rectangle one, thats for the blocks) and slow (think it was either hold q or e by default) they become a lot easier.

It's W... but still damn those blocks.

How do you focus/slow? I mean, I see the key in the settings, but holding it doesn't seem to make me move any slower. [Edit: Oh, it's only to fly with, huh.]

I've been experimenting around to find the best place to farm for energie and crystals for the achievements. By far the easiest is on the Terrace - just fly up, kill the one ice lady, and exit out the other side. It's really, really boring though, so I found a better method, at least in terms of fun - and I'm pretty sure speed as well.

I made a short video of it to show exactly what to do:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L2qHVRvlGs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L2qHVRvlGs)

Or if you can't watch: equip Red Boots & Destruction Choker. Go to Clocktower, 1st floor. Go up left stairs, fire 4 spears into the two visible enemies. Fly out, charge shot the one that survives on the left. You'll take a hit, but doing it this way gives a ton of bonus energie for all the shots on screen. Then kill the remaining enemy normally, exit and repeat.
If you ever run out of power, equip Shaman Earrings and Dark Brooch and wait for MP. Every time you get a bomb ready, replace Choker with the Gold Torque, and use bomb instead of the 4 spears. Replace Choker and continue.

Because I have them, the average energie/second numbers I have are:
First 2 enemies in Library: 42.8/s
First enemy in Closet: 54.3/s
Ice enemy in Terrace: 70/s
Clock tower method: 100/s NOT counting down time when you run out of MP.

If you're wondering - 500k energie is more than you'll ever need basically, but 30 crystals won't even get you to max HP/MP. Once you have enough energie, you might be better off finding a quick place to farm small enemies for crystals IF all enemies have an equal chance to drop one. But I don't know if they do.

Now, if anyone knows where and how I can get a 150 hit combo, let me know.

The 1st Clock Tower (separate scene from story mode) floor has many knights, stack them in one place, then move to the other side of the room and begin shooting once they can't reach you.

I had already gone through both Remilia and Flandre modes long ago. I didn't get too far in the Clock Tower mode before I moved on to something else. I had gotten most of the accessories, but didn't really know what they did, other than field testing them. Now that the English patch is out, I'm starting completely over for both the storyline and to finally know what the accessories do.

Man, I'm remembering just how challenging some of those rooms can get, if you're trying to get all of the treasures. Ah well. It's nice to fully enjoy the game now.

Still trying to contemplate if I want to get most/all of the achievements... will think about it once I finished the clock tower and flandre.

That got it in just a few tries, thanks. Didn't realize that would even count, since the tower has it's own achievement list. Now I'm up to 390/1000 on the main page!

So I have been playing this one recently, and I'm at 4 out of these 6 magic items in key items scattered across the mansion. The question is, where do I go next from here? I hear there's an anti-wind accessory that exists somewhere, and I would like a hint on how to get to the room with it. And is there anything else that you would suggest that would help me out?

And before you ask, yes, I have all 4 selectable spells plus both the higher jump and flying skill.

You should be able to get the remaining orbs. I can't recall where, but check where the room has a visible chest, chances are that's an orb. (one room has lots of wind, but the anti-wind accessory isn't required)

Wiki's got a full accessory location list:
http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Ojou-sama_no_DokiDoki_Daisakusen/Items

If you don't want to click cause of other items' spoilers, the anti-wind item says its in "Stock room 2." I think that was called Storeroom 2 in the English patch.

Another question, while I'm here: any tips on getting through
Marisa's 2nd spell (forget which it is) and Yukari's 3rd and 4th (Zen Garden & Border of Life)
, other than tanking hits and bombing?
Title: Re: Remidoki
Post by: Darth_Sirov on April 20, 2012, 06:05:32 AM
I've yet to get to Yukari, but for Marisa, you can try flying on the top of the room wait until the lasers fire, (just watch out for the stars that directly attack you), and then move down and attack once the 1st 2 lasers are done. If you're out of Drive, stand on the floor and just stream the stars).
Title: Re: Remidoki
Post by: Vilkni on April 20, 2012, 07:56:27 AM
Welp, looks like I didn't need that accessory to get one orb in the
Terrace, IIRC, because I thought the winds on the top where the chest was couldn't be gotten around
, seeing as I finally beat Remilia's route just now. And here I was thinking Bloody Square would be useless but the only actual boss proved otherwise. :V

Anyways, trying out Flandre - she completely owns mobs so easily with her ridiculous damage and starts with every spell/skill (wat?), as it should be, but the changed route and mp regen rate AND very limited healing items mean that it'll take a while getting used to it.

Also, I think I forgot to ask the controls for bombing, seeing as I never even used a bomb once. Welp!
Title: Re: Remidoki
Post by: Sungho on April 20, 2012, 08:13:42 AM
Z+A is bomb, I think.

Yukari's Zen Temple is completely aimed. Start on the far left side and tap up as you see the red stars approach your position.
You'll probably also dodge the purple stars, too.

I don't know what to do now. I've still yet to find Yukari (dunno where she is) or how to unlock Flandre (something about the clocktower, but all I found was a Gospel Ring) Any tips?

You should get Flandre after you beat the game and start another file.
Title: Re: Remidoki
Post by: Goldom on April 23, 2012, 12:15:51 AM
Flandre for main game unlocks when you start a new file. It's basically a whole different game too, though shorter. [Also: I've discovered the true best place to farm energie is in Flandre's "Toy Room." There's a strong enemy right in the door you can kill with 2 lasers, and a magic potion right above.] Once you beat that, you can use her in Clock Tower mode - which is different than the in-game clock tower.
Yukari is the boss in Clock Tower mode when you play as Yuyuko. She's not anywhere in the main game.

Also, here's a little guide I made for myself mostly - on the last floor of the Clock Tower mode, there are some pretty tricky worm eating block puzzles - they're not THAT hard, but if you get there on a no-retry attempt, you really don't want to screw up from such a thing. So I wrote down the correct steps as I solved them, and figured I'd post them here, because why not.

Quote
Clock Tower - top floor worm puzzles

"Target" blocks look like OOO and you stand on them to remove them.
"Destroy" means the blocks you can shoot out.

Yuyuko (left)
1. Remove bottom two target blocks
2. Destroy bottom left block
3. Release first worm on left
4. After worm is trapped, destroy block on his left
5. Release first worm on right, and destroy the block he gets trapped behind
6. Clear the target and destroy blocks (3 total) in a straight line down the center of the tower
7. Release second left worm, followed by second right worm

Yuyuko (right)
1. Drop first worm in the left chute, while it's moving right, to land it on the ledge
2. Clear all four target blocks
3. Drop second worm in the middle chute, while it's moving right
4. Clear all three target blocks
5. Destroy the block the first worm is sitting on
6. Drop third worm in the right chute, while it's moving right

Remilia/Flandre (left)
1. Remove target blocks left of IV and VIII
2. Release lower right worm
3. Remove last target block
4. Release upper right and upper left worms out the sides (not the center)
5. Release lower left worm

Remilia/Flandre (right)
1. You can't permanently fail this one unless you kill the worm, and it's pretty simple

ETA:
[attach=1]
Clock Tower ones gonna be a good bit harder though!

I've gotten through most of the regular achievements, and wow Flandre really owns.
Title: Re: Remidoki
Post by: Goldom on April 24, 2012, 02:09:58 AM
Well, that's that.
[attach=1]

Wasn't as hard as I was expecting. Remilia's Clock Tower is by far the easiest - I actually got the no-retry one at the same time as the no-HP-boost one.

Gonna miss this game now  :(

You sure work fast, hope I can do the same. So, am I to assume there are bosses at the clock tower mode? I've yet to left floor 2. (I am trying to do the no-retry as well, but keep dying still).

Also, tips?
Title: Re: Remidoki
Post by: Goldom on April 25, 2012, 02:31:51 AM
The only unique boss in Clock Tower mode is Yukari, who you face when playing as Yuyuko. The other two characters face their story-mode bosses at the end. I think they're slightly harder, but it's very slightly.

I wouldn't bother starting over and over trying for no-retry until you've done all the other achievements - after all, you may just happen upon it while doing something else like I did.

Other tips... remember that magic/bomb comes back while standing still, but health doesn't - so wait around and recharge rather than risk getting hit when facing dangerous areas. Use the spear through walls whenever at all possible - often you can even hit off-screen enemies if you're lined up right.
IMO, the easiest way to go when you are trying for no-retry is to play as Remilia, and take as your two accessories from the item rooms the one that gives increased Crit %, and the one that heals when you crit. With those, you'll get your health back during the boss as fast as you can lose it, really. Note that you start with several items, so you have those even if you never grab any candy in the item rooms.

Other than that, just the same stuff for getting through the main game. Turn on the square hitbox when navigating around lightning blocks. Don't forget that if you walk off a ledge without jumping, you can still jump after you start falling. This makes jumping to blocks straight above your head much easier.

Good tips, almost got it, but faulty moving platform pushed me out of the room. Will try again later.

Also, I seem to be missing the key for the stockroom 2 (basement), can't recall where it is.
Title: Re: Remidoki

I think it is in the Dining Room.

Thanks a lot... now to get more arcane crystals.

Also, Yukari is extremely difficult to do, especially with Yuyuko having the weakest basic attack (was doing the no accessory one, and it's pretty much impossible to survive when you're still learning most of her patterns). Suggestions?

Ok, so I finished all the achievements, but I am left with 1 more question. There is an item missing from Remi's inventory. Wiki states its Marisa's hat, but no directions as to where it is obtained.
Title: Re: Remidoki

Hm... I'm pretty sure that one appeared in all my saves as soon as I beat the game the first time, or sometime around there. I know it wasn't something I found manually, anyway.

Hm... I'm pretty sure that one appeared in all my saves as soon as I beat the game the first time, or sometime around there. I know it wasn't something I found manually, anyway.

So what does that imply? You're supposed to get it the 1st time? I should try to beat Marisa again and see, now that I maxed everything.

And now it does, must be something about getting certain things... quite possibly the one with regards to the completion of breaking all seals (as I mentioned that I lacked the store room 2 until recently)
