Right, so, there is a reason why I didn't join and it was because this is a rather complex theme to draw for. The word insubordination seems to have been interpreted widely here as 'do shit to your boss' which is................. not...... really correct. It's more of defying orders, which Kracko managed to convey with his art uw u (also, remi bullying is entertaining) Bound also drew close to it by showing Komachi protesting against her job... Kaze almost took my +1 here but I liked the motorboat sign

pieces like sixten's though, shows udonmyon leaving their respective masters (why... are there guns, i'm confused) which doesnt really fit my own interpretation of insub (i'm sorry if this definition is actually wrong) cuz there aren't 'orders' to defy

Kracko I love the expressions, and the concept fits great with the rather difficult abstract theme. gj

Kaze although your technique maybe needs some work (although you are fast improving!) the concept suits the theme well.

Sixten your theme is less 'insubordination' and more 'resignation'. A pity because I really wanted to vote for you but to me, it just doesn't fit the theme well enough.

I'm inclined to agree, though personally I would say that Sixten's work hit the nail on the head (well, more so than the the others). Using just a picture, it's not easy at all to give the impression of a direct order being, or having been, given (without resorting to text anyway, which I think is undesirable) and I don't get that impression from any of the pictures submitted here. It's not clear what's happening in Kaze's, and I think EP's and Kracko's both fall directly into the "do shit to your boss" category. Arkeden's, Sixten's, and Bound's, while not exactly showing a command being ignored, do show the characters refusing to do their jobs. Arkeden's loses out due to relying on text to some degree. Sixten's wins out over Bound's by having significantly more subtlety, and, from a technical standpoint, feeling like a more complete picture (background, fully colored, etc.)

My opinion anyway.

I guess the problem with insubordination is that it requires some context to fully convey the significance of the disobedience.
Googling resulted in anything from "a constant or continuing intentional refusal to obey a direct or implied order, reasonable in nature, and given by and with proper authority" to "Refusal or deliberate failure to carry out a legal [(i.e., not illegal)] assignment entrusted by a superior" to "not submissive to authority; disobedient or rebellious".
KrackoCloud conveyed the context with text, which I'm not sure about, but I liked the expressions.
Sixten's I'm less sure about because I'm not sure if quitting your job can be considered disobedient or rebellious.
The other submissions (haha) were more about strikes or revenge, and didn't really seem to capture the theme.
Which is to say that none of the entries really seemed spot on, so I'll just pick what I found most interesting this time.

(A little thanks to everyone who used signatures by the way, I found it really helpful. It also added that little tasteful-ness that completes a drawing)

So my question is can we use text in the future? Perhaps to add some backstory to submissions?

I wouldn't be surprised if we had a 4koma theme or something at some point. Text is fine, especially for interpretation themes. But less is usually better.

Also, that dialogue I wrote up came afterwards, after someone mentioned that Sakuya was still getting the tea into the cup.. so, so it doesn't count! :U

Both of them were really good! And I struggled a bit when choosing the best one.

Sadly we only had 6 entries this time... Which makes me regret being to lazy to submit anything.

Holding back!? I dislike the implication that I wasn't playing to the best of my ability. I would rather have it said that I left my heart on the court every season, but just didn't have enough talent to earn the Pasu O'Brien, even in a season where all the elite players sat out.

Anyway, if you're looking for suggestions, here's what I would've asked for if I hadn't choked in the finals (twice):

Week 6 Theme: Ball So Hard.
Requirements: One or more Toho characters in the act of playing a sport that requires a Ball.
Priority: Characters in motion displaying their skill and/or athleticism.
Optional: Relate your picture to a famous athlete, such as:

• Byakuren as the superhuman running back Adrian "Purple Jesus" Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings.
• Cirno as Serge Ibaka (jersey number: 9), forward of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
• Reisen (Udonge) as Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis star who has a contract with Uniqlo.

If the problem is "to draw any Touhou OC", Kracko could just choose the permitted sources, like some games or a list of characters.

Even if they aren't 2hu they are touhou related after all.
