> How periodic are we talking?  Wing flapping periodic?  Longer, shorter?

>A bit longer than that. Every couple of seconds, it's a rather soft noise.

> Do we recognize this as Yamame's skittering?

>No, it doesn't sounds quite like that.

>Try to move to get a better look down the ravine, keeping to the shadows while we do so

>You get a bit closer to the ravine, keeping close to a couple of crags in the floor, and peer down into it.
>The ravine plunges a good forty feet or so; much of it narrow and somewhat craggy. Water is pooled at the bottom, you aren't sure how deep it is, but you imagine it is probably brackish and not fit to drink. Moss lines much of the ravine walls, and you can see a few mushroom patches as well. The sound seems to be coming from a lone faerie, about ten feet from the top, who is plucking tiny mushrooms and putting them in a bag. She is small, probably no more than than a foot and a half tall, wearing a green dress that blends in well with the moss, and a hood that sports a set of canine ears, rather similar to the last faerie that you had seen.

Hmmm, should we knock her out and take her dress and ears too? or do we just snatch the mushroom basket and run?

Why are we mugging a fairy when we've established that we don't mug fairies because they aren't worth mugging?

Because this one's got food!
What he meant by that is probably that faeries never have any money or valuables of the sort, this was when the other fairy was asking to take our money and gems, after all.

They probably don't, because they're fairies. Why do we think this one is different enough to be worth mugging?

Potential rewards (or lack thereof) besides, note that we mug people by dropping down on them and smashing them into the ground. This fairy is ten feet from the top of a roughly forty-foot-high ravine and is hovering in mid-air. How is this even going to work logistically?

Well, even if it's been established that faeries usually aren't worth mugging, that doesn't mean we shouldn't do so if they happen to have something we want. This seems like a nice mushroom spot, so either taking what she's picked so far or scaring her away to pick our own would be a good way to get our provisions for the day.
The mugging of the dress and hood thing is up to whether you people want to infiltrate the faeries to see what's going on with them. Going after a guy who managed to take us out even though we took him by surprise doesn't seem like that good an idea for now, unless we're equally curious to find out what he's doing around here.

That doesn't answer the logistics question.

Totally missed that.
We're supposed to be pretty strong for our size, so giving her a flying tackle with our bucket could work. In case we're not confident of that being enough, we could make use of our stealth to sneak up behind her and knock her out with a rebar to the back of the head.

Cut by Desu_cake, so we might as well go with that. There seems to be a lot of these hooded fairies around so we'll find out what the deal with them is sooner or later.

It might be worth asking the fairy what's up with the hoods, especially if we've never seen them before. There could very well be something to them.

>Ignore the fairy and just gather some mushrooms. No sense picking fights over something if there's lots of it around.

>You consider mugging the faerie, then decide it's not really worth it to just for a bunch of mushrooms that you could easily gather on your own.
>You descend down into the ravine, and approach one of the mushroom patches. The faerie squeaks as she sees you and stops her own mushroom gathering. Then she looks at you with a smile and says, "Hey! Do you have any gold?"

>Like you have any stake in that! You really don't know, you've certainly not heard of any problems in the gold market. Then again, you also missed out on the time that all of the coinage in Gensokyo vanished just due to not having any. It wasn't until Nue told you about it that you found out.

Okay, multiple fairies wearing bizarre hoods we've never seen before using the same mannerisms to  ask for the same thing that's incredibly uncommon and unlikely to be delivered simply on request really makes me want to check in on the Ancient City. I don't like most of the directions this could be headed and I want a control group ASAP.
