Title: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Deranged on October 18, 2011, 04:30:32 PM
Fantasy Maiden Wars E, known as 幻想少女大戦紅, Super Touhou Wars, etc, has finally been practically fully (99.5%) translated, and the v1.0 of the English translation patch is now released.

The game is a Strategy RPG made in homage to the well-known Super Robot Taisen series that takes place in the time period just before EoSD, detailing the adventures of Reimu and Marisa as they set forth to investigate the cause of the sudden influx of scarlet mist.

As ever, please make sure to update your game to the latest version (1.1.2) and run the game in Japanese regional settings or AppLocale. And of course, read the readme, as well as the manual for basic gameplay functions.

English Translation Patch v1.02:
http://www.mediafire.com/?tgg2cgaa66ze63f
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=823C44DB

If you have downloaded v1.0, PLEASE UPDATE YOUR GAME, as it fixes potentially game-breaking bugs. To install the v1.01 patch, simply follow the same instructions as v1.0, except that there is no need to make backups of the v1.0 data files.

Changes from v1.01 to v1.02 include fixes to bugs where items in stage 8 and 11 would not drop as expected, and an expanded readme to provide more information on how to self-fix crashes and freezes.

Thank you so much for this. I already gave up and thought nobody would translate this and then suddenly we get a release out of nowhere. Great work!

Yeah, a translation for this game. This game seems pretty epic even in Japanese, now I can understand more of what they are saying.

Thanks for this translation but I found a bug already.  When using Sense, the alert part of the skill never wears off.

Yeah, I just went ahead and tested it. I started up the game, used Sense, and alert part never wears off.
This is true when you use Akyuu's Alert skill too. I haven't tried to use other people's Alert skills, but I assume it all works the same way and not wear off.

Noticed this yesterday too. It kinda beats the point of Reimu's stage 4, you don't even have to make an effort to protect Akyu :<

Thanks for the bug reports. The OP has been updated with v1.01 patch appropriately.

This is what happens when you accidentally put "Flash" instead of "Alert" when it checks to see when to remove the spirit effects...

which really bugs me, as I can't read that yet. (and it's slow going trying to learn.)

Bug Report:
Level: Trivial
Type: Dialog/Script
Version: 1.01

Pre-Mission2, Reimu, Normal Difficulty, during the Taiyaki Shop scene, I got an error message stating that some "text is longer than 3 lines". Clicking "OK" allows the game to proceed as normal, although the spillover that failed to show gets displayed outside of a textbox in the next immediate dialog frame.

Edit: I think you have a linefeed character somewhere. (If you've solved this already, did you forget this when you had to post a ver 1.01?)

Edit:  Another bug.  If Sakuya escapes in mission 3 Reimu route, the game errors.  I'll try failing again to see if this was a one time thing or reproducible.

Edit again:  kay it looks like it was a one time thing.  I couldn't reproduce it at all.

Well, I think you missed it or something, it is somewhat easy to miss. Look at achicken or Yden's post, do you see on the very top of the window for Fantasy Maiden Wars E?
It says Fantasy Maiden Wars E ver.1.1.2. Well for the Japanese version, it will be Japanese words then ver xxxx. You can also mouse over the exe file itself, and it will tell you the
version. I tend not to do that because in some games, it won't correctly give you that info.

According to the mouseover, it's 1.0.0.0.
I boot it up, and it's just Japanese text.

Here's a screencap I took on that first stage with Sakuya.

What in the world? Okay, so you don't have version 1.1.2 I know that for sure. Because you can see the version in the Japanese game.
The best way to figure out what version you are using is read the readme.txt, scroll all the way down. It should have a bunch of version
numbers. I'm guessing version 1.0.0 if you have nothing on changes in the readme.txt.

EDIT: I fear using mouse over, because I don't know when they started actually changing the info on the exe. If possible, try to not rely on that.

There's nothing about that there either, which is weird.
And every single updater patch I've found that can update it from 1.0.0/1.0.0.0 fails to work.
It keeps spitting out this weird error, "Unable to open udm file".
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Frog on October 20, 2011, 04:48:37 AM
I had the unable to open udm file, it means (or did for me) that there was japanese/special characters in the path name.
Rename it all to something basic and english and it should work.

In other news though this game is awesome in english. (those tile puns...)

Hmmm I don't know then, this is what my read me text looks like near the bottom, which will differ from yours.
Number 9. would be the version changes, and it'll list a bunch of versions. Number 7. would be Sanbando's website
where you get all the patches.

Hello.

I attempted to use this patch, but when I try to run the game I recieve the following error:

"ERROR in
action number 1
of Draw Event
for object ObjLaunch:

Error in function real()."

Can anyone suggest how to fix it? I did everything according to patch's readme, although there are several versions of 1.0.0 -> 1.1.2 patches, and I am not sure I installed the correct one (it installed just fine, though).

Apparently after getting the update working, it finally showed that. And the patch sorta worked, but it spit out the above error while on the loading screen.
I ran it through Google translate, and apparently it's Chinese. :wat:

That's the thing: the diff patches, the new ones that replaced all those individual exe patches which were taken down, don't work for everyone. I suspect a protection mechanism similar to Aquastyle's...

The solution is to go look for the old individual EXE patches, which as far as I know will prompt you for your install directory (and not look for an entry in your Add Or Remove Programs). Once you find them, apply them in the order listed here for reference:

gsw01_update_101.exe
gsw01_update_102.exe
gsw01_update_103.exe
gsw01_update_104.exe
gsw01_update_1041.exe
gsw01_update_105.exe
gsw01_update_106.exe
gsw01_update_107.exe
gsw01_update_1071.exe
gsw01_update_108.exe
gsw01_update_109.exe
gsw01_update_110.exe
gsw01_update_111.exe

which is available here https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=74b6893fc96f0667&sc=documents&id=74B6893FC96F0667%21537#cid=74B6893FC96F0667&id=74B6893FC96F0667%21606&sc=documents (https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=74b6893fc96f0667&sc=documents&id=74B6893FC96F0667%21537#cid=74B6893FC96F0667&id=74B6893FC96F0667%21606&sc=documents), under the GSW folder. Then finally:

gsw01_update_112.exe

which is still available from the dev's site, and is the only patch they didn't change.

Hmmm, what other suggestions can there be. Maybe reinstall the whole thing. It looks like it may be faster if you do just that.
I don't even know why it is showing that gibberish. Maybe try to have Japanese locale on while installing the patch? That might help, or
have Japanese language support.

I'm getting an odd issue that after you play (It runs perfectly fine when this is done).  Exit game by hitting escape and restart it the game runs extremely slowly. Only rebooting the computer fixes this.

Specs
i5-2500 Processor (3.30GHz Quadcore)
8GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate

Not sure what's causing this problem  Any idea how to fix it?

Edit: It seems to be sort of random.  Rebooted computer once and the problem persisted.  Rebooted computer a second time and the problem seems to be gone.  Will keep informed

@KasumiTani:
Did you accidentally click on gsw01.exe, then clicked on fmw01.exe. That was how I got that error.
I rebooted the computer and it works fine. I guess all you can do now is either mess around with it or
wait for a better answer.

Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release

@Starxsword:

Not eactly. What I did was:

1) Install Super Touhou Wars
2) ran gsw01.exe to make sure it works properly - it does
3) Installed 1.0.0 -> 1.1.2 patch AKA "gsw01_update_112.exe"
4) Installed English patch as instructed
5) ran fmw01.exe - error

After your post I attempted to reboot the PC and run fmw01.exe again, and still got the same error.

I'll now try to re-install everything without ever running gsw01.exe, but somehow I don't think it will help.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: achicken on October 20, 2011, 06:46:18 AM
KasumiTani, the 1.0.0 - 1.1.2 patch is NOT "gsw01_update_112.exe".

The above patch is only valid for game version 1.1.1. DO NOT USE IT WITH OTHER VERSIONS.

What you are looking for is "gsw01_update_100to112.exe"

PS: after you patch the game, do not run the english patch first. Run the game. Assuming you're patching from ver 1.0.0, if you're successful you'll see that your game's window will have the version number in its name. If you see no version number, or the version number is not 1.1.2, or the game crashes on launch, the patch has *failed*, do not proceed.

I still recommend going through all the individual exe patches instead of that single diff patch.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Kasumi Tani on October 20, 2011, 06:51:30 AM
Thanks, Achicken, but it is just mispell on my part - the patch I am installing is actually "gsw01_update_100to112.exe".

And re-installing everything and rebooting the PC afterwards didn't help, by the way (not that I had much hope that it would).

Some other ideas to throw out, though I doubt it will work. Did you set it in Japanese Locale?
Did you make sure the version you have is 1.0.0 before you install the 1.0.0 to 1.1.2 update?
Did you put the data1, 4, 5, 9 dat files in the data directory? Did you put the fmw01.exe in the
same directory as the game, gsw01.exe?
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Kasumi Tani on October 20, 2011, 08:19:12 AM
Did you set it in Japanese Locale?

Tried running it both normally and via AppLocale. The only thing AppLocale changes is that the error message is displayed in Japanese instead ^_^;;

Did you make sure the version you have is 1.0.0 before you install the 1.0.0 to 1.1.2 update?

Well, since I don't know Japanese, I can't read the original readme and confirm what version I have. But considering that the patch installs without any errors, I assume it is version 1.0.0

Did you put the data1, 4, 5, 9 dat files in the data directory? Did you put the fmw01.exe in the
same directory as the game, gsw01.exe?

Yup, I did.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release

Well, I mentioned earlier to another person about how you can figure out your version. Either mouse over the exe file and check if it says
1.0.0 or go to the read me and scroll all the way down. There will be a whole bunch of version numbers, if there are none,
then it is probably the original 1.0.0. I do think that you probably updated correctly.
I am guessing it is a direct x problem, but I have no clue, maybe someone else will figure this out.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release

Thanks for the bug reports; I'll wait to fix them into a patch until a major one comes in though. For the Keine Wife ability one, try pressing "Ignore" and just continuing with the game; that's probably the bug I mentioned in the patch_readme regarding certain Wife abilities. I believe the game will continue on just fine if you ignore it.

KasumiTani: Check your readme.txt, the bottom of the file should say something like this if it is 1.1.2:

 - 2010/08/14 ver.1.0.0
  - 2010/08/14  ver.1.0.1
 - 2010/08/14  ver.1.0.2
  - 2010/08/17  ver.1.0.3
 - 2010/08/23  ver.1.0.4.0
  - 2010/08/24  ver.1.0.4.1
  - 2010/08/31  ver.1.0.5
  - 2010/09/01  ver.1.0.6
  - 2010/09/18  ver.1.0.7.0
  - 2010/09/18  ver.1.0.7.1
  - 2010/10/01  ver.1.0.8
  - 2010/10/03  ver.1.0.9
  - 2010/12/12  ver.1.1.0
  - 2010/12/25  ver.1.1.1
  - 2011/03/19  ver.1.1.2

If it is not, try running the patch installer using Applocale too. Mouseover on the gsw01.exe also works to check your version number; I know for a fact that upgrading to v1.0.1 is reflected in the mouseover, so all after should be as well.

Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Kasumi Tani on October 20, 2011, 01:05:30 PM
Deranged, I checked everything.

Prior to patch, my version is 1.0.0, and after patch it is 1.1.2 (or, more precise, 1.0.0.0 and 1.1.2.0)

And, yes, post-patch readme says in the end:

  - 2010/08/14  ver.1.0.0
  - 2010/08/14  ver.1.0.1
  - 2010/08/14  ver.1.0.2
  - 2010/08/17  ver.1.0.3
  - 2010/08/23  ver.1.0.4.0
  - 2010/08/24  ver.1.0.4.1
  - 2010/08/31  ver.1.0.5
  - 2010/09/01  ver.1.0.6
  - 2010/09/18  ver.1.0.7.0
  - 2010/09/18  ver.1.0.7.1
  - 2010/10/01  ver.1.0.8
  - 2010/10/03  ver.1.0.9
  - 2010/12/12  ver.1.1.0
  - 2010/12/25  ver.1.1.1
  - 2011/03/19  ver.1.1.2"

And, yes, the English patch still doesn't work (tired re-installing everything yet again). When installing English patch, I copy data files into data folder, and everything else into the main folder. Not sure what I can possibly do wrong..

If it helps, when I ran the game after installing English patch, it intially displays black screen with "Girls are deploying", and a few seconds later I get a white window with an error message, i.e.:

I used to have this problem even back when I was playing the game in Japanese. Normally, restarting works for me when I had it.
The only other suggestion I can make is something is loading on your startup that may conflict with this game or it does not have
enough memory or something.
If I remember correctly, this is what happens to me when I try to play that game. If you start my computer and play it, it usually
works fine. However, if say I start my computer do computer stuff and maybe 2 hours later decided to play that game,
I usually get an error. The various possibilities that I can think of are something loaded in between or my computer no longer
had enough memory or cache or whatever.

A few things you can try:

-Press Ignore and see if the game loads anyway
-Delete your savedata folder if it exists
Ensure that your PC meets the following specs:
-Processor speed of 1ghz or more
-512MB memory (1GB or above recommended)
-Videocard with VRAM of 32MB or greater
-DirectX9.0 installed
-Ensure that the following files are in the game folder:
"CleanMem.dll" "GMFMODSimple.dll" "fmodex.dl" "GMBinFile.dll"
-Change your regional settings to Japanese instead of using AppLocale

Deranged, confirming Yden's Teacher L1 bug.
The error message can be ignored and the game will proceed, but it actually means "I can't find a target to attach this Wife Ability to". This means that the Teacher ability cannot be equipped and used. (Note: error message says that the reference YomeTarget doesn't exist in the object char_id; i.e char_id is valid, but YomeTarget is either not an array, is null, or undeclared).

Edit: Also, I attempted to give Reimu her first wife ability. This generated no error message unlike Keine, but that's where your documented "wife ability doesn't show as activated until next map" comes in.

Wife Bonuses are automatically equipped as soon as you unlock the first one; you don't actually have to select it to equip it (the red-orange marker denotes that it's equipped), and the option to go down and select the bonuses is only there if you want to switch between multiple wife bonuses. However, if you trigger that error, the ability does not show up in the Unit's status menu for that intermission.

Regardless, if you continued on to the next map with Keine's wife bonus spent and triggering that error, I believe you'll still see the ability pop up in her unit status menu and it activates correctly during the map, despite the error and it not showing up in the intermission. That is what I meant by the line in the readme.

I'm aware this isn't optimal behaviour, and I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to fix it, but assuming it plays out exactly as I said it, it shouldn't be as gamebreaking as the Alert bug.

Looks like a missing word here in Chapter 10.

It should be "and even if we take her ability out of the equation..."

The line before was "She's a troublesome opponent who can teleport."

Edit: Something else I noticed Chapter 10, when Daiyousei fights Sakuya.

The context of the 2nd line doesn't make sense if said by Dai so I assume it was meant to be a line from Sakuya.

Also when Cirno dodges an attack one of her lines is "Jusr as calculated".

Another edit:  After beating Sakuya in chapter 10, the ending talk plays twice.  Once normally then after the player units leave the map, it replays.  I'm playing F Final mode, if that makes much of a difference.

I was on easy mode to get a feel for everything, and it did that too.

And while we're on the topic of the later levels...What a rush.
Lemme sum up the final level in two words. Cherry. Tapping.
I can't believe I was crazy enough to have Dai get the lasthit, and what's even crazier was that it worked! Then again, Alice and Reimu were grazetanking
ripples
for 0 incurred damage.
By then all I had was Reimu, Keine, Dai, and Alice. Everyone else already got
Starbow'd, There there Were None'd, or Laevatine'd.

I did like the Batbashing game though, it was pretty fun! Would play again, definitely. Favorite level in the whole game, bar none.

Woot, I've been waiting for this one for some time now (IIRC you all said It would never come too, oh shit, who da foo now bish)

What's the story about it (the translation effort)?
From what I gathered/recall
1: 2Ch started translation on it, Deranged opted not to after hearing this, and started work on genius of sappheiros instead.
2: 2ch? stopped work claiming "it didn't need one"
3: 2ch? apparently started again some time later
4: No news forever, Deranged somehow got info that it was pretty much done however, and was just going thru some really serious bug fixing that would take an undetermined length of time. I don't know how he learned this, I sure as heck couldn't find this info even after he told me.
5: Deranged delivers? Was he working on it the whole time? Did he just take over the last bit? Does he have a super translator alter ego that he is pretending isn't him?
6: Deranged never really got around to answering my husbainfu proposal...

Edit:
I'm pretty sure mission 1 is bugged for Reimu. On turn 3 she says something like "blah I didn't want to use a bomb, but these wenches are strong"
The game then says "bombs are good cuz blah blah".
But...The bomb menu isn't there still.

I'll just start a new game with Marisa for now I guess. 'Specially since Reimu is broken good or bad depending on if you decide to use sense or not. Also, I doubt it's needed since it's so far done, but I'm still willing to help in any scripting way if anybody thinks it's needed.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release

Yeah, there's no Bomb on Reimu-1. You never get one, and the option in the menu is simply not there. I never noticed, tho, didn't need it (playing in @G difficulty).

Also, trivial text bug - if you want to go through the conversation history in Backlog Mode, you'll find that Linefeed characters are not applied, and the text escapes the right side of the screen. To make Linefeed characters show correctly while Backlogging, you need to Back to the previous quote, then Forward to the next quote (I don't remember if this is a problem with the unpatched game, but its strange that Linefeed/Wordwrap isn't applied when going backwards through your backlog, and only in that instance)

Is there a reliable way to beat mission 1 without bombing for the bonus thing though? I dunno the difficulty name, but I chose the "normal" one. Thing is reimu always takes 2 hits to kill stuff, so unless I can hit more than one at a time (aka a bomb) she can't nuke em fast enough. As for the turn 3 reinforcements (more like turn 4 since she can't get in range until 4), she..well.. misses half the time.. AND can't oneshot unless she crits with her closer range attacks. I found I missed 3 times and crit 0 though, blah.

I think a bomb is pretty much required to get the bonus thing unless you have really good luck.

Post by: Starxsword on October 27, 2011, 08:30:27 AM
If you are talking about the first Mission in Reimu's stage, I don't remember the bonus being too hard to get and I don't remember
bombing either. Just rush them and you should be able to clear it within 5 turns(I think that is the bonus requirement).
Remember, when Keine joins on turn 3(I think), she can heal Reimu with her skill, so don't worry about rushing.

Also let the fairies attack Reimu on their turn, and counter them each time. It's a really easy WP bonus compared to, say, stage 3.

Thanks to all who reported bugs/dialogue errors; I'll try to get out another smaller update that fixes these minor bugs in a few weeks or so. A few comments:

Chapter 10 ending dialogue repetition: I've heard about this bug from several sources now... but for the life of me, I've not been able to replicate it in my environment. Does anyone who's encountered it have a quicksave just before that dialogue by any chance?

-10 MP: I... wasn't even aware that could happen, heh. I'm going to guess it was in the none-patched version too, but I'll see what I can do to fix it. How did you even run Patchy out of her 360 mp anyway...?

Backlog Mode: This has already been stated in the readme, and unfortunately, I wouldn't get my hopes up that this will be fixed due to the way that wordwrap was implemented here.

Ghaleon: The dialogue at the start of stage 1 has Reimu claiming she's going to use a spellcard to wipe the fairies out, not a bomb; these two are actually very different in terms of this game's gameplay. The WP is easy enough to acquire if you, as others have alluded to, spam counterattacks on the enemy turns as much as possible.

As for the progress of the translation, long story short, I had contacts with the group when it started (but wasn't part of it); after some time, I found out that there wasn't much progress on it, so I got my way in, kickstarted it and completed the translation, then it went through a really long and bad testing and desperate fixing phase (yes, it was far worse than what it looks like now) until now.

Running patchy's mp out was quite easy actually.  Just very time consuming but I wanted to save my sp to kill Remi.  All you need is to have someone with high dodge(I used Reimu) at the edge of Patchy's range, Nitori next to them (or keine with support defend) and keep passing turns until she's out.  Heal with Dai as needed (with wife bonus one is best) and yea.  It's a bit annoying since Patchy's strongest attack only uses 20 en but it's the safest method to approach non moving bosses in any SRW type game really.  This one particularly since not everyone has access to alert or invincible.

But anyways, in theory if this works with Patchy's magic barrier, then I assume it would work with Alice's or Marisa's as well.

Wow, that is some patience. I just rushed and killed Patche. Then I slowly healed up everyone with Daiyousei before confronting

I would figure it's stuff like for marisa stage 2, choosing to talk to alice for bonus convorsation instead of beating her up or whatever.

Anyway, it's probably already known but bonus WP triggers do not seem to work reliably. For Marisa stage 1, I beat Momiji last, and no 5 wp, I figure maybe you have to get a lucky crit and actually bring her hp to 0 so I didn't mention it. But it happened to me again on stage 3. Killed every enemy but the boss, and again, no 5 bonus wp afterwards.

Also, I think it's probably not a bug OR a typo, but I thought it strange. Maybe there is an alternate translation that would make more sense? but when Marisa and Sakuya are talking smack about becomming head maid, Sakuya is like 'the number of people who have said that and failed... Is greater than the number of planets in our solar system!" Now unless Gensokyo has more planets in its solar system than I know about, that's like..saying... MORE THAN A FEW, which is kinda silly imo >=P

I'll assume this is the Sakuya stage. You must defeat her to get the bonus. This is very hard to do. You must bring her life down to
before she can run away, then you do a strong attack plus a support attack. Keine's headbutt support is pretty strong, so you can
try that.

For objectives that go "defeat", If you let her run away, no count.
You don't need a lucky crit. Momiji runs away at <2.5k health. Counterattack her during enemy phase with your strongest possible attack (helps if you're focused), and a Marisa w/Nitori support is guaranteed to off her on your turn.

Now I have no idea how to flatten Sakuya. The last time I tried that she Parried Monster Cucumber. >.<

Quick question guys, is Nitori's Support Defend supposed to kick in when she's Focused?

I'm on Marisa Stage 2, and when attempting to approach Alice, I've kept Nitori right next to Marisa, both characters focused.
Alice attempts to Artful Sacrifice Marisa during enemy phase, the Support command is enabled and says Nitori is Support Defending.
Now Nitori is supposed to jump in.
But what happens instead is that Marisa grazes the damage. Nitori doesn't do a thing.

This also happened in Stage 1 when I was dealing with Momiji with the same method.

If this is intended behavior, I find it strange and inconsistent, because Support Attack works, on my turn, in the same conditions.

Post by: Hanzo K. on October 31, 2011, 11:24:37 AM
The attacks do connect, but it's generally weak.
Take my playthrough for example. I made it to the final boss, and Alice and Reimu were so good at graze-tanking that they weren't taking any damage at all.
And by all means, I only had Focused Movement L2 on Reimu, Alice had L1. And yet the final boss's strongest attack wasn't doing anything to her.
And by all means, they were hitting. I dunno why there was zero damage on Reimu, considering as all I upgraded on her was Mobility, HP, and MP.
Alice is a bit more more believable as she had close to maxed Armor. But that still doesn't explain it.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Kairyu on October 31, 2011, 11:41:29 AM
Graze damage is calculated by the percentage chance to hit. If the chance to hit was zero, then it would have dealt zero damage.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Hanzo K. on October 31, 2011, 12:11:17 PM
Thing is, Alice was sitting on a 80-95% chance to get hit, Reimu was somewhere around 50-60%.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Starxsword on October 31, 2011, 01:14:25 PM
Did you get the Streaming skill? It will lower graze damage, but not by much. If not then it might be a bug? I dunno.
If the enemy has say a 50% chance to hit Reimu on focused movement, 50% of the time, Reimu will take the full hit. The other 50%
of the time, Reimu will graze the attack. The graze damage you take is the hit % of the enemy in question. So you will take 50% damage
if you successfully grazed the attack.
This is all mentioned in the translated instruction manual, so I assume it is correct. I know graze damage hurts a lot. I remember my
Cirno or maybe Daiyousei died from grazing Flandre's attack. I think I took like two to three thousand damage in graze.

Thank you very much, and for the handy quicksave as well.

For a quick fix,  move over gsw01_sys.sav to some other folder, then rename gsw01_sys_old.sav into gsw01_sys.sav. Apparently crashes can mess up gsw01_sys.save somehow. (the _old file is a backup copy) All your other save data and such should still be unlocked, I believe. I wasn't able to replicate the crash that you said happens at the end of the map though.  Metaflare, try this fix too and see whether it works for you (hopefully you didn't delete your savedata folder entirely).

Streaming...No, I think I only got that on Marisa, maybe Nitori, because I distinctly recall building Nitori as a Tank-y Super Type.
And since Streaming has a decidedly Tank-y bent, it's only logical.

Of course, it's not likely that it was a bug either, as by then the only survivors were Daiyousei, Reimu, Alice, and Keine.
Man...I really should've gotten a recording, those last few turns were really thrilling! It reminded me why I play SRW in the first place!
Man, I'm getting fired up again just thinking about it!
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: achicken on October 31, 2011, 03:09:54 PM
Hmm, interestingly, I'm able to replicate that condition again through an in-game save.
Nitori's Focusing is exactly what prevents her from Support Defending. It has NOTHING to do with Enemy Accuracy or Marisa's to-dodge.
Marisa is still a legal target for Support Defending even when Focused, as long as both of them are on the same "Plane" (Grounded or Air).

I made a copy of my save folder; choose Continue. This is Marisa 2 Normal, after Convincing Alice. The Fairy(B) will attack Marisa next turn, and she can no longer move or unfocus.
Nitori will not be able to get to Marisa's side if she Focuses.

http://www.mediafire.com/?9am31j21oagb2ai - try it yourself. Make sure to back up your save folder first! (Rename the extracted folder to Savedata to use, or just copy the files)

Edit: Eh, wait. The next attempt and Nitori fails to jump in again.
Interesting. It seems that Evade is still being counted, and that Graze is overriding the OUTCOME of the Evade, while still serving as a before-damage modifier. You can repeatedly run
that scenario with my file. The fairy has ~30% chance to hit, so it shouldn't take long to get a case of Nitori jumping in.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Deranged on October 31, 2011, 04:40:07 PM
achicken: Essentially, when focusing, "Graze" replaces normal evasion. Getting hit is still getting hit. Support defense only works while getting hit, and not while grazing (which counts as evading when focused). You will never evade "normally" when focused; you will always "Graze" and take lessened damage (unless the enemy hit % is 0, then you take 0 damage).

Assuming Nitori support defending Marisa, and enemy fires a 1000 damage attack at 32% accuracy:

Marisa Focused: 32% chance of Marisa Grazing and taking 320 damage, 68% chance of Marisa getting hit and taking 1000 damage
Marisa unfocused: 32% chance of Marisa evading and taking 0 damage, 68% chance of Marisa getting hit and taking 1000 damage

In both situations, Nitori will never support defend the 32% chance, but will always support defend the 68% chance, regardless of Nitori's focus/unfocus status.

This is also covered in the translated manual.

Hanzo, did you use Reimu's "sense" skill? I don't know about you but for me it's bugged. It's supposed to give you 100% evasion for one turn..Except that it seems to be for the entire battle/stage/level/whatever you call it instead of just 1 turn. That would give you 0 damage grazes for sure.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release

And even on the stages I did use it, she still took damage after the turn was up.

Alrighty. I, too, am having Sense's 100% continuously carry over. I'm updated to the latest version, but Reimu is basically invincible. No, actually, she might as well be. Something's amiss here. Wasn't this reported as fixed? She can easily clear stages on her own without being phased.

Another question. Where exactly is the save directory for the chronicles, spellcard data, sound test, and such located at? I can't find even the normal save directory, being unable to delete files. Only overwrite. I would love an answer on this.

Thanks for your time~
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release

When you use Reimu's Sense, you will see something on the status called: Al. I think that means Alert and gives you 100% dodge rate.
If you still see it after fighting an enemy, then there is something wrong. Did you check to see if Al is still on after one retaliation from
the enemy? I forgot which key allows to check the statuses on the unit, but I guess just press one until you see it comes up.

No, don't think so.
And even on the stages I did use it, she still took damage after the turn was up.
I have no idea then. Other than Streaming, I don't think any other skill lowers graze damage. And the graze damage you take is
proportional to the hit rate the enemy has, so you should be able to easily check how much graze damage you should be taking.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: Kiiharu on November 01, 2011, 02:43:48 AM
Indeed, I just tested the first mission in Reimu's story. I activated Sense on the first turn. By the second, the Strike part had worn off. The Alert part did not. It never disappears from the status, and likewise, dodge rate stays perfect. This also applies for protecting Akyu in Reimu's Chapter 4. Her Alert never wears off as well, making protecting her a tad redundant. So that playing the game isn't broken, I completely avoid using Sense and Alert in full, but it would still be nice to find a true fix. Reimu becomes rather weak without such a decent skill, given it would work proper. I do have the latest version, given it shows "ver.1.1.2" on the top of the window.

Again, I'll ask as well. If anyone can locate the save directories, I'd be appreciative. Changing the folder name that the .exe file is in treats it as if it's a whole new game. Deleting everything and putting fresh files into the folder retains save data (chronicles, last saves, and all), even though it's basically a "fresh install." This usually means it is taking from another directory, but I am baffled as to where this is.

Thanks again.

Edit: I've searched the registry as well, but I'm not sure how well I'm doing searching. Help would be most appreciated.

Do you have the latest version of the translation patch?

Uh... what do you mean? I started with my game prepatched. Would translation affect the game's behavior?

Yes, because ver 1.0 of the translation patch had that bug. Ver 1.01 solves it.
I've gone through Reimu's stage 1 and 2 myself and Alert status is used up correctly.
Grab the 1.01 update from the beginning of this thread, apply it, and try again.

Thanks, I'll do just that~

And I feel a bit broken asking over and over, but if anyone knows anything regarding the matter of the saves, please don't hesitate to let me know? I'll be checking back every now and then~

Kilharu: All data that isn't intermission or map saves are stored in gsw01_sys.sav (and a backup made in gsw01_sys_old.sav) in the savedata folder. The game does not affect any folders outside the main game folder itself.

Also, Translation Patch v1.02 has been released. Those who have not finished stages 8 (or 11), please apply it; those who have already passed those stages, I give my apologies.

Interesting. I don't have those files at all, let alone the folder. So then, how is it remembering? I can delete the whole folder itself, all files inside included, create a new one with the same name, put all fresh files inside, and savedata isn't gone.

Wait, so I gotta replay the game again? I...really don't want to....at least not now (is it worth it?). I've already gotten this far. And what are stages 8 and 11 again?

I imagine it fixes a bug only applicable for those two stages, and is apologizing for you dealing with the bug now that it's too late for it to be fixed for you.

Hi, quick question. I actually took a peek at the spoiler file, and was wondering if I'm missing something.

Entry #9
Position: Between Kourindou and Spellcard Rules
Condition(s): Clear Marisa's route chapter 2.

I'm on Marisa's route, and I'm on chapter 7 now. This entry hasn't appeared, even when i've met the conditions long before.
Also possibly related, but I suddenly have Aya's theme song in my music room, despite never having seen a single battle animation involving her.  (Reimu-3 was the furthest I've gone thus far)

I can't even get the game to work. It just gets stuck immediately after the first loading screen (So I can't even get to the title screen). Already tried a few things:

- Removed saved data
- Completely reinstalled everything
- Used compatibility mode
- Run as admin

But nothing. It already gave this problem yesterday, but I got it to run after reinstalling. But today, that doesn't seem to work. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Rebooting seems to work, but it would be nicer if I don't have to do this all the time

Thank you so much for this.  I'm no stranger to Super Robot Wars so I beat the game plenty of times over in the raw without difficulty, since they didn't really change much from that basic formula.  The plot was also easy enough to figure out from the presentation, but knowing what is exactly going on and being said is always great.

I do notice a few more typos here and there in the script but I don't remember their exact locations anymore.  Though I do remember there being one in the skill purchase menu: P-Evade's description says "...dodging and attack" instead of "an attack".

Though much more troublesome is the completely incorrect description of what the Sunflower potentially dropped in Ch 10.  In the patch it is described as restoring 10 SP per turn, like the Minmei CD of SRW Alpha 3.  But that's not what it does, it grants 10% MP recovery per turn (in addition to the flat 5 recovery per turn).

I think that one is really worth pointing out and I don't see that mentioned elsewhere here.

Anyway, thanks again for the hard work and I hope you'll be doing the next part when it comes out.

Heh, not many people can even get that item. Killing the boss that has it is super hard.
Title: Re: Fantasy Maiden Wars E: English Translation Patch Release
Post by: gtf234 on November 28, 2011, 03:22:03 PM
Really? I didn't find it that difficult.  I did have to restart the chapter since the actual stats of said boss were a lot tougher than I expected to be thrown at me in my blind first playthrough though, but the next actual  attempt ended with success.  I do admit, it's very much something you had to be preparing for from the onset of the game, I lucked out in that I pretty much never spend anything, so I had plenty of reserves to experiment with.

Assuming Alpha Gaiden difficulty, since that is what the average player would start on, the boss will run at 7500 HP.  There's two main ways to make that level of damage happen: Reimu's Fantasy Seal with Lvl 3 Youkai Buster supported with Keine's Headbutt, and Marisa's Master Spark with lvl 3 Danmaku Power supported by Alice's Shanghai Doll.  Criticals may need to be forced, which Berserk can help facilitate in the case of Reimu and Marisa- Keine and Alice, especially Alice, can naturally critical her with comparative ease.  If Fantasy Seal or Master Spark critical you should be good to go so long as it wasn't Shield Defended and the support hits.  Even without Berserk to force a critical with Fantasy Seal (Reimu CAN critical with it against her, but it's very very unlikely to happen) with a critical Headbutt should be enough if you properly reduced her HP down close to that 7500 range.

On F/Final and EX settings the thresholds are 8625 and 9750 - the same methods work on the higher difficulties, but they require appropriate adjustments in upgrades and skill purchases.  Marisa becomes the easier option to use on the harder settings since a critical with her can easily break 7000 damage.  I prefer using Reimu since Daiyousei can use Cheer on her for double EXP while Reimu herself can double the money gained, for a very lovely 50K.

You want to make sure all the parties involved have 150 morale, and basically want to kill as many of the mooks involved as you can before the boss spawns, since everyone destroyed afterward will give her morale.  Keine should have P-Damage, Reimu P-Evade, those help in the morale gains department rather well.  Alice gets excellent gains from dodging and should be fine without anything else.  The key if you plan on using Marisa is to never let her attack until you are ready for the deathblow- if it's not her first battle encounter with her, an event triggers when you use master spark; the first battle conversation preempts the event, allowing you to get the attack in without penalty.

I only use the four mentioned above to deal with her, everyone else just boxes Sakuya in to keep her from moving in and attacking them- she should likely just constantly target Daiyousei or Cirno, whom can easily be covered by Nitori if they fail to evade.

Quick bug report - Stage 10 has the Stage Complete convo replay itself, after Sakuya claims that she still has to "stop your army from getting..." It's very apparent that this should not be happening, because by the time Nitori states that Sakuya's fainted a second time, everyone ELSE has already /Retreated and the speaker is an empty tile. Fortunately, this repeat only occurs ONCE before putting you in Intermission, so it isn't an infinite loop. I can't screencap this reliably.

(And yeah, unfortunately I didn't prepare well for Yuka, so I can't kill her. Master Spark does less than 4k at 150 Power, and I didn't buy Reimu's or Marisa's wife skills, and nobody knows Hot Blood yet. My only hope is to scum criticals off an assist for BOTH attacks, and even then the assist has to come from Keine, who isn't at 150 Power. Ah well...)

Wow, nice. I assume this is the second part of Fantasy Maiden Wars.
Why is Komachi's name Shinigami? Is it supposed to be that way when you first meet her in the game?
And Flandre's usable? Her HP seems so much higher than the other characters. I wonder does she keep her regen skill.

>.< No, this isn't the next fantasy maiden wars. I just looked through the memory of the first game to enable hidden characters.

Komachi has her own theme music and everything, as well as wife bonus up to level 3. Flandre does have her regen skills in the playable version, but only levateinn. I can't enable Remilia or Yuuka, unfortunately...

Wow, that is pretty cool.
The Remilia part doesn't make any sense. Remilia is a playable character in this game. I believe her regen as a playable character got upgraded
to medium and she has over 10,000 HP. You can only use her for one chapter though.

Yeah, she's playable in a field map, but I can't add her to the list of characters in the intermissions. I'll try, but no promises..

So this is Komachi's wife upgrades:

She has active portraits + sprites that have all the animations (hit, attack, etc), which I think indicates that she was definitely a possible playable character that got cut. Hopefully we'll see her in the next version.

MYSTERIOUS SHINIGAMI is playable for one scenario in Sakuya's route normally.

Her Wife Bonuses are the exact same as Keine's, presumably for nothing much else than show.

Oh, I just read the Japanese wiki, and you're right. Apparently you get to play Komachi in Sakuya's final episode 0.0

When I enable the characters in 1 save, unless I hold it constant through an external application, they don't stay after the battle.

SO...

I've prepared a save for each chapter that has10000000 points/2000 WP/2000 Graze with all characters enabled at lvl 20 for every stage for Reimu and Marisa's routes in lunatic difficulty. You can choose the upgrade/skill/WP level for every battle. Note that points/WP graze might fluctuate depending on the save - no guarantees. This is kinda a backup for me too - so that I"ll have something ready when a new release comes out.

Here's the dl:

http://uploadmirrors.com/download/JFDYJYKK/hidden_character_saves.zip

Just backup your old save folder and extract it in your save folder.

The save at savespot 99 is an "ultimate" save clear data for Marisa's route and has characters with 1000% upgrades, lvl100 unfocused movements, etc etc.

Note that most WP bonuses for the hidden characters don't work, except for lvl1 sakuya and lvl1-3 Komachi. And In the stages where new characters appear for the first time, the new characters will have old stats and not the lvl20 stats. Just how the engine works I'm afraid.
The hidden characters won't stay for your next battle, so if you want to keep playing, just load the next save after you finish the battle.
There may be some overupgrades that slipped by, though I changed back what I could. They were done for testing purposes, so it's your choice whether to use them or not.

I included my sys save too, in case they aren't compatible with uncleared games. Side effect is Sakuya's route should be open from start, but eh. If you're downloading this you aren't adverse to spoilers, amirite?

If you guys can use these saves to update information on the wiki regarding the statistics of the temporary playable characters, I'd appreciate it.

These were all done with testing in mind. Any comments about "cheating" will be ignored.
I take no responsibility if these saves cause any adverse affects on your game.

Hi there.

In the recent reitaisai, the group that made the original version (Sanbodo) just released the new version, titled Fantasy Maiden Wars "Maiden". It appears that it deals with the MoF patch, and has a lot of new exciting features. You can check it out in their blog:
http://sanbondo.blog81.fc2.com/

or translated: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsanbondo.blog81.fc2.com%2F

Some videos of their attacks are already up!
Kanako and Suwako's attack:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14ovnjOPFpk
Reimu and Marisa's combo attack:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZyXXbWebNM

I really, really enjoyed the first game. Is there any plans at all for you guys to translate the new game? I'd be willing to help in any capacity I can, but I barely know much Japanese...

Please, I ask you to consider translating the new one...

I agree.

Also, one question. I beat the final boss in Reimu's story a few weeks ago. However, after the following scene, everything went black for a pretty long while. I assumed the game crashed and I had to close it. Did this happen for anyone else?

Yes.  I reloaded, beat the game again and it worked.

In wrapping up a less sloppy playthrough of the first game in preparation for the second part, I noticed something pretty troublesome.  It seems the patch changes what the final boss carries as her drop.  It should be an Oni's Fang, but instead is an Oni's Nail.  As far as I know, it's the only one in both games too, so the carryover gets kinda borked.

It definitely think it's the patch because I tested my save files on a clean install without the patch, and it's correct.  I install the patch, restart the chapter, and she's now carrying the wrong item to drop.

I guess I doubt the patch will be revisited and corrected, along with that nasty incorrect description of what the Sunflower does, but I might as well put that out there since there's going to be a lot of people porting their data over to the next game.  So you all might want to make sure to get a save file to transfer over with the correct item drop in Ch 15.

Sorry for posting in an old thread, but I've got a few things to say about those saves provided. First, the download link for them is no longer valid for all 8 websites provided.
Second, trying to play as the temporary characters (Akyu, Komachi...) or characters from Sakuya's story in the main game doesn't work. They simply don't appear on the unit selection screen. You only get the 8 permanent characters you usually have as options to choose from.

Quote
When I enable the characters in 1 save, unless I hold it constant through an external application, they don't stay after the battle.
I believe this is the issue. Without this external application, you can't actually even choose those characters. So I've been wondering if it's possible to either share it with us or update/modify the saves provided so we could possibly use these characters.
Once again, sorry for posting in an old thread but I figured it might be worth it to mention these points.

Okay, I finally feel like playing this again but I am running into a problem I had a while ago.

I start the game, it begins loading, screen flashes black for a second, then it finishes loading, but...

When it starts it has a frame rate of like 3. It is virtually unplayable, and nothing I do helps.

This problem also persists on the non-translated version, but I remember it happening less often when using the RAW game, hence why I am asking in this forum.

Thanks in advance!

I was having the same problem happen recently too, and it turned out to be an issue with my gamepad of all things. If you've got one plugged in, try taking it out and seeing if that fixes things.

More specific info, in case it helps: I use a PS2 controller though a USB converter, and my converter does this weird thing where it causes the computer to recognize it as two controllers, even though it's just one. I went into device manager and disabled the redundant controller so it'd stop showing up when configuring things, but I had to reenable it to get this game to work properly. This is the only thing where it caused any kind of issue, and I have no idea why it happened.
