Title: Touhou for busy people translation project [IaMP patch released]
Post by: Arknarok on October 20, 2011, 05:02:45 AM
Welcome to the "for Busy Person" translation projects thread. This is where I try to translate Kasugasoft's "忙しい人のための~" games with the help of DennouNeko and other random people.

Revival of http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,8232.0.html ?
I haven't heard anything of yozaku or whatshisname since though.
Don't games that use the KiriKiri scripting engine use xp3 packing?
I can't check to make sure since I haven't actually found copies of the games yet <_<

Packing is one thing. They can also use encryption to protect files within the archives. While encryption is generally done with just xoring (but not necessarily so), the xor key selection algorithms can be different.

To reiterate what I've said in opening post:
it's possible (easy even) to unpack and decipher the files. I have all the files extracted, deciphered and ready to edit.
BUT, I haven't found a way to make them into a patch, the game won't accept edited files. I tried to feed it its own file, encrypted with its xor key, and it worked fine. But if I change even 1 byte within the file before encoding, it stops working.

Therefore, I will use an "alternative" "way" to translate the game. But if you can completely hack the encryption, that would be great.
Title: Re: Touhou for busy people translation project
Post by: MrBigz on October 21, 2011, 08:28:57 PM
It's probably because it does an MD5 or other checksum on the files as well (or checks only for the specific XOR key). I'll try taking a look in the exe, but I doubt I'll be able to do anything, I don't have quite that much experience with disassembly.

Can you give some sample XOR keys to check for, and what files they are for?

scenario/1 プロローグ.ks - encrypted with A0.
scenario/2 スタート(霊).ks - encrypted with 80.
image/alice01.bmp - encrypted with 20.
image/alice01_me.bmp - encrypted with D0.
sound/ali_0000.ogg - encrypted with 50.
sound/ali_0001.ogg - encrypted with 20.
bgm/bgm01.ogg - encrypted with D8.
bgm/bgm02.ogg - encrypted with 60.

Here, hope you can do something with it.

UPDATE: I changed 1 byte in scenario/1 プロローグ.ks and tried to bruteforce the correct key after that. I actually did manage to do that (the correct key turned out to be 80). Looks like ks-files are encrypted with 4-bit XOR.

UPDATE2: I can now tell that it's perfectly possible to replace japanese text within the files with other japanese text (you'd have to bruteforce the XOR key though). But if I put english text, the game hangs. Any ideas?

Here's an update for patching:

It is possible to patch once you bruteforce the XOR key. They are 4-bit for .ks files (the only ones that need patching), so it's not that hard.

If you replace japanese text with other japanese text, the game works fine.

If you replace character names with ANSI english text, the game hangs.

If you replace character names with SJIS full-width alphanumeric english text, the game works fine.

If you replace other text with ANSI english or SJIS full-width alphanumeric text, the game hangs.

I assume it's the engine's problem. It's still impossible to make a patch just like that.

NOTE: There actually are points in the game where it prints out SJIS full-width alphanumeric text. I have no idea how that works, the game just hangs if I try doing that.

Wait, which game in the series were you doing?

Also, do you know what fonts are used for character names/dialogue/etc? It might be that the font doesn't support full-width 2 byte SJIS characters. If that was the case, it's possible to change the font to support it; I did exactly that for Touhou Hack and Slash.

The first one (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil for Busy Person).
The game uses Comic, Mincho or Handwriting fonts. I think Mincho has the most complete set of characters, so I don't think it's the font problem. Again, as I said, I could replace character names with full-width 2-byte SJIS, so they are supported. Even the game uses them occasionally. I just don't know how to make the game not crash when I insert them into the text box.

Yes. I just can't figure out why the game hangs if I put english text in...

While the standard Kirikiri engine can display English text, it does not know
how to word-wrap automatically, since Japanese text doesn't require it.  To
enable this, it is necessary to patch several Kirikiri system files (see
below) and to preprocess your script files with the xp3-wordwrap tool to add
wordwrapping hint commands.

Could it be because the text is going too far off screen and causing it to crash?

Highly unlikely. Even if I just try to print out 1 english character, it still won't work. Even if I copy the phrases, containing english characters, from other parts of the game, it still hangs when loading the file.

Meanwhile, translation is slowly moving along as I've "completed" Reimu route stage 1. I put completed in quotes since... well... my translator's skills suck.

I'll be opening my "alternative way" of translating the game in November.

Sorry for that. The post got detached from the previous thread, so it was a bit out of context. I hope it's easier to understand now.

I would try to help more with the english characters issue, but I'm too busy to dive into anything too complex what with school and my own projects, sorry.  :ohdear:

I guess the only thing I could suggest is to try to find people who had similar issues while translating a game with the KiriKiri engine.

One more part of the game is finished.

I also opened up the project, read the first post to see how am I going to translate it without hacking the game.

I'd offer to help with the translation process, but I'm worried I may not be much better a translator than yourself. But two heads are better than one, right?
I'd be happy to offer editing/proofreading though since you mentioned English not being your first language.
Any chance you can dump the scripts?
Title: Re: Touhou for busy people translation project

I don't actually have the scripts. I got the idea that scripts might be useful too late, so I decided not to have them altogether.

It seems like there are also places in the game where ANSI English text is used. I just can't get how it's supposed to work, since it means the engine does support English text.

While I won't be making a translation patch for this game, maybe someone should try figuring out how to patch the games, to help with translation of other games from the series.

Title: Re: Touhou for busy people translation project

Another stage finished, first post updated.

My current plan is to try and make Reimu's route playable (that is, to allow you to complete the game as Reimu) by the end of the year. I'll start with Marisa's route in 2012 and hopefully complete it in spring (I'd like to translate it a little slower than I do now). So there's your estimated release date. But if you want to play it right away - the development version (which will become the release version) is always there.

Time for an update. I've got good news and bad news.

The good news is, I've finished another stage, see first post.

The bad news is, YouTube new style has screwed up the annotation editor. It looks nicer now, but is much less usable for hardcore annotating projects (like my translations). It's way too troublesome to use it to translate the game from now on. Therefore, I had to switch to using hardsubs. And here is the problem: once hardsubs are up, little can be done about them. You can't turn them off in YouTube if you want to help me with translation. And even if you come up with a good idea about some part of the game, I'll have to redo the video locally and reupload the whole part if I want to change it. So I guess you can't really help me with the project anymore (except for the earlier parts, I have no intention of redoing them using hard subs).
Title: Re: Touhou for busy people translation project

And another part is finished. There's not much left until Reimu's route is fully playable!

Post by: Arknarok on December 15, 2011, 05:32:13 PM
Ending finished. You can now complete the game if you choose Reimu's route!

I'm sort of tired of translating this game at high speed, I'll be taking a break until 2012. I'll start working on Marisa's route in January.

If you want to help me with translating Marisa's route, now is the perfect time to do so - PM me and I'll hand you the scenario files.
Title: Re: Touhou for busy people translation project [Halfway there!]
Post by: Arknarok on December 24, 2011, 09:39:38 PM
A bit of updates.

1. I recalculated my progress on the game translation based on the fact that I use ver. 1.11 game files. The first few episodes might have been from earlier game version, but it shouldn't really matter.

2. My account on YouTube is, unfortunately, not in good standing anymore, which means I am no longer able to make unlisted videos. In order to keep the progress consistent, all game videos are now public. They are still meant to be played in order as dictated by the in-video links (NOT the numbers in video titles).

I looked at the bmp files (cause their format is simple) and there seems to be 32 possible XOR keys.

There's 0x00, 0x10, ... 0xF0, and then there's 0x08, 0x18, 0x28, ... , 0xF8
No obvious pattern though.

I included 0x00 because some files are simply not encrypted.

The following images use the same key 0xE0

title_bt_load.bmp
win_bt_skip_2.bmp
rumia01_me.bmp

The following images use 0x38
fkoakuma01.bmp
fremi02.bmp

Maybe analyzing the files can produce some guesses as to why they use the same key.

As I've learned, I also can't upload long videos on Youtube anymore, so I'll have to create multiple-part episodes again.

In other news, Youtube has changed annotation styles yet again. I wish they would stop doing that, I have about 3 or 4 annotation styles in my videos that were used over the time of development.

Another stage is complete, progress updated.

Since there's nothing else to report at the time, here's a translation of the character introduction page (I'm sorry if I got the CV names wrong):

----

Hakurei Reimu

Voice actor: Hirada Yuki

The main character. Following the original games' style, acts cool but unreasonable, which makes her act as a tsukkomi.
Being extremely poor, she starts to act differently once money is brought up.
Since she's not being ordered by someone very powerful, she acts all busy and having no time to be involved.

----

Kirisame Marisa

Voice actor: Mochida Sarasa

The second main character. Has a straightforward attitude. Doesn't listen to anyone. Aims to use other people for her own profit. Heretic.
Once situation goes out of hand, threatens people with Master Spark. Beats up Alice without mercy.

----

Shameimaru Aya

Voice actor: Ichihara Shinano

While she wasn't featured in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, she acts as Reimu's partner on her route. Will do anything for information that could be used in her newspaper. It's unknown whether it's her personality or just an act, but she acts as a boke. It doesn't look like she's trying to consider the circumstances. Tries to avoid difficult situations with dry laughter.

----

Alice Margatroid

Voice actor: Norano Nego

While she wasn't featured in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, she acts as Marisa's partner on her route. The basis of her personality is a common tsundere. However, she turns into a pervert when Marisa is around. Alice is eccentric, but Marisa is cool, so she either ignores or Master Sparks her.
Once she's dead, she quickly respawns at her house and runs back. She's like Kenny.

----

Rumia

Voice actor: Nagase Emiya

A childish character. Nobody knows what she's thinking about. Is that so~?
She probably likes candy more than human meat.

"Soo, I am from Zushi".

----

Cirno

Voice actor: Norano Nego

An idiot. Her personality was altered and dissolved through hypnosis, but she's still a stupid brave girl type of character.

"The ones who achieve extreme foolishness can surround themselves with an aura! Or at least a rabbit said that a Hakutaku said that."

----

Hong Meiling

Voice actor: Amami Touko

An ex-gatekeeper/gardener promoted to an indoor maid. Basically, she does the same thing as Sakuya. But she has a much more earnest personality. We didn't use the name jokes much so she's a pretty plain character.

"I want to see how I do once I act with all my aura. Whether it's any different."

----

Patchouli Knowledge

Voice actor: Yanase Natsumi

She's not much of a hikikomori since she leaves her library pretty often. And she goes outside, too. But she's very weak and doesn't go far. She is pretty gentle, but she is capable of spitting poison as well. She says "mukyuu-mukyuu" when excited. Or when she wants out of a situation. She took over the initiative in Remilia's prank. She also makes weird inventions.

"Listen to me, mukyu!"

----

Izayoi Sakuya

Voice actor: Amami Touko

The tsukkomi of Scarlet Devil Mansion. She is the piece that holds the Scarlet Devil Mansion together, though her body is getting worn out by this.
She will gladly take part in anything as long as it isn't more important than Remilia's life. She is a type of person who likes to give absurd orders to her subordinates.

"Add 'U~' at the end after saying anything! Do you get it, maggots?"

----

Remilia Scarlet

Voice actor: Yamakawa Kotomi

Uncharismatic Mistress. An egoistic childish Mistress. Her lack of charisma doesn't even bother her. She'll do anything if she thinks it'll entertain her. If she's in trouble, she always relies on Sakuya or Patchouli to help her. She likes Reimu, but she's not head over heels about her. Gets dazzled if hit by sunlight.

"Th, that thing! U~, u~!"

----

Flandre Scarlet

Voice actor: Ichihara Shinano

Even more childish than her sister. Simple-minded. She's not actually crazy. But she does live in the dungeon.
With that said, she doesn't appear much in this story.
She likes Reimu and Marisa and earnestly waits for them to visit her.

"When will they come..."

----

Daiyousei

Voice actor: Mochida Sarasa

A middle boss who likes Cirno a lot. She likes pranks, but isn't smart enough for them. However, she manages to pin the blame on Cirno when their pranks are exposed. It's hard to say if she can stand on her own or even if she acted before...

"That wasn't me, that wasn't me!!"

----

Koakuma

Voice actor: Amakawa Isuzu

The librarian of the Scarlet Devil Mansion library. It's not clear whether there are many similar Koakumas there. She's a quiet and calm character, but likes to tease Patchouli. She can also say a few insults occasionally.

"Next time! You'll definitely succeed next time!"

It is finally finished.

All the game content is completed and uploaded to YouTube, the game is fully playable.

Here are some fun (not really) stats about this project:

Unfortunately, most of the in-game tips were lost in translation. Those are author's comments and explanations on certain parts of the game (explanation of various cultural aspects, word definitions, comments, etc). A lot of them were never translated, sorry for that.

After some thinking about whether I should translate the Extra stage (I mean, the Extra game), I decided to actually do it.

And the reason is this: http://i40.tinypic.com/34tbcj9.png

I wish I could do that earlier, but what's done is done - I'm not going to redo all the work I already did.

I'm not planning on giving frequent updates on EoSD for Busy People EXTRA translation status, I'm just going to (slowly) translate it.
Title: Re: Touhou for busy people translation project [EoSD extra in progress]
Post by: Arknarok on March 15, 2012, 07:45:19 PM
The translation is still in progress. I got about 85% of content translated. For now, here's the translated character introduction page:

----------------

Reimu Hakurei

Voice actor: Hirada Yuki

The main character this time. However, this time, she's not that easygoing. If she takes initiative, it's to resolve some conflict. However, she can still do anything for money. Even some obviously poor deals.

Marisa Kirisame

Voice actor: Mochida Sarasa

Serves as a host this time, but she doesn't have a job of her own. As usual, she's the thieving soldier of Gensokyo. You can do anything, when you have the power.

Patchouli Knowledge

Voice actor: Yanase Natsumi

The now-homeless Witch of the Seven Days. Often says "mukyuu-mukyuu" to everyone. She was originally assigned the role of a follow-up to Marisa, but since her skills aren't particularly useful, she just gets scolded a lot instead.

Flandre Scarlet

Voice actor: Ichihara Shinano

Devil's little sister finally makes an appearance. She's a girl who can't stop having fun from finally meeting with everyone. She is acting dangerous, but since she's so adorable, noone is able to get serious with her. She will usually choose Patchouli or her sister for her attacks. She's clearly winning at life.
Title: Re: Touhou for busy people translation project [EoSD extra patch complete!]
Post by: Arknarok on March 18, 2012, 06:36:00 PM
The translation of EoSD for Busy Person Extra is complete!

Get the patch here: http://www.mediafire.com/?v4m7i74gwm690lx (version 1.2, fixes text flickering) . Then drop it into the game folder. It's intended to be played with game version 1.6.

Other versions:
http://www.mediafire.com/?v4m7i74gwm690lx - version 1.1. First version by DennouNeko, features image translation.
http://www.mediafire.com/?dqqpdzylpv32r1q - version 1.0. Initial version.

Detailed explanation in FAQ form:

Q. The game doesn't work.
A. Kirikiri games often need AppLocale or even system locale shift. You may have to do it.

Q. Do I need v1.6? Where do I get the 1.6 patch?
A. Short answer: yes. Get the patch here: http://kasugasoft.daiwadaw.jp/patch/ikex_p1.6.zip . When it prompts for a folder, select your installation folder.
Long answer: not really, but it wouldn't hurt. Most of the changes are reimplemented in the translation patch anyway, but some are left out. If you're not using 1.6 patch, make sure to rename translation patch so the game can pick it up.

Q. The patch won't load (I don't see the translation).
A. Make sure your file names are correct. Kirikiri will first load file patch.xp3 from the game folder (that is, the folder where ikex.exe is in). Then it will look for patch2.xp3, patch3.xp3, etc. There must not be any breaks in numbers. If you have patch.xp3, patch2.xp3 and patch4.xp3, the last one won't be loaded. Similarly, if you don't have patch.xp3, no "numbered" patches will load. The file patch1.xp3 will never be loaded.

Q. What do I do in the main menu?
A. Paint skills to the rescue: http://i.imgur.com/A4sLy.jpg . The "Extra" option is only available after you clear the game once. New version has english menus.

Q. What do I do in the extra menu?
A. http://i.imgur.com/h8Zf2.jpg New version has english menus.

Q. What do I do in the settings menu?
A. http://i.imgur.com/K1OQO.png . New version includes english settings window.

Q. What does settings.exe do?
A. It allows you to configure some general Kirikiri settings. You generally don't need to touch anything there.

Q. The words are flickering when there's animation.
A. That's the word wrapping method problem. It doesn't work well when game attempts to redraw text, which it does every time there's animation. I'll try to do better next time (if there will be one).

Q. How do I save?
A. The game doesn't save automatically. There's also no save menu (that was added in PCB for Busy Person). Use Shift+F1~F12 to save and F1~F12 to load.

Q. Are there any other hotkeys?
A. Most hotkeys (except for save/load ones) were removed from the game. You can still use Space instead of clicking. Here's an additional patch that restores some hotkeys: http://www.mediafire.com/?2jhk0kbk8dl0w41 . Keep in mind, they were removed for a reason, they tend to be faulty (especially skipping). With this patch, you can use A for Auto, F for Skip and R for Log (there are other keys as well, but these are the most important).

Q. The game crashes when I try to start a new game after interrupting another game.
A. It's not my fault, it's just a game bug.

Q. I thought the characters would talk faster (like in the videos).
A. Starting from EoSD for Busy Person Extra, the series includes "normal" and "fast" voiceover modes. The game will start in "normal" mode by default. To make it load in the "fast" mode, you need to enter a code during Kasugasoft logo screen when the game starts up. The code is different for each game. There are usually hints in previous games or videos that accompany the game. Try to guess the code yourself. (If you don't feel like it, this time it's
the Contra Code - Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A
.) You have 5 seconds to enter the code. If you do it correctly, you will hear a sound.

Q. I don't get the whole "reply answering" thing.
A. Between the "main" and "extra" game, the developers collect feedback via a special form. This feedback is then addressed in the extra game. While I write this, the reply form for IN for Busy Person is still up: http://kasugasoft.daiwadaw.jp/isohito/eiya/mail/index.php?type=eiyaenquete . It's pretty much the same form that was used for EoSD and PCB.

Alternative translation patch: http://www.mediafire.com/?9b4qgc4788ih8iq

This one uses a different word-wrapping method. It solves the problem of flickering text, but introduces a few new ones:
- Word wrapping might not work correctly for the first line after you load a save made with another patch.
- Word wrapping doesn't work for Log.
- Due to some bug in EoSD for Busy Person Extra engine there's less space for characters with this method. You may see some text leaving the text frame boundary, if you're unlucky. (This problem seems to be fixed in PCB for Busy Person. Or maybe I just didn't encounter it.)
- This patch doesn't work with hotkey patch - they will break each other in various ways. If there's demand, I can make a new version of hotkey patch that will work correctly with this version.

You may want to use this patch if text flickering really irritates you.

I've started work on PCB for Busy Person (see 1st post), but since my image editing skills suck big time, I'd really like someone to edit images with text for me. If you're interested, let me know.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for your hard work.

I'm new at this forum, but I may help you a bit with the images.

As for patch itself, it's based on your YouTube videos and right now all that's left to do is some spell-checking (few friends are helping) and adding TL notes in places where there were no author's "tips".

Wow, those are really cool, I'd definitely appreciate your help.

PCB project will take a while though (if I try really hard, I may finish it before autumn), so don't rush it (if you want an immediate effect, you can edit the images for the EoSD Extra game, we can make a new patch that way).

New version of EoSD for Busy People Extra patch has been released!

Get it here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?v4m7i74gwm690lx

This release was made possible because of DennouNeko's image editing and patching skills. Most of the image text has been replaced. Some other things were fixed.

This release uses the original word wrapping method (not the alternative one).

For various reasons it took a bit longer than expected, but here it is: English patch v1.0 for EoSD for Busy Person game.
It's based on Arknarok's YouTube videos with some authorized and unauthorized modifications.

You'll find it here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?9z16q9bdl6r762w (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?9z16q9bdl6r762w)

About the patch:

Warning: It seems that loading saved states with F1~F12 keys (the "save anywhere", also present in Extra) may cause the game to crash when starting new game, so be careful with this. If you used the save/load keys, it's safer to restart game before pressing "Start".

Also, it haven't been long since previous one, but here's English patch v1.2 for EoSD for Busy Person Extra with updated word wrapping.

Looks like I haven't posted in here for a while.

PCB game translation is going steadily, I've recently finished translating Reimu's route, which means that about 57% of the game is translated. All of the videos of that route are on Youtube already (that's almost 7 hours of videos!), you can watch them, if you want.

I'm taking a break for a month before I continue translating the game. All things considered, this project will be finished around mid-October.

Post by: Arknarok on July 20, 2012, 11:32:30 AM
The game translation is till going steadily. I guess this project might get completed before October.

Anyway, character descriptions translation time:

----------

Saigyouji Yuyuko

Voice actor: Ichimura Oma

Master of Hakugyokurou. Gentle and idle Mistress. Watches over the actions of other. She doesn't do much herself, she's mostly following Yukari.

Konpaku Youmu

Voice actor: Sawatari Yui

Hakugyokurou's gardener, has a very serious personality. Cannot really stand up to Yuyuko's selfishness. She's usually qualified enough to act as a boke, but sometimes it's too much for her.

Yakumo Yukari

Voice actor: Amemiya Safu

Youkai sage of Gensokyo. She is pretty sinister, but she usually can't think of anything proper. She thinks a lot like Marisa, but acts a lot like Remilia. She can't deal with surprise complications and often can't think through. Likes Reimu.

Yakumo Ran

Voice actor: Aoyama Ichiko

Yukari's shikigami. The most normal and serious person in Yakumo family. More or less allows Yukari to have her way, but makes jokes about her. She often misinterprets Chen, it sounds like she's talking to someone else when she replies to her.

Chen

Voice actor; Mayuzumi Kaoko

Ran's shikigami. She looks like a kid, but she's a calm tsukkomi. Calm at all times. Can't talk in the beginning of the game for some reason. Likes Ran. Reveres Yukari.

Letty Whiterock

Voice actor: Ichimura Oma

Acts as Cirno's older sister. Usually calm, but snaps when the topic of her body is brought up. She also snaps when her body isn't brought up, but she thinks it is. That's why she ends up looking angry most of the time.

Prismriver Sisters

Voice actors: Mayuzumi Kaoko (Merlin), Nagase Emiya (Lyrica), Kashiwagi Chihaya (Lunasa)

Lunasa: the eldest sister. Most serious one of them, acts as a tsukkomi.
Merlin: younger than Lunasa. Boke. A very cheerful trumpeter.
Lyrica: the youngest sister. Prone to personality swings. Very mysterious.

Shanghai Doll

Voice actor: Nagase Emiya

Alice's doll. She's pretty serious, but often says bad things. She's always anxious because of her worthless master.

Lily White

Voice actor: Rutile

A fairy who puts all her efforts into announcing spring. There are many fairies like her, though they look the same. She also has a black-colored evil version.

Flandre Scarlet

Voice actor: Arise Hinana

Even more childish than her sister, Remilia. Careless. She's not crazy, but often tries to solve problems with violence. For the time being, feels attached to Marisa.

And everyone else: Remilia Scarlet, Hong Meiling, Daiyousei, Alice Margatroid, Kirisame Marisa, Hakurei Reimu, Shameimaru Aya, Cirno, Patchouli Knowledge, Izayoi Sakuya. Voice actors for these characters haven't changed.

The game is 100% translated now.

The rest of the videos will be uploaded to Youtube during September.

In total it took me about 5 months to finish translating.
Total video runtime is about 11 hours 40 minutes.

The patch is intended for game version 1.9. If you don't have the 1.9 patch, get it here: http://kasugasoft.daiwadaw.jp/patch/isoyou_p1.9.zip

Please use EoSD Extra FAQ if you have any questions: http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,11099.msg805268.html#msg805268

The password for unlocking fast voiceover is BABAA this time. YouTube gameplay videos use fast voiceover.

Reply from Kasugasoft came today. I'm allowed to upload gameplay videos up to stage 3 (or up to 50% of the game if the game has no stages). I'm going to reopen access to YouTube videos that fall under this rule.

Translation patches (including English patch) are completely okay with them, feel free to use those.

btw, I think the official patches were moved some time ago. You may want to check the links, especially for EoSD Extra.

I'll go through the rest eventually and release the patch.

End of year update!

Well, let's start with the most important news...

Yeah, I won't be able to produce a patch until the end of the year. There are no delays, I'm working at a reasonable pace (around 5000 scenario lines/week), but the scenario is just too long (I'm about 75% done at the moment). If everything goes well, you can expect a release during January 2013. Then again, real life is about to hit me very hard. I really hope I can finish this project before that happens.

For now, I've decided to translate character introduction page.

----

Yakumo Yukari

Voice actor: Amemiya Safu

She wasn't really present in main PCB scenario, or in PCB Extra for that matter, but we feature this ha--... the head of Yakumo family anyway.
Tried to confuse others by calling herself the "Youkai Sage".
She's really beautiful when she cries after being bullied by her relatives and friends.

----

Yakumo Ran

Voice actor: Aoyama Ichiko

Yakumo family's voice of reason.
However, she causes a lot of troubles since she's only interested in Chen.
She is really overprotective and because of that often gets angry at others.

----

Chen

Voice actor: Mayuzumi Kaoko

Yakumo family mascot. Also, their shadow leader.
For better and for worse, often acts uncontrolled.
She is usually modest, but often makes situations worse by acting absurd at times.

----

Remilia Scarlet

Voice actor: Shirotori Fuuka

Scarlet Devil Mansion's mistress, overflowing with charisma and tantrums.
For some reason Yakumo Family has decided to live in the SDM and cause them troubles, but she still tries to enjoy the situation.

----

Patchouli Knowledge

Voice actor: Yanase Natsumi

Tsukkomi witch from SDM's library.
Yakumo Family causes her problems as well, but she still enjoys the situation.
Except for all the noise in the library, she hates it.
Watching her being angry is becoming the latest trend in Gensokyo.

----

Izayoi Sakuya

Voice actor: Amami Touko

Worthless and elegant head maid of SDM.
All she does is tell off Remilia when she tries to order her something.
She looks cool, but it's just because you can't understand her thoughts.
Tells puns as soon as she thinks some up.

----

Shanghai Doll

Voice actor: Nagase Emiya

For some reason, she has left her master behind and came to participate.
She's one of the few people with common sense, but she swears a lot.
As always, she is a tsukkomi who jumps in every time someone tries to look silly.

Disregard the previous past, somehow I made it in time!

English patch for Perfect Cherry Blossom for Busy Person Extra has been released.

This patch is intended for game version 1.2 - get the official patch here: http://kasugasoft.daiwadaw.jp/patch/isoyouex_p1.2.zip

Then get the English patch itself here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ydc3yhugbudscq2 (old v1.0, link no longer works)
http://www.mediafire.com/?braplhu14v54bkt (v1.1)

Drop the patch inside the game folder and you're done. Enjoy.

As always, the game has two voiceover modes - normal and fast. Normal is loaded by default (this is the one I used for Youtube gameplay videos this time). To make fast voiceover load, type "ICBM" during Kasugasoft logo screen (you should hear Yukari's rambling if you do it correctly).

I would like to thank DennouNeko for images and commenters (esp. 321agemo) for proofreading.

Thank you for this and all your previous patches, this is excellent work! (I registered just to tell you that)
I only recently found that English patches for the 'For Busy Person' series existed, so your patches gave me an excuse to play EoSD and PCB (for Busy Person) again. This is a good thing.

Do you plan to eventually tackle StB for Busy Person? (I would personally love to see a patch for IaMP so my friends can appreciate Suika, but all things in their own order)

StB patch is highly likely, since it's a very short game (2.5 times shorter than PCB Extra). I'll start working once I get through finals and everything.

IaMP... well, as you said, all things in due time, we'll see when we get there.

Thank you for your support.

You're probably still in the middle of finals or something, but do let us know when it all ends and if you start on StB. I'm kinda curious on how you choose to handle some wordplay portions, specifically a couple of hilarious misunderstandings between Remilia & Sakuya ("Eh?" "Eh?")

Drop the patch into the game folder and you're done.

This time there aren't any official patches, so it's a bit easier.

As always, there's a combination you have to enter at Kasugasoft logo screen if you want fast voiceover. This time it's up, X, down, B, left, L, right, R. You have 5 seconds to enter that.

Just as always, I'd like to thank DennouNeko and 321agemo for not allowing these patches to suck.

I just remembered I forgot to translate the character introduction for Shoot the Bullet, so here it goes.

Flandre Scarlet
The shadowy despot of the SDM?
In case of any problem, use brute force.
For some reason, she is the main character, not the tengu. Like her sister, she doesn't care about details. Today she's out to innocently cause troubles to everyone else.

Remilia Scarlet
"Stop bothering about details!"
Remilia has forfeited her role to Flandre.
Leader/mascot of the SDM. Maybe she has finally grown up, or maybe she's just tired, but she has entrusted most of the work to Flandre this time.

Izayoi Sakuya
Daily life of SDM's head maid.
Never caught working.
SDM's head maid. Today she will, as always, have weird conversation with her master Remilia while having tea.

Hong Meiling
Kidnapped SDM gatekeeper.
As plain as always.
After she was made the gatekeeper again, she was abducted by Flandre and forced to accompany her. Flandre named her the assistant, but in the end, her life is a neverending failure.

Patchouli Knowledge
She's getting abused a lot this time.
Library lunatic.
Somehow, the seven-colored with became a regular character. She's always either in conflict with others, or in denial.

Koakuma
Really takes the best out of her life.
Loves teasing others.
The librarian of SDM library. Loves teaching Patchouli. It looks like she lives just to get sent back home.

Shameimaru Aya
She's the main character, but...
She doesn't appear in the game.
At all.

*Blows off the dust*

Well, this thread has been dead for a while.

I had a couple of important things to sort out in real life. Now that's they've been dealt with, time for another round.

Immaterial and Missing Power translation project has been started, thanks to the ever-awesome DennouNeko. For now you can follow the progress on YouTube, starting from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNM9QoYfimM. I don't want to give any dates or estimates at this point, but the game is roughly 30% shorter than PCB for Busy Person, so there's that.

Update.

I'm still alive and so is the project, it just takes a while. The Youtube version is finished and you can play a bit over 50% of the original game there.

Now to finish that patch...

The recent changes in my life made it a lot harder to work on this patch. I'm still doing it, but I can't possibly give an estimate on when it's going to be done. Maybe not this year.

Post by: Arknarok on November 06, 2013, 09:47:17 AM
Since I have some time now, might as well do the character introduction.

----

Ibuki Suika

Voice actor: Itou Sara (starred in some eroge)

The lazy, good for nothing oni girl who never appeared in the series before this game. However, she overcame all the obstacles and triumphed as she was appointed the main character this time. However, be it the fate of all main character or her ever-drunken nature, trouble follows her no matter where she goes.

----

Hakurei Reimu

Voice actor: Hirata Yuki (minor role in Mushishi, shop clerk from Growlanser, Fae from World War Blue)

Originally supposed to be the main character, but is an underling this time. Not that she cares about that, as she keeps her watch over the safety of Gensokyo and the contents of its inhabitants' wallets.

----

Kirisame Marisa

Voice actor: Mochida Sarasa (no other known roles)

The magician who lives for the power of her Master Spark and stealing others' books. It's a bit hard to say what kind of role she serves, but she does pretty much everything in her own interests, as long as she can avoid danger.

----

Remilia Scarlet

Voice actor: Shirotori Fuuka (no other known roles)

The master of SDM, a girl with overflowing charisma. Never willing to enter the event, but always eager to party once it starts. Often gets called in various situations in order to fail inevitably. That's just how she is.

----

Patchouli Knowledge

Voice actor: Yanase Natsumi (pretty much the biggest celebrity in the cast, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natsumi_Yanase or the Japanese version of the article)

Library-dwelling, mukyuu-muttering weirdo girl. You would expect her to be a know-it-all character, but she gets the sad role of complaining about the mood being weird. And of course, someone is going to ravage her library this time as well!

----

Izayoi Sakuya

Voice actor: Amami Touko (no other known roles)

Useless maid of Scarlet Devil Mansion. Her pun power keeps declining endlessly. Recently, she has more or less forgotten how useless she is (which, of course, made her even more useless). Makes tea for Remilia, says weird things, wastes time.

----

Hong Meiling

Voice actor: Amami Touko

The ephemeral gatekeeper of SDM. Always appears when you don't expect her, either as a regular gatekeeper, or the gardener. Does a lot of footwork but rarely appears.

----

Alice Margatroid

Voice actor: Norano Neko (appeared in some eroge)

The pervert we've all missed (?) for some time. She's a puppeteer, but acts by herself. Shanghai has left "on a journey" so she's alone and is trying to reconsider her actions. She goes to various places, trying to rediscover herself. And of course, she gets a lot of weird looks from others.

----

Yakumo Yukari

Voice actor: Amemiya Yuu (best known for playing Huang Zhong in Koihime Musou animes and games)

She always looks like she's planning something, but she mostly thinks of nothing at all. She always acts like there's deep meaning behind her actions, but it's not true. She's just a lazy youkai with the power to use gaps. She's supposed to be friends with Suika, but sadly, even Suika doesn't trust her. Her shikigami left her.

----

Saigyouji Yuyuko

Voice actor: Ichimura Oma (another renowned actress, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oma_Ichimura or Japanese side)

Boke master of Hakugyokurou you know and love. She always wants to do something, but ends up doing nothing at all (another lazy character). She has a dark side to her which randomly surfaces, shocking people around her, but that's what a ghost's life does to you.

----

Konpaku Youmu

Voice actor: Sawatari Yui (eroge actress)

Yuyuko's faithful gardener. Nobody saw her tend to the garden. Her main skill as Yuyuko's servant is dodging her orders. She looks the most normal of all the characters, but gets tricked easily. In other words, she's not too experienced.

----

Cirno

Voice actor: Norano Neko

Non-canon IaMP character 1.
Appears for some reason, plays around a bit for some reason, goes away for some reason. Occasionally has mature opinions.

----

Letty Whiterock

Voice actor: Ichimura Oma

Non-canon IaMP character 2.
Acts alongside Cirno, and the screen is once again too small for her. Always snaps easily.

----

Daiyousei

Voice actor: Mochida Sarasa

Non-canon IaMP character 3.
She seemingly clings to Cirno, which is why she randomly appears a few times.
She is seemingly calm and docile, but often acts crazy.

I'd like to announce that I've finished translating the game's scenario. There are a few more materials translation patch needs as well as some testing, but in any case the patch is much closer to release now.

Thanks for your hard work, looks like I can look forward to this patch before next year. :)

Release time.

This is the English translation patch for Immaterial and Missing Power for Busy Person.

In addition to patch being a translation, it also fixes a few issues that were present in the original game. Please use it together with the official 1.2 official patch (get it here: http://kasugasoft.daiwadaw.jp/patch/isosui_p1.2.zip).

Link to the translation patch: http://www.mediafire.com/download/0hyoieww7dwrcpj/patch2.xp3 (v1.0, do not use)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/8xgymyom6l44gvx/patch2.xp3 (v1.1)

Drop the patch inside the game folder (make sure file patch.xp3 is also present - that means you have the official v1.2 patch installed).

The game has two voiceover modes - normal and fast. If you watched the YouTube version, you've seen what normal mode looks like. Fast mode is closer to Kasugasoft's short videos. Normal mode loads by default, in order to switch to fast mode you need to type a secret code during the 5-second "Kasugasoft" screen at startup. The code this time is "PLANB".

As always, I'd like to thank DennouNeko, 123agemo and other people who helped or encouraged me in any way.

PS: The v1.0 translation patch might still have some typos or errors left. If you see any - report to me via PM. V1.1 patch is out, use that one.

I'm not entirely sure what part of "my work" you're planning to use, but you're free to use anything you find inside the patches for your own translations.

I mean your translation, sorry if it made you misunderstood what I was trying to say.

Thank you again.

i'm currently playing through the second half, so the next time i'll post will be after i've completed the game.

The patch has been updated to fix all the typos that 321agemo found.

Except for the "totesh shorry" - Suika is trying to talk with "hip" accent in that scene. I've changed it to "totes shorry" for clarity.

Also, the new patch includes the fix to a bug that sometimes causes the game to skip the route selection options altogether, directing you to a bad ending automatically.

You're very welcome. I'm occupied with another one of my translation projects at the moment, but I should be able to do IN4BP Zenya patch eventually.

I want to say the same as the person before me.
Originally I got this game just on a whim, because the cover looked interesting. I didn't know about any translations so I played on full japanese first. Even though the game was full of Kanji Puns and huge references that are hard to comprehend for foreigners, I had a really big laugh at jokes I understood and just loved the cast of their voice actors.
After playing EoSD for busy People I ordered the PCB and IN-Version (which was pretty hard to find in online-shops). A short while after, I stumbled upon this thread and gave your translation a try. And I have to say, you really did a great job at this. Most of the jokes are still funny in the english translation with a bit of exception to the ones that just can't be translated (like the Kanji-Puns, one in EoSD with Meiling saying "shousha na shousha Sakuya san" and Sakuyas answer "kyouin no kyouin" which you translated to "breathtaking breasts" to keep the joke in english (I think it was really something like menacing breast-measure or something? Please correct me if wrong.)) but I think it is better to keep it this way.
I hope to see the IN Zenya-Part translated soon.^^
Would you be interested in having some help with translation? I already played part of it and would like to help out in making this. I can't speak perfect japanese, but I have been teaching some japanese to myself so I'm confident to be able to do some translation work.

...
Thank you for you words.
To be fair, much of this project is me trying to improve my translating skills. This is supposed to feel inconsistent, experimental, amateur and bad. Because that's what it is.

EoSD is a great example of something even I consider absolutely horrible at this point. But yes, you got the joke right, except it was kyoui no kyoui.

I hope as well, I just need to find a week to focus my mind on it. So far, no luck. But I still have hope.

I'm afraid using a team to translate a VN is a bit hard. It's probably best if we leave one translator per fan-VNs for now. But thanks for asking. You're always welcome participate in testing, though! (Especially closed tests)

Well, that is okay, I still wish you good luck with the project. Motivation is a fickle thing, I know exactly what you mean from similar projects (not translation). :D
The whole thing would also be consistent, if one person does it.
I still would be glad to help out, even if it is just for testing. ^^

Is there some way I can contact you? Skype, etc?

You're missing the latest one: Phantasmagoria of Flower View for Busy Person. It has 2 editions: voiceless and voiced (newer). Pretty soon pofv extra will be released as well.
