FIFA 2010 World Cup - South Africa or BZZZZZZZZZZZ
« on: June 11, 2010, 08:19:46 AM »

The Opening Ceremony takes place in a few hours' time. So who else is going to be keeping a close eye on the games for the next month? Any teams you're watching for, matches you're looking forward to watching? Who do you think will make it to the next round, and better yet, who do you all expect to take away the World Cup this year?

Of personal interest to me is the first match, Mexico vs South Africa. Oh, Mexico, I can't wait to see you utterly fail right when your fellow countrymen are expecting the most out of you. :V

I'll look forward to Germany whining when they lose and then claim that they would definitely have won if it wasn't for the injured players~   >:D

Wanna put a bet on the opening losers? I'm kinda feeling the odds against me though but there may be a miracle in it and they draw.

As nice of an image this is (Hetalia~) it's 400 KB. Well, the damage (to my bandwidth) is already done so...

Australia hm actually, this looks harder to guess than I originally thought considering the match-ups.
...wait New Zealand has its own team? I never knew that  :V

I might keep an eye on these games. Might, because I'm strained for time. To keep the Aussie Pride thing going since we seem to be rare on MotK, go Australia!  \o\ /o/ \o\

My interest is mainly based on the fact that Chile classified after 12 YEARS of not being on a world cup. Hooray!

Opening shows in under an hour. Get yourself in front of a TV. I'm still at work, dunno if I can go home early today. If SA are gonna win, 2-1.

I AM at work and we already set up a TV to watch the whole thing. Talk about football-crazy people.

And I went to buy some pastries and snacks as well... Gonna be a long day and since it's cold, coffee will be our best friend.

Oh, yeah, we are suppossed to work today too but I think most will overlook that fact. :P

- Wait for England to get out of group stages or lose in a penalty shoot-out AGAIN

Anyways, fucking supporting Spain because Casilles in the keeper and he is my goalkeeper idol.

I want Argentina to win and Portugal to lose in the group stages to prove those critics that Messi really is the best player in the world and C.Ronaldo is just a fucking over-payed party boy.

Problem is that Maradona is coaching, and they aren't doing well with him around by their standards. Well, at least Portugal is playing like shit as well and Brazil is gonna beat them pretty hard.

In b4 THE MESSI CURSE

Last time they were unlucky because Germany injured Abbondanzieri and didn't get a call for it (the refs in that 2006 World Cup were pretty bad, but I don't expect them to be any better this time though). But Sergio Romero seems like a good keeper this time. He's young and helped the Argentina U20 team win the World cup in 2007, so I can see he's gonna be alright for this time around, I just hope the defense is as well.

God, journalists have a Messi-mania here (I'm from Argentina by the way). Gotta agree with the Maradona issue. I mean, last year in that conference I KNEW he was going to say something epic/terrible/disastrous and boy he delivered but... No, I don't like the guy at all. He played well and all in the past but from that to making almost a deity by some people it's plain silly. We can't live just of that, jeez.

Anyway, I like Palermo and Ver?n despite the infamous "attitude" back in 2006 in the Korea-Japan World Cup.

To make things worse, the manager is an ex-football player and my father is an ex-referee so both are going to be crazy during the match. They love football, they can NOT stop talking about football.

Is that the one where he said that he'll streak on the streets if they won the whole thing?

Nope, the one where we managed to get into the World Cup. He sat in silence in front of the journalists, half of them with a well-known hatred towards him and he started throwing the most hilarious insults (impossible to translate to english with the same level of hilarity) but what was even funnier is that besides all the cursing he said "and I apology for the women present"... and he kept on cursing, bwahahaha. My father couldn't stop laughing. And he's always a serious business person.

The bad thing is that in a matter of months, his vile influence changed the way people talk. Half his quotes are of common use now.

The football-related phrases, catch phrases and one liners are a constant here. Heck, even commentanting that someone is crazy can be said as "le faltan un par de jugadores" ("he lacks a couple more players", it doesn't make sense in english).

Certainly looking like Ruro winning the wager.
