Looking at the whistle properly, you see a few symbols on it - two small buttons labeled RELEASE and AUTOMATIC, and a gauge running along its length.
After a few hard puffs, the gauge is roughly half full. Nothing's happening, though. When you move your lips away, bubbles pop out from your end and the gauge starts to lower again. You have to give it another puff to bring it back to 50%.
