From the title screen and screenshoot, looks like the gimmick this time involves little floating orb dudes (who are red, green, and blue like ufos)

Considering that he has to have worked on the game for a long time, the popularity poll cannot possibly have affected the playable character choice here at all.

It looks almost cemetery-ish from the screenshots. And was Reimu's gohei always that big? It seems to be channeling Elly's spirit in the title screen.
