Took ⑨ credits to get to Larsa on Maniac what the heck
It's my first time playing with a stick anyways.
And to add insult to injury the friggin' A button got stuck for the entire 2nd boss and the 3rd stage and I screwed up with 3 bombs in stock like 3 times in a row.

Oh ... the place doesn't have Daifukkatsu, by the way :fail:

What I like most about CAVE shmups is the relatively reduced emphasis on memorization. I did a great job on ESPGaluda Stage 3 and 4 despite never having seen them, and I'd like to think that part of that was skill as opposed to luckshitting everywhere. :V I used to think that the emphasis on streaming was really boring, but now I understand. Also, when do the score extends occur? Because I died with a score of 6.5 million - I assume that's pretty pathetic, although I have tried my best to play for score.

And while I'm sperging out, what do you use to play NTSC-J PS2 games? I'm looking forward to playing Galuda at home, but can't find a way to play a Japanese game that seems reliable. And what kind of joystick would you use if you're not going to go with the (admittedly terrible) controller?

And while i'm sperging out, where did you guys get gamepads from? Play-Asia?

Look at the title screen of the game you're playing. Many games will note how many points you need to get extends there.

6.5m is fine considering you've only just started and are concentrating on survival. Galuda's extends are at 4m and 14m, and there's a hidden one at the end of Stage 3 you get by shooting a black orb near the end of the ship in Kakusei mode.

As for controllers... I just stick with the default pads for both PS2 and 360. The PS2 d-pad isn't as nice as the 360 one, but both can be hugely improved with the use of friction tape. Even without that, though, they're pretty much fine after some getting used to; I managed the DOJ 1-all on the PS2 controller quite a while ago, and if it's accurate enough for that it's accurate enough for Galuda. :V

On a similar note, just tried Galuda again, and got a 3 miss 1cc. Could have been two miss had I not died with a full bomb stock on the final attack. :derp: Ah well, no missing to the clones was nice.

So you don't use the analogs? I'd think that allows for more precision. And do I have to get a Japanese PS2? As is, the prices for importing ESPGaluda are ridiculous, and I don't want to tack on another 150 dollars when I could simply install a mod chip. Getting a mod chip itself might be a risky venture, so I wonder where you guys got yours.

Well, I took the plunge and bought a JPS2 from someone at Shmups forum, myself. And really, ESPGaluda is one of the cheaper ones, along with Daioujou, hahaha. Mushihimesama and Ibara are the expensive PS2 ports. :P

I use a soft mod on my NA PS2--Swap Magic, to be exact. Although I bought it quite a number of years ago, so I'm sure there are newer alternatives out there now. I can't stand using controllers for shmups though, so I never play the damn thing anymore.

My PS2 Slim, which is now on the verge of breaking as I found out when I tried to play Ibara today, was hardware modded.
