Well if you want sprites in particular, look at the ones in stb, the quality varies quite a bit
Do they vary this much?

We don't. The question is: Does Walker mind?

When in doubt, I'd rather use sprites of higher quality, and those of Walker look really good but still look as if I could imitate a similar style if I spend 20x as much time on a sprite as he doas.  :V

I'm no good in danmakufu, actually I barely know a thing, but I have created a character, hopefully it is good enough.





Name: Himawari Shiya

Species: Youkai

Ability: Control over sadness. Can summon sadness in the heart of the people.

Age: Unknown (not more than 100).

Occupation: None

Residence: Most of the time near the Sanzu no Kawa river, but she can be seen around the human villages.

Descripton: A small youkai of 140cm height. Short hair to the shoulders, color deep blue with a pair of  white ribbons which fall to her hips. She always looks like she is going to break/looks weak. She wears a white kimono with golden flowers on it, uses socks and a pair of sandals. She got a collar made of mix of shiny objects she collects; she holds a small oil lantern powered by her youkai powers, it creates a small green flame which  activates her power on any human that gets close to her.

The character was made by me as well as the sprites. The artwork was made by a friend, but I'll eventually make my own (which is kind of pointless since my friend did an excellent job).

i would like it if our goal was to at least try to make a good quality project. There's already a lot of good stuff done and it would be a shame if it all went to waste. I can make the effort, at least on my part (even though i'm not very good with danmakufu or drawing  :derp:).

 Also...is the engine done? i would like to get started on my spellcards but theres no link in the first post (i already made tentative spells without it). A link to the shot sheet and a set of standarized sound effects would be nice too (there are too many SFX in those links...i think a good idea would be to upload a file with the ones the developers are more comfortable with since ZUN sound effects are just a few, like 7 or so, and that helps make the game seem more organized).

Another idea: for spriting, maybe we can ask for help in the art section of the forums? maybe host an art contest? lots of good artists there, and it might be a viable solution to our lack of spriters/cut-ins (although the latter are not the main priority anyways).

I believe the scripts mean just the danmaku patterns... I think we're gonna be fitting the sprites and backgrounds and shots in later.

erm... actually delete the bullets that seem unnessecery (like the peanuts ones and add more) or make two txt. files, with around 100 on both being the same (the normal ones like pellet, round, bubbles and so on) , and the rest being different for each sheet.

I'm also confused if I should still sect the rect as 16x16 or something for the oval-like ones, etc?

Anyways, I think 1 file is enough unless we need more than just  bubbles + ADD bullets (Maybe some inverted bullets...? ???)

Okay, so you've probably noticed that pixels from nearby bullets often get into the bullet you want, right?

I'm trying to change the GraphicRects around (moving left/up a pixel etc) to get rid of them, but this might result in the graphics getting a bit cut off. Just letting you all know.  : /

(tbh The cut off parts are not noticable in most bullets (many bullets don't even have the problem of having weird pixels anyways. :P), it's most noticable in the small round ones, because it doesn't look as round now. :(  )

Edit2 : Oh I just realise this also means I screwed up the 16x16 dimensions on many of them, is that a problem?

Edit3 : Most 32x32 bullets doesn't have this problem because Danielu spaced them far enough. :P
By the way, is there anyone that needs the musical note bullets? I find them really weird shaped for a bullet and its hitbox would be weird. So I'm not including them unless someone needs it... (I also did not include Peanuts, the 2nd kind of mid-sized bullets, and the star within star ones. Let me know if you need them, otherwise they'll stay not included. :P)

Edit4 : Are the crosses supposed to spin? (Should I set its angular velocity to 0 or 2?)

Edit5 : Not including anchors as well, as someone has mentioned earlier, they're better off made as familiars, besides, they have really vague hitboxes when used as bullets.

Edit6 : I realise I have enough space to include 10 bullet types from my shotsheet.
Well I've chosen Bullets with Outer Ring, Knife, Kunai, Crystal, those with the U shaped thing covering it to include as well as the ADD bullets (Small, medium-size, Bubbles, Straight laser)
Do we need inverted bullets? Neither of us have made any, so is there any specific kinds anyone would be needing?

Edit7 : Okay, I've pretty much finished the shotsheet (all 255 id used).
I still haven't really used the Stb engine, but we have to set the size of the bullets hitbox with camera? Should I include the size of each bullet in the readme.txt (It's radius, right?)?

Edit8 : Why is no one posting anything? Since no one answered my question, I assume size = radius. Since alot of these are oval (arrows, spears, knives, etc) the radius is just something I estimated for your reference.

ANYWAYS, Finished typing up the shotdata! Hurray! (No shot replace. :3 )

I think about how can I script each phase of pattern - I never touch StB but I saw that the bullet pattern change harder for each successful photo.

In Blarge's engine, there is a function that checks how many pictures are taken in the given run, so that is not a problem.


Though I wonder, now that a new version of danmakufu is in the works...  :derp:
