Moedan Cominations and Spellcard Guide

Hello and Welcome to my Moedan Combinations and Spellcard Guide!

What is Moedan?

Moedan is a training danmaku that features Flandre and Alice. It's a set of 50 generic spellcards that can be practised on to simulate the concepts of much harder spellcards in the Touhou games. One of the features is that you can combine two spellcards on top of each other.

What's the big deal?

By combining the generic spellcards you can make fun and quick spellcards. It's also good for any danmakufu scripters as it provides tips and ideas for patterns.

Why the guide?

Some spellcards go better with each other, some create wonderfully fun patterns whereas some are plain impossible together.

How do I combine?

Select Free Play and make sure Double Spell is On.

What can I combine?

The green represents stuff that works with each other.
The red represents difficult or impossible, well maybe not for Naut.
Complicators work with complicators.
Bases work with bases but can be hard.
DNS/DNM can be impossible when comined with themselves.

Key
Low - The player is least vulnrable at the bottom of the screen.
Center - The player is least vulnrable in the center of the screen.
All - The player has no desirable placement.
Base - This pattern covers the screen, combining two of these will make a harder pattern.
Complicator - Makes the pattern more complicated but should be used with a base.
DNS - Do not stop, this means the player cannot stay in the same place in general. Using two at once is usually impossible. Use with Base or Complicators for best results.
DNM - Do not move, this means the player is forced to stay in the same place in general. Using two at once or with a DNS is usually impossible. Use with Base for best results.
Stage - Enemies are spawned. Combining two stage types would be interesting.
Boss - Attacks are changed significantly during  the spellcard. Combining two boss types would be interesting.
Streaming - This spellcard heavily relies on streaming.
Spread - This spellcard uses little or no streaming.

Card Guide

All cards were tested individually with pacifist on a 120 second timer.

#1 Low, Complicator, Stage, Streaming Note: Too easy.
#2 Low, DNM, Streaming Note: Starts very easy, in later stages allows for almost no movement.
#3 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: Too easy.
#4 Low, Base, Spread Note: Too easy.
#5 Low, Base, Boss, Spread Note: Makes for an easy base, but good for more difficult complicators.
#6 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: Would work well with a more difficult base.
#7 Center, Complicator, Spread Note: Works well with other Alls and DNSs.
#8 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: Very simple streaming.
#9 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: Heavy streaming.
#10 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: Similar to #9 but with less and larger bullets.
#11 Low, DNM, Boss, Spread Note: Somewhat difficult. Combining this would be hard.
#12 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: A nice complicator.
#13 Low, Base, Spread Note: Perhaps too easy.
#14 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: Too easy.
#15 Center, Base, Spread Note: Only really effective if being in the center is less desirable.
#16 Low, DNS, Spread Note: A DNS of sorts, though only really at one stage. Otherwise a Base.
#17 Low, DNS, Streaming Note: A lovely DNS, homing missile effect.
#18 Low, DNS/DNM, Streaming Note: Starts off like Rumia's lasers (DNS) and and then becomes a laser trap (DNM). Strange.
#19 Center, Base Note: Bullets from the bottom and the top.
#20 Low, DNM, Spread Note: Creates a slow barrage of bullets.
#21 Low, Base, Spread Note: Very fast bullets, but not too much of a pain.
#22 Low, Base, Boss, Spread Note: Makes for a good base.
#23 Low, Base, Spread Note: Like #20 but more extreme, if the player is made to go further up the screen this becomes Lunatic calibur.
#24 Low, Base, Stage, Streaming Note: A UFO like stage attack. Difficult to time out.
#25 Low, Base, Stage, Streaming Note: A good stage like attack.
#26 Low, Base, Boss Note: Alice boss fight, quite easy.
#27 Low, DNS, Spread Note: A really good DNS with a suprisingly tricky end.
#28 Low, Base, Spread Note: A good base.
#29 Low, Base, Spread Note: Falling danmaku.
#30 Low, Base/DNS, Streaming Note: A base and DNS together, but both are easy.
#31 Low, Base/DNS, Streaming Note: Pretty much the same as #30 but without randomisation.
#32 All, DNS Note: Rotary DNS with some extra bullets.
#33 All, DNS, Streaming Note: Goes down then across, like missiles. Later stages rotate twice.
#34 Low, Complicator, Spread Note: A simple complicator.
#35 Low, Base, Spread Note: A good base.
#36 Low, Complicator, Spread Note: Just a fast spread, nothing special.
#37 All, Base, Stage, Streaming Note: Fairly hard decending enemies.
#38 Low, Base, Streaming Note: Difficult towards the end, heavy streaming.
#39 Low, Base, Stage, Streaming Note: Extra-like stage attack, though not as hard.
#40 Low, Base, Stage, Spread Note: Huge amount of slow and tight bullets.
#41 Low, Complicator, Spread Note: Tewi-like snake bullets.
#42 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: Encourages the play to be still, but apart from that it's too easy.
#43 Low, Complicator, Streaming Note: A good complicator.
#44 All, DNS, Spread Note: Starts like #32 but with lasers, later is unique.
#45 Low, Base, Spread Note: A spread with nice coverage.
#46 Low, Base, Boss, Spread Note: Keine-like spellcard.
#47 Low, Base, Spread Note: Keine-like spellcard.
#48 All, DNS, Spread Note: A stylish rotary DNS.
#49 All, DNS, Spread Note: Circular maze DNS.
#50 Low, Complicator, Spread Note: Flandre's reflecting bullets.

Not bad, I think I'll give a few of these a go. I'd always enjoyed doing double spellcards when I played this. Lots of fun!
