Generally, this is classified as a Cooperative MMO Bullet Hell Shooter
You choose a character/class, fight monsters to gain xp (and eventually fame & fortune), battle bosses together, and reach up to the titular Mad God.
Enemies have certain patterns and how to fight them is the basis of the Bullet Hell Shooter.
Each Class has a different weapon/armor (segregated via tiers) and skill use (1 skill per class type), making choices simple yet versatile. You can be a wizard with powerful splash bomb attack, a rouge with invisibility, or a warrior with morale boosting ability.
Lastly, when you die, you really die. (Lose character/progress/items, etc), but you gain some in-game currency called fame. You can still make new characters, and you have a bank where you can keep some items just for such case. You can never be too strong in this game, this is all about skill and a bit of luck. A small mistake can cost you a lot here.
All in all, extremely fun game.
