Becoming a Touhou Fan.... How did it happen for you?

So, how did you all get addicted to Touhou?

Me, I watched one of my friends play it in math class. So, I got interested, and started searching up videos of Touhou 8 Extra Mode clear. It made me go O.O lolwut. I really liked the music though, especially Invisible Full Moon (That's probably what turned me into a Reisen fan.) And then... I actually played the game. I sucked pretty bad at first, (IN Stage 3 with 5 lives and slowmode ON) but then I got a lot better (IN Stage 6 with 2 lives and slowmode OFF). Anyhow, afterwards I found the giant fanbase and other games and found myself addicted to Touhou

Like a fair lot of people here (probably, at least to some that I was able to ask), started with the music themselves (not vids, the original songs and some remixes). From there, it caught on and now, I'm into the different fan games and audio circles.

I'd heard some of the tracks on the Youtube, I believe starting around '08, so I believe the songs that caught my ear were Love Coloured Master Spark, or U.N. Owen, or one of those other really popular ones. I looked more into the series and got interested in the characters, but hadn't followed any of the games or fandom at the time. The first game I played was probably IaMP because I like fighters, but I also played PoFV for the competitive nature of it. I can't recall which I played first, but there it is. I started playing the main series games afterward. I believe starting with PCB, then EoSD, then IN. I stuck with those ones for about 2 years, and got use to the mechanics of them. I wasn't following the games, as I mentioned, so under my nose, I hadn't even noticed UFO or GFW get released. I did see that Soku was made, and I picked that up. It is still probably my favourite game in the series.

So I stuck with those games and didn't even touch any main series game post IN. I watched some replays and 1cc runs, but the games didn't interest me. Even today, I still can't get use to the 4.0 power system or fractional lives/bombs, and I still can't 1cc any of the MoF onward games on any difficulty. But, that aside, I did start following the news for TD when it was announced, and then just last year I started looking into the community/fandom. I'm already sick of tsundere Alice.

Yeah, MoF bomb system kind of annoys me, but I can live with it.

Somehow I prefer that to some extent...
