I only do co-op. Not yet confident enough in my skills to take 'em to Ladder.

(...which is weird, as I'm almost always the highest-scoring person on the team.)

I haven't played many matches since the latest ladder reset, but I'm pretty sure I'm still in gold.

Still sorta butthurt about removing carriers and motherships in HotS.

Hard, right now.

You can probably start laddering 1v1 now. Although vs AI (and 1v1 custom AI games) helps greatly in securing the basics (constantly building workers, managing production structures, mastering each race's macro perks), getting down timings (i.e. when the first barracks completes, how long warpgate takes to finish [with or without boosting], when larvae injects complete) and build orders, nothing is better than the ladder to hone those skills.

In addition, people in ladder can and will pull out the works (especially in gold [maybe plat, I haven't gotten there] and below). Things you won't ever see your enemy do in a vs AI game. Cannon rushes. 6-10 pools. Marine+SCV all-ins. Somewhat better players will use more refined, but still unconventional tactics that you won't expect. DTs. Banshees. Mass mutas (like half of every PvZ I play includes mutas, and I still suck at dealing with them). And so much more. The only way to learn how to deal with these is through raw experience, and ladder will give you that.

I think GreenVirus is a pretty cool guy, he makes hot Nue sigs and doesn't afraid of anything.

I used to play, but I went back to BW after a bit. I don't know, I had more fun with BW but hey that's just me.

My brother, on the other hand, is in Master League. If you're in that league and you meet a toss player named "Jack" that might be him.

SC2 ladder stopped being cool after I found out that you could cannon rush your way to masters (yes, I realize leagues do not determine skill).  I think casual/team matches are pretty fun for the most part though.

If you ever manage to round up twelve SC2 players, I suggest you try this map.

I mostly play 2v2s in Gold with a friend as Zerg. Haven't played in a while so I am rusty as hell.

Don't really 1v1 ladder though. A few weeks ago, I played 2 1v1s in Gold, and both opponents were Terrans. First game, I died to a tank push. Second game, I scouted a fast Starport with Tech Lab so here comes the Bancheese. I held it off with basic micro with Queens and Spore Crawlers. It turns out, mass Banshees with some Marines aren't that good against a 3 base Zerg with 21 Mutas and lots of lings. I lost interest in 1v1s after winning that game.

I wish they weren't giving Zerg a burrowed Brood Lord as a new unit in HotS. If anything, I want the Lurker back.

Obviously you can cannon rush your way to masters. But you won't be particularly a good player. Heck, you can 6pool your way to probably diamond. But after that, you'll take a long time to get better at the game. Your macro would probably be absolute garbage.

Some of the most notable examples of high-level cheeser/cheaters are RatzDeezer and CombatEX. Both of them are infamous for doing shit like cannon rushes, proxy gates, and proxy VRs and also for stream sniping and being BM in general. (However, in defense of the latter, Combat has so far stopped sniping and is very analytic in his regular games, though he will still cheese occasionally.)

Lol, CombatEX. Some players can actually cheese well, and play the game well too. I'm just saying most cheesers end up sucking at regular games.

just that one time Destiny trolled the hell out of him oh man

Speaking of cheese, Destiny pulls off some unbelievably stupid crap, and gets away with it, because he's awesome.  I generally don't bother watching replays or streams of games but some of Destiny's stuff gets me on the floor.

There are 5 seasons of this.

There are two problem,s I think, with most cheesers. One is that they assume that either the cheese will win or lose them the game instantly. It's not impossible to recover from a failed cheese, especially if economic damage has been done but not enough to finish off the opponent. Even if little to no damage was done, it's still possible to come back. It's just going to be very difficult to do so. The other is that they commit too much and they keep trying to push when they are obviously behind. They don't know when or how to transition into a normal-ish game or even just throw out the gg and leave.

I think GreenVirus is a pretty cool guy, he makes hot Nue sigs and doesn't afraid of anything.

There's a difference between so-called "cheese" and an all-in strategy.  The majority of cheeses can be transitioned into mid-game play, whereas recovering from an all-in is highly unlikely.  There's a fair number of toss players out there that transition to stargate play from a cannon rush or pylon contain, and usually it works fairly well (by usually, I mean you'd better hope that you stalled his econ long enough for the SG to go up).  It's not unlikely at all to recover from a failed cannon rush or 6/7 pool, although with the latter you need to trade units carefully so that you are more or less even in terms of econ.

To be honest, the term cheese is pretty vague in definition.  I've seen a few times where people apply it to strategies such as 1/1/1 banshees and 2 gate timing pushes.  It feels like a lot of people deem any sort of unorthodox strategy as cheese.

On the note of Destiny, not only does he have brilliant infestor play, but he's also an awesome artist.

Rule of thumb is that most all-ins are cheese, while not all cheese is all-in. As far as I'm concerned, Banshees are made out of 100% quality Edam, but making a Banshee or two most certainly doesn't commit you to winning the game right there and then. On the other hand, a 6-pool needs to win or you're boned. Hence the fast gg.

I get the feeling that this is should be:
"Most cheese are all-ins, while not all all-ins are cheese."
I think all-in strategies are those where the player severely cuts down on his economy to try and win the game, usually with no safe transition if they are held off. By this logic, cheeses are also all-ins, the only separating factor being that they occur very early in the game.

It's mostly a semantic thing based on preference, really. Dark Templar rush can be a valid strategy, or it could be a cheese depending on how you feel that day. Or 1/1/1. Or 7RR. None of these are all-in, but they can definitely feel cheesy.

True. Fast DTs in PvP is usually a cheese (because detection takes so long to get out that by the time it happens the game's already over), but a DT expand is not an unheard of strat in PvZ and PvT, which is then usually followed by chargelot-archon (possibly with storm) and/or blink and then into other things. I agree that most cheeses (looking at you, cannon rushes) aren't inherently all-ins and that classifying them as such depends on how far the users are willing to take them.

After a failed 7RR, you're pretty behind, but if you've done enough damage, it's an alright trade off. Whenever I 7RR (I don't too much anymore), I expand behind it, start morphing my lair, and then begin to build drones. Of course, it depends on how much initial damage I do, and how confident I am in my ability to finish it off. Pretty much, you need to play smart.

Team Master League player here.  Just...not solo.  Have close connections to two ex-grandmasters (MrPandaPants and NamhciR).  ScalgonDelta.713 (AM) if anyone wants to find me.  Was top 200 in the world in 2v2 arranged at one point last season.

Although I have to admit - I've had a really bad start (and season) in Season 5.  Season 4 was way better compared to this current season, since I had a 24-win streak at one point.  I'll be willing to teach some people here if anyone needs it.  If Terran...you're probably out of luck.  I play Zerg in team...and Protoss in solo.

So, we got a masters at something for MoTK ^^. xD, I'm going to be playing a High School Starcraft League game tommorow 2v2, and my partner is top rank 1 masters as protoss, was GM last season, with me as a gold zerg. This is versus a 2v2 team that consists of a bronze and silver 1v1 players. Quite honestly, my partner doesn't even need me.

Yes, we do. :D  Sadly, my solo skill is like plat-level, but whatever.  What's the username of your partner, if you don't mind me asking?

As for your matchup, I'm pretty sure you both got this.  I've done my fair share of 1v2's before (though a majority of those matches involve my partners disconnecting in the beginning of the match).
