So the other day, I was playing Kaguya Table on Walfas, and then my friend who didn't know what touhou was saw me. He was like O.O what is she doing to the table...

So the point of this thread is basically to post some of your non-touhou fan friend's reactions to Touhou...

Showed a little IN Lunatic to a few mainstream movie aficionado friends.
Them: 'WTF THIS IS JUST LIKE GALAGA. This shit sucks, back to Black Ops.'
Me: 'What are you even saying? Galaga lacks spellcards. :V'
Them: 'You said it was made by one guy?'
Me: 'Yep.'
Them: 'No wonder why it's shit then.'

Showed another closer friend of mine some SWR and MOF.
Him: Nice.

Him: ...:getdown: I'm seriously getting this! This is just TOO good! :V

Hasn't quite gotten into the series yet though.

My older brother sees me playing them every now and again. He usually starts up an argument along the lines of "omg why are you playing these, its the same thing over-and-over..."(Nevermind he always seems to be coming along while i'm playing a particular character, nor does he realize that each game has its differences.) His friends though, do seem generally interested, in some minor way.

My friends who introduced me to Touhou warned me that I was talking about it too much, so I don't show them that much stuff. When I do, one of them (who is interested in getting the games herself) always gets envious because she loses her first continue to stage 3 easy.

I showed someone else the game and he said it looked like a cross between space invaders and a program that you create patterns on. Can't say I blame him.

I remember one time when my and a few of my other friends were having a sleepover and I was playing PCB, I got to Resurrection Butterfly and because I couldn't concentrate I went "SHHH!" The rest of it was something like this:

Friends: *silence*
*complete silence in whole room*
*sound of spellcard starting*
*epic music plays*
They were all silent until about halfway through.
Me: I'm nervous with all this silence...
Friend: We're doing what you told us too, aren't we?
Me: Yeah, but..ah crap I died, on my last life...
*beats game* Yesss! I completed normal with Reimu A!
Friend: Well done! I'm jealous.

(It's not seeing me play the game but I never really go to play it in public and people rarely come over anyways.)

I have a friend who states that "He's the best at every game ever." We both (hopefully) know that isn't true, but one day I made him play Subterranean Animism.

You can turn down the volume on my computer by hitting the FN key right beside the arrow keys, and either left or right.

The game was muted on multiple occasions.

I haven't heard him say that since.

Me: "They're from a series of vertical shooters."

Me: "Oh yea, shmups are great."
Him: "Hey, wanna play some co-op Ikaruga?"

I showed my friends Touhou once. This was after I had already convinced them to play the games at some point, so I guess it was just so they'd see what it was. They basically just said "Yeah it looks like fun" which is a good thing I guess.

I've been openply ~~failing at~~ playing Touhou (From EoSD to Dynamarisa) at school for almost a year now. I'm known as the "Kid who plays hard Japanese games." And the moment I say 'spellcard' people jump to the assumption of Yu-Gi-Oh... It irritates the heck out of me ><'

Among my 'friends' they always just swarm around behind me and just stare in awe of the colourful displays I weave through. Some random strangers call me a hacker when they watch me clear Honest Man's Death, I really don't know how to explain it to them :V

My closer 'friend' knows about it and is taking it in pretty well, he's starting to remember the names of characters/spellcards.

My closest friend mostly dislikes it, but not to the point where he hates everything about it (I pointed out that our school song sounds JUST LIKE Kaguya's theme and after listening to it I got a "Sounds good" out of him). So it's kind of a "Do what you want, just keep it away from me." thing.

At School I am the president of our Anime Club and guess who just converted like 20 people to touhou? Also i converted my best friend's Girlfriend to touhou and now we just talk abou it non-stop and it annoys him soooo badly! He says he doesnt like touhou and i ask him why and he says he just doesnt like it. (It might have something to do with when hes losing in any game he ragequits.)

Most of my friends I've never mentioned or showed Touhou to.

One moment that sticks out was during my last week of college when one of my classmates asked me about it. I told her a little about it, but we never talked about it again and I haven't seen her since.

A few people in my anime club know about it, the former president's a Lunatic player and quite a few other people have played the games. We had an IaMP tournament one day, I was halfway in the rankings.

Well, I sometimes play Touhou in free periods or recess during class. Most people seem to think I have epic skills or something, even though I'm kinda an average Touhou player. A few don't seem to understand how I can find Touhou fun though, and it hurts some peoples eyes to look at it apparently.

She calls my music "shit" (touhou music) yet "shit" is pretty much the only word people say in her songs.

I played Touhou on my friend's laptop and they were actually quite amazed at my play, since I was playing Hard/Lunatic that time.

"HOW DO YOU FUCKING DODGE THAT", is what they say a lot.

Then they try playing and end up shitting the bed on stage 2 normal mode Parsee.

But from that event, I made 2 people covert to Touhou, just quite a bit.

The real life friends I've showed it to pretty much took notice of it but didn't really care one way or another.

My brother knows a good deal of the characters, is into the arranges and plays soku with me occasionally when we see each other, but that may have to do with me showing him Touhou at a point where I was merely thinking about checking it out due to having stumbled upon a phantasm replay on youtube. :derp:

And then I keep showing him some more stuff, like IOSYS videos and gameplay videos, he gets more and more interested.

Then we open up skype and I start to show him my fight against Mokou, in real time, during her third nonspell I tell him "This is her easiest attack, at least for me."

His answer is pretty much "THAT'S what you call easy?"

He's into Touhou since then, I believe he's already 1cc'ed MoF, IN and EoSD. All on easy, of course, and he's slowly going into Normal.

Honestly, that's part of the reason I did it

Given that the club's responsible for some of the best times I had in college, I don't really regret it.
