As many of you are aware, Typhoon Haiyan has recently ravaged the Philippines. Just like we have with the tsunami and the Haiti earthquake, we are organizing a donation drive in support of the Red Cross and their disaster recovery efforts. We will be collecting donations and directly giving them to the International Red Cross (ICRC). You may send any amount via Dwolla (US only, preferred) or Paypal (International). The addresses are as follows:
- Dwolla: email@example.com
- PayPal: firstname.lastname@example.org
We will be keeping a running tally! Last time we raised over $4k for charity so let’s beat that and show the folks in the Philippines how much we care!
We strive for an open and welcoming environment for all members, which requires respect and cooperation from everyone, for everyone. We all come from many different cultures and walks of life, and we gather here with a shared love for Touhou and the world around it. We want everyone to be comfortable engaging and being a part of this community. We are not looking for reasons to punish people; we are merely looking to keep the peace and to make this a friendly place for everyone. These are not new rules, “be respectful” has always been an unspoken rule we’ve tried to enforce, but in the wake of recent developments, we feel the need to reiterate what “being respectful” means in the context of being here. This is an editorial. While the general views expressed in this are for the most part shared by all of us here at Maidens of the Kaleidoscope, I am strictly speaking for myself in this article. [Editor's note: This is not a discussion about a particular event that happened at AWA but more how to handle gender variant persons and why it is important to do so. Details of that event are of strictly my own feelings at the time, and names have not been mentioned in order to keep discussion focused away from it.]
I’d like to take a break from the revelry over Anime Weekend Atlanta to touch on a subject that I will admit has a very personal touch to me. In this community we have a wide variety of characters and a wide variety of personalities. We cherish and enjoy people from all walks of life. In a fandom so diverse, it’s no surprise that there’s a significant number of gender variant folk within our ranks. Read more…
AWA 2013 has come and gone. I’m sure most of you who went are still recovering and those of you who didn’t are waiting with baited breath to live vicariously though us. Safe to say it was a blast, and in the next few days those of us on staff who went will be posting up our con write ups as well as our experiences with ZUN and with the fandom at large.
As you’re probably all very aware of, Anime Weekend Atlanta 2013 is rapidly approaching. ZUN is obviously the star of the show for us here at MotK and I’ve been approved to represent us as a member of the press at AWA. As part of the press proceedings for ZUN’s visit is the special press only interview session with him, and as such I’d like to get a field of questions from you guys, the community, to potentially ask and have him answer.
This is your chance guys! Submit your questions here and I will select a handful of them to ask ZUN himself during our interview session. The more unique and thought provoking the better. So come one and come all! I will have a list of the winning questions selecting in about 2 weeks or so, right before the convention.
I got the okay to publicize the Touhou schedule, so here it comes! Keep in mind that these are technically subject to change, but this should be solid enough. I’ll keep everyone updated with any changes, as well as any insider ZUN information I’m allowed to give out. Here goes!
Did you thought being a Touhou fan was all about playing the official games or fan-made games from Japan? You might be slightly wrong. Our forum community has a wide support and knowledge base for creating your own touhou games, mainly using Danmakufu an engine for making your own boss fights. Over the years, with the hell of various people from the community of MotK, we have been creating a large and vast knowledge base for newcomers who want to script their own fanmade touhou games.
Thanks to community suggestion, a 10th contest has been summoned being a milestone and unique event. Our last official contest was approximated 2 years ago. Now that has been quite the time, hasn’t it? Because this contest is unique we decided to involve real life prizes as well! Have you been lurking in the shadows and are knowledgeable with Danmakufu? Why not reveal yourself and join the spell card battle among the programmers, questing for the spotlight and a place on the podium.
Even if you’re not a programmer, why not browse Rika & Nitori’s section? You will find a large variety of fan-made scripts, boss fights and rare full fan-made games like the famous Concealed the Conclusion game. Perhaps you can provide useful feedback and constructive criticism to our learning scripters to help improve their work.
Hey guys! It’s Mint, your AWA Touhou guy, with some important announcements concerning Anime Weekend Atlanta 2013 and ZUN’s descent upon our fair convention. I hope you guys are going to be there, because it’s going to be an exciting time!

Yes, you’ve read that correctly. Some were expecting it, some weren’t.
